Many of you may already use this service however I thought I would share this as I find it such a great free service.
http://www.google.com/alerts?q=&hl=en
This service allows you to be emailed as soon as a predetermined phrase (think company name) appears in the google archives or news service.
It is fantatsic if you want to keep on top of companies and what press is been written about them.
Its amazing how quick it works. Within minutes of news articles being posted on websites you get an email alert.

Does it cover NZ and Aussie shares?
And does it recognise Stock ticker codes ?
If it does , do you have to add .AX or .NZ ?
eg For Oxiana Rsources would you order up
Oxiana Resources OXR.AX ?
It sounds a pretty good alert system to me and i will give it a go
Thanks

It covers anything....
Let say you are interested in "global warming"... Set this up as the alert and you will be emailed as soon as any news articles on "global warming" are indexed by Google.
It probably won't recognise ticker codes as they don't tend to be in news articles. Best to set the alert on the company name (or perhaps the industry?)
Sometimes this means you can get false alerts but they are easily handled. Companies such as "Telecom" will produce heaps of false alerts as you will be bombarded with every Telecom story on the net. Restricting the paramters to "Telecom New Zealand" will give you much more restricted subset however you may miss stories where the text only mentions Telecom.
Setting up an alert on "Oxiana" is likely to give you great results.
What is surprising is how quick google picks up news articles. I guess their news service subscibes to RSS feeds so they pick up articles almost as soon as they are published.
Its a great service....

The Google News Alerts service is pretty cool, but as David says, it has limits.

BM is right - Get firefox and replace Internet Explorer today.
Its a far superior web browser. Much quicker to load pages, has tabbed browsing, more secure and has some great extentions.
Tabbed browsing is a big plus for traders. It allows you to easily move between web pages very quickly.
