It appears we have a new index made up of twenty plus companies listed on the NZAX and NZSX who are the bees knees of bleeding edge technology. This pdf (http://www.nzx.com/nzxmarket/indices/scitech_brochure.pdf) and this announcement (http://stocknessmonster.com/news-item?S=NZX&E=NZSE&N=131322) list the current members.
Must admit that I never thought of FPH as a biotechnology company to be mentioned in the same section as those greats, BLT and GEN.
Just need to wait for the index fund now.

Isn't it cool? Can't wait until someone actually tries putting a fund together based on this one... given the free float on some of those stocks, it could be quite a mover![8D]
(Personally, very taken with the idea of finding FIN on there - last I looked just $35k could buy you a mention in the annual report on the top 20 shareholder list).

Another rubbish index from the NZX [}:)]
How convenient that it lists the same day as Rakon [}:)]

Now NZX is looking at cornering a commodity market, a la ENRON!
Weldon sees NZ as centre for carbon trading in region (http://www.nzherald.co.nz/section/3/story.cfm?c_id=3&objectid=10424417)
NZX chief executive Mark Weldon sees a future for New Zealand, and his exchange in particular, as the centre for carbon trading in the Asia-Pacific region.
Although trading at the moment is largely over the counter, with dealers marrying up buyers and sellers, Weldon is convinced exchange-based trading is the way of the future and that a continuous global carbon market will evolve with one dominant marketplace in each time zone.

I'm not sure what that has to do with enron, personally I like the idea of NZ becomming a key player in carbon trading, like currency we are the first to start trading so there could be some impetus.
Though with under-developed capital markets, how likely it is that we could pull such a move off remains to be seen. Irrespective I support it all the way.

Perhaps I am being a bit cynical, but Enron did try to expand by creating trading platforms for commodities such as electricity, bandwidth etc.
It just strikes me as funny that NZX is giving thought to providing a trading platform for carbon credits when they are still trying to validate the AX market as a booming success

Slight difference though. NZX is an trading platform (for shares ad debt) and would only be a middleman.
