ok looks like finally a ray of sunshine going to hit me...I been offered a job in Brisbane. It is 8k (AU) more than what I get paid in NZ.

Only thing I am worried is working with Australians.

I don't think you'll find it too much different over here, there's already zillions of Kiwis based in Brisbane/Gold Coast region. None that I know would ever consider going back to NZ to live.

Just make sure you get a place with air-con.

Yeah, I went there once, but its a cultural desert apart from half an hour of the news in French on TV each day.
Your vowels will lengthen until you are barely comprehensible and clearly unfit to read the news on TV, your reading age will drop imperceptibly at first but accelerating, your IQ score on Tickle will fade, skin cancer will set in and all your friends and relatives will be secretly ashamed of you, although to your face they'll congratulate you and say you are doing the "right thing" - in the same way that Rommel was given a revolver no doubt...
It may be time for Muldoon's quote - Migrants from NZ to Australia raise the average IQ level of both countries.
Except for one or two obvious exceptions such as a certain rugby league player....

Its tough living in Brisbane, especially in winter time when its usually about 20 degrees day in, day out. Oh well, someone has to do it. [:p]

MVT - did you lose your left eye or your right eye? ;)

Yeah, but its better living in Nouméa in the winter than Brisbane.
It's warmer, the weather is better regulated (surrounded by sea unlike Queensland), you have the longest coral reef in the world (no, not Great Barrier reef), you have a higher standard of living, better restaurants,
culture galore, spectacular views (Nouméa is on a hilly peninsula), a higher IQ/much better education system - most of Nouméa's population are emigrés/retirees from France and expatriate Kiwis/Aussies including a number from Queensland I bumped into). You can get a good apartment with
spectacular views for about $500,000.
Why settle for crummy old Queensland? Ignorance is the only excuse.

Work? A life?

I don't think Pimpit is old enough or senile enough or bigoted enough rich enough or French enough to want to settle in Noumea.

Pimpit, well done on getting the offer. Take the job!

Nice work Pimpit, take the job for sure.

I moved from Akld to Sydney for a job opportunity eight years ago....one of the best decisions I have ever made

be warned though, once you make the move across, you'll most likely never want to return!!

How about giving up working all together?

That's what I'm working towards - 2 more years.

Dear old stick-in-the-mud monocultural simple minded Kiwis.
Offer them something sophisticated and better and they insist on the rubbish dump.
How do explain the Kiwi's and Aussies who have settled in Nouméa? How do you explain the Kiwis and Aussies who have settled in Europe?
Queensland is for the also-rans, those without imagination who never look at a world map, read overseas newspapers and mags (by overseas I mean outside NZ and Oz). Is Queensland the only place in the world with sunshine? Open your eyes to an amazingly big and diverse and exciting world where Aussie Rules and League are unheard of and a meal is more than fish and chips and VB.
One complains justly of Americans who are unaware of anywhere outside the US. Now there's another breed who are unaware of anything outside NZ and Oz. Their idea of social climbing is to go from Wainuiomata to Porirua to Redfern. Sad, really.

What a load of pretentious rubbish from someone who has only visited once and whose highlight was the 1/2 hour of French TV per day.

There are far more Europeans living in Australia than Australians living in Europe. Why? Because living where the culture is supposedly superior could not compensate for the lure of a better overall lifestyle.

Good work Pimpit. I too have made this move. Plenty of oppotunities across the ditch, and those who work hard get rewarded while those whom are lazy get what they deserve. Heaps of foreigners over here and your likely to find more poms, south africans, chinese and kiwis in your new office than Ozzies.

"There are far more Europeans living in Australia than Australians living in Europe."
That's a statement of quantity, not quality. Heaps of Italians and Turks and Greeks who migrated out of the shambles of Post War Europe.
Similarly there are Dutch for example who moved to NZ after WW2.
The interesting point is that they would have had a much higher standard of living if they had stayed. Ironic and sad.
Anyone read "Almost French" by Sarah Turnbull? Quite a good and amusing read. Its in English by the way. Sarah Turnbull is an Australian woman who was on a working holiday in Europe, met a Frenchman and has settled in France. It would open your eyes somewhat.

Says who??

three of the top five richest Australians ( Lowy, Pratt and Triguhoff ) all arrived in Australia from post WW2 Europe....

almost without fail these post WW2 European immigrants, as with the majority of other immigrants to Australia, have absolutely embraced all the opportunites and lifestyle that Australia offers

The worst case of quantity not quality were the smelly French. Bunch of pretentious garlic eating nuke loving sheep burning Muslim baiting bigoted twats. They never stop complaining either. Deport the lot of them back to France I say.

There is a very simple reason NZers migrate to OZ (apart from the higher wages, warmer weather, commomn language and closeness to home).

It is so easy to get a work visa - even if you have no special skills.

One in three French 'are racist'

Riots in 2005 were linked to anger at alleged racial discrimination
One third of French people say they are at least somewhat racist, an opinion poll suggests.
The figure shows an eight percentage point rise in those who said they were racist in a similar poll last year.

The survey of 1,011 people was carried out by the CSA polling institute for the National Consultative Commission for Human Rights.

The commission said the poll pointed to socio-economic unease and suggested racism is gaining acceptability.

France last year saw weeks of rioting in impoverished suburbs that was partly linked to the anger many youths from immigrant families felt at alleged racial discrimination.

The survey was conducted in late November 2005 - just after the riots had subsided.

'Drop in crime'

Respondents were given five options for describing their personal stance on race, ranging from "somewhat racist" and "a bit racist" to "not racist at all" and "don't want to say".

More than three in every 10 said they were "a bit racist" or "somewhat racist".

Only 32% of people said they would notify police of racist behaviour they witnessed, compared to 50% in the previous year.

"Despite the efforts deployed to fight racism, anti-Semitism and xenophobia there is still a long way to go," the president of the commission, Joel Thoraval, said.

According to the report, anti-racist sentiment has grown weaker since last year.

However, the report noted that the number of racist and anti-Semitic crimes had also fallen in 2005.

France's justice minister, Pascal Clement, said last week that the number of convictions for racist and anti-Semitic crimes had risen 43% in 2005.

Noumea ha[s] the longest coral reef in the world (no, not Great Barrier reef)

Ignorance is the only excuse.

Do you deliberate litter your rantings for mistakes just to give me something to do in my spring holidays?

Checking MTV's ravings for mistakes is rapidly become my new hobby. I have just spent the last half hour reading all about coral reefs -most interesting it was too.

It took all of 5 minutes to discover that MTV's latest claim that "Noumea ha[s] the longest coral reef in the world" is garbage as per usual.

From Wikipedia...

"The Great Barrier Reef is the world's largest coral reef. The reef is located off the coast of Queensland in north-east Australia. It stretches over 2000 kilometres in length and can be seen from space."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Barrier_Reef

From worldwildlife.org...

Fish diversity is high in the New Caledonia Barrier Reef ecoregion. At least 1,000 species have been documented on this reef, which is the second longest barrier reef in the world (after Australia's Great Barrier Reef), reaching a length of over 900 miles (1,500 km).

http://www.worldwildlife.org/wildworld/profiles/g200/g221.html

On to the list it goes along with the "African Language" one.

BB, you misfired there - "Nouméa controlled by cheese eating surrender monkeys". New Caledonia elects its own local government.
In WW2 New Caledonia did not surrender to anyone and was the first place in the world to rally to the Cross of Lorraine, General Charles de Gaulle.
It sent a contingent of troops to fight in the Middle East against Rommel etc and distinguished itself in combat. There are WW2 memorials in NC, there are streets named after the Desrt War battles.
At Bourail, halfway up NC on the western side, there is an NZ WW2 war cemetery, a gift of land for that purpose from a French settler.
I think you owe an apology to the New Caledonians for that insult and I think you should be man enough to make it.

P.S. Bravey: you really are getting very pedantic, pathetic and tiresome: I quote what I read. There is a coral reef which totally encircles NC, a long thin island the size of Belgium. It is locally claimed to be the longest coral reef in the world. Possibly the Queensland reef is the longest in a straight line. Just the same as the Philippines claims it is the 2nd largest English speaking contry in the world. And at no point did I ever claim that there was one African language, you must be having another wet dream. The african language used in the quite well known story about the difficulties of establishing democracy in Africa. Try some hot cocoa before you go to bed tonight. I could probably name more African languages than you and certainly more African couintries and capitals.
