Gir ... YES but with much caution! Stops in place... concern on break below $1.08 remain alert at all times, a pos buy for investors who have a volatility allowance and following short trends
GNM ... No buy! ...if holding high alert...to lock in gains... look for any break below $1.55... peak currently looking peaked... stoploss min $1.45 imo.... indications hint towards a pos short second rally...generally bullish but a test stop loss. could be in place at $1.45 ... if pos...look to take profit on highs. if not be wise with volitile charts.use fast indicators. weighted moving averages

mmm, I was actually tempted to buying some AQD tomorrow if it stayed above 35c given that resistance seems to be thinning, hoping it would go into blue sky territory on the back of high trading volume the other day... will keep an eye on how the price unfolds in the coming days.
What about the other stocks?
CFE
RAU
MAK
FSE
COK
RWD

Agree - CUO, PSA and PEM are PRODUCERS, not spec plays, yet they have been thrashed far more than what the fundamentals imply.
You've just confirmed what I thought - but I needed a second opinion!
Am waiting for some consolidation and good volumes to flush through...

Tommy do you really trade these hot potato shares, those you mentioned were pretty hot,hot 2 touch...
My cup of tea...not that I drink tea... I'd rather drink bourbon and whiskey...whats your means of locking in profit,
What triggers do you use? whats your strategy? from start to finish?
I know you like bio techs?
I'm not saying that that your listed shares won't go high , just that the probability of them coming down much lower is.... High..
Volatility is real good if one can manage it, the current market is testing my limits, so far so good.
AA
Hi AA,
Since the US subprime turmoil started to unfold, I have sold all my small cap shares that were fundamentally sound but got punished due to lack of liquidity in order to lock in profits (stop-loss function kicked in!!) and switched to trading high risk, speculative resources stocks purely based on momentum (reading trends/volumes in charts).
So far the strategy has worked for me, I love trading predictable MAK/MAKO in particular. My last trade was RAUO last Friday, which turned out to be pretty good too (although I may have sold out too early, RAU is in trading halt now).
My focus is on increasing trading volume translating into MACD upswing, preferably in hot potash/iron ore sectors that are high in demand. Options preferred rather than heads due to leverage, giving good bang for buck exposure to the stock!
My strategy is to start locking in profits as soon as I make +20% gain and topping up on any weakness (-20%) on the back of All Ords nosediving triggered by DOW meltdown. I know 20% gain is peanuts for many high profile traders here but hey, if I can make that in a few days or weeks, it still helps pay the bills for me so I am quite happy with that in the current climate :-)
I try not to hold any stocks over the weekend (much safer to buy back on Monday than holding on over the weekend because US sentiment can topple confidence in Australian share market easily).
Once market stability is restored, I will revert to my conventional investing (buy and hold) method but for the time being, it seems to be much easier making money by exploiting volatility by momentum trading, although risks are much higher if you decide to HOLD rather than SELL/LOCK IN profits without getting too greedy.
Note: I hold NONE of the stocks mentioned, but they are on my watchlist for this week due to their potential for quickie gains. As for biotechs, the time is not ripe yet...

Oh, and another one on my watchlist:
STB
How is this? Another "SELL" recommendation????? It is downtrending now, but may be worth picking up at lows although capital raising might be imminent... high risk!!!!
absolut-advance
07-04-2008, 03:23 AM
STB is another heavy break out company, Both the directional movement index and DM+ is trending down now on this one after the breakout, (dy9)volatility is pretty extreme to rely on indicators.... ----------------------? DMI crossed above DM+ and trending down?
burst over?
looks to me this break out is over? or close to it? sorry tommy, Hope you prove me wrong, I think It will break below 20c on monday, being a monday may do sky high after weekend mulling... who knows not me...
these stocks are too volatile for me to predict ... couldn't give seal of approval for that reason

I do rely on candle sticks a lot, although they should not be relied upon for low trading volumes due to ease of manipulating low-volume stocks.
For me, RSI is indicative only to a certain degree by itself and needs to be read in context with trading volume, MACD and DMI, so I tend to ignore it... at the end of the day, I am a terribile chart reader so I don't think I have a systemized strategy at all :-P
My "gut feeling" is more like intuition based on experience/knowledge, rather than blind out-of-the-blue premonition.
I prefer fundamental-analysis-based investing though.
