Signs Heads of Agreement for Establishment of
Australian Energy Retailer
Microview Limited (“MVL”) is pleased to announce the signing of a Heads of
Agreement with Cobra Group Pty Ltd (“Cobra”) for the establishment of a joint venture
to be known as Australian Power and Gas Pty Ltd (“APG”) as a new entrant in the
growing Australian retail energy sector.
Brief Background to Australian Energy Market
Up to $7 billion of electricity is traded annually to meet the demand of almost eight
million end-use consumers in the South and Eastern Seaboard states of Australia.
Victoria accounts for almost half this figure while NSW delivers 30% and SA and Qld
responsible for the remaining 20%.
Deregulation in the Australian retail energy market has presented an opportunity to
rapidly create value from the residential retail energy sector especially given customer
switching in all three contestable markets (VIC, NSW and SA) have been higher than
originally anticipated. This is expected to replicate itself when the Qld market opens in
2007.
