Dear stockmarket friends,

You may have forgotten to defragment your hard drive. In my case, not for at least 12 months. Defragmenting your hard drive does 2 things;

1) Improves drive response time (lower seek, fewer latency delays)
2) Conserves the life of your hard drive.

In my case, I have 2 computers dedicated to the stock market. The one I am posting from now is purely for internet surfing. Both computers have a firewall and uptodate anti-virus software. The other computer is always offline (hardware firewall). It is the horsepower that does 95% of the real work.

This computer was defragged within only 30 minutes. The work horse computer is still defragmenting after 1.5 hours, and only 57% complete. It must have been well and truly overworked.

Defragmenting instructions;

One can defragment in standard windows, but some programs in startup may well interfere with the process. Therefore suggestion is to shut down windows and start your computer in "safe mode".

1) Shut down your computer.
2) Start your computer and at the same time press the F8 key once every half second until a menu comes up with the option to start in safe mode (option 3). Select this option.
3) Go into programs, accessories, system tools, disk defragmenter.
4) Defrag one drive at a time until finished.
5) Shut down and restart the normal way.

Cheers.
