Have removed most of my funds from them and gone to AOT in Australia.
This was mainly for the better execution but also got sick of ASB's slow site and execution. Also don't like their new colors on the morning business program at 6.30 - why they changed up and down from green and red to white and black is a mystery but probably the same people who designed their web site. Their plus is the ease of margin borrowing and the lowest brokerage in NZ at 24.95 - if they changed it to one charge per contract note but up to six trades with the same stock in the day like AOT and improved their site and execution, it would be almost tempting.

yep... their site was down but is up again now. ASB is a joke when it comes to reliability.

Well I'm getting a little tired of ASB's response times and lagging data feed. I guess that they're aware of their unsatisfactory performance (c/w others anyway.)
Whats Nat Bank like? I don't care too much about the fees as long as they're competent and timely.

...and Access Brokerage's web site is quite fast :)
wish someone could re-brand that site and make it available.
Yes Access web site was very good unusual for one operated by an Australian company

That's it for me.
I've been a customer for 10 years.
They were asked to buy 5000 nog at 106 limit, when the depth showed 5127. Hey I don't mind that I missed the bargain, but they bought me the dregs of 127 shares.
These have cost me effectively 129 cents.
The net purchase seems to lack sense.
Tonight I clocked out before i can see my porfolio and watlist - so slow.
I have closed my margin lending and am moving away from ASB, but where?
I need to change. Any suggestions guys?
disappointing to see asb still havnt fixed their site-i had a problem initially but used their 0800 number to complain and they did the trade for me immediately.
Im using them solely for the security of a bank
have done many subsequent trades satisfactory
I hope everyone is complaining to asb and suggesting they buy the equivalent of the access software
i dont want to change again
Fish have you got shares in CBA if so complain as a shareholder to the top brass

Every time you ask for a live quote it costs the ASB a small fee to obtain this data, they tell me. So they give you so many live credits (I think for each trade). This stops you burning through their profits by costing them more in fees to the NSX than they make from your trades.
If you phone them and ask politely they generally will let you have more live credit gratis. However if you keep burning through them without trading....

Pointy.................any ideas on which broker? Being an ex Access client I'm heading for a major bank but it looks like ASB can be a pain dealing with the website. ASB also require you to be a NZ resident, not that I could see a bank bothering to check. Next best I could see was the National Bank but I had a relative swing into a branch with a fat cheque to enquire about opening an account (have to have a bank account to open an on line trading account) to be told I had to personally come by otherwise no dice. That's an impossibility right now. Any one else got a bright idea?
I now use ASB and Direct...
Direct seems the better of the two, but after having been burnt by Access, I cant bring myself to do all my trading through them.
Direct provides more details on their depth screen, which I find very useful, and they also better tracking of your own trades.
they do need to have a live watchlist though (like ASB), as its a pain to have to click on each share individually.
ASB is somewhat slower and the user interface is illogical in places. (too many clicks to get where you want to go).
when you put in an order, sometimes you wonder whats going on, so i usually flick through to direct to see it show up in the depth.
partially traded orders are a pain to keep track of.
a couple of weeks ago, I did three or four trades, hardly checked depth, but i ran out of credits for the first time, so I had to phone in to get more. I think i was allocated a number of credits at the start, and no matter how many trades you do, this is not increased unless you phone them. This is a complete waste of time, and should all be done automagically.
oh, and the recent outages at ASB are unacceptable.
Flying Mariner Direct is the answer Dorchester Call account is a BNZ account with NZ perpetual trustees controlling it.

I have found Direct good - especially if you have a query. One problem is that if you haven't done any trading for 3 months they block you out of the market depth info. [xx(]

ENIGMA.............. I received the Direct solicitation after Access fell over but considered it might be wise to not go with a broker unaffiliated with a major bank however from what I've read most here seem to be comfortable with the call account arrangement they operate. It is certainly a whole lot easier to open a Direct account than approaching a bank.

I hope ASB are listening! :(
Flying Mariner I had no choice would have taken months and cost lots of money and time to go with NBNZ and allready had the run around from ASB parent company CBA in australia Ended up trading the australian market through access brokerage in NZ from Australia. Much more efficient and cheaper. Asked ASB about trading through them got sent an application pack 2 years out of date. But very happy with Direct after they sent me details for direct crediting to their call acount. Recieved a BNZ bank account number and account name NZ Perpetual Trustees--Dorchester Call Account. So you get a major bank and a Trustee Company

I happen to know quite a bit about their call account and can say that it is safer than depositing money into a bank account? Why you may ask, well the funds are owned by NZ Permanent Trustees, and are diversified amongst 5 banks, max of 30% in one bank, thus giving the client near maximum protection.
I use both Direct and ASB. When I sell shares with the intention on buying with the proceeds I use Direct - this gives me another 3 months access to market depth. If selling and not intending to buy soon I use ASB (as I bank with them and it makes transferring funds much easier). If the ASB web site is playing up I use Direct then ph Direct a couple of days later and they direct credit the money to my ASB account.
Direct's web site is IMO much better than ASBs. One thing to watch if using ASB - keep individual trades to a maximum of $30,000 or they'll sting you! (ie if your trade goes over $30K by one cent their fees more or less treble!!). With Direct's new fee structure the amount of the trade effectively doesn't alter the fee percentage for NZ trades but you still need to watch the Australian trades if exceeding AUD$25,000, as the fees on the portion over $25K goes up threefold.

Currently with ASB only because I can tsfr $ between c/card, Trading a/c and "chq" a/c. Sluggish response gives me the jitters so the Direct Broking applctn lays completed at my elbow waiting for the next ASB dissatisfaction.:(

Mmmm - I still cannot see my portfolio screen at ASB securities.
Is this just a problem with my account or are others having problems too? If a couple of people here could let me know if theirs is working or not it will help me guage the shrillness of my next complaint to them:D!
Thanks in advance
