I asked this in a thread in the NZX section but as the ASX is where I like to play ( mostly ) and nobody answered I thought I would pose the question here.

To those who are not bystanders are you poised with your finger on the sell button each day or have we all decided the danger has gone and its back to bull.

Me, I have grafted the index finger on my left hand to the sell button. It hurts a little but the pain is a constant reminder that it could all turn to custard tomorrow :D

I went from 70% invested to 95% invested today. Last night was interesting, in that we had some more bad news on the subprime front and it seemed like it was going to cause a sell-off, but the Dow touched 12800 and then rebounded from a bad start to close positive.

But yes, running tight stops. I am only going for high probability plays at the moment though.

50% in da sharemarket, but willing to pull out any time if the sky falls in da US :-P

This subprime fiasco is not over yet... and All Ords has not yet decoupled from the DOW. I would avoid financial sector until the mess is cleared up.

I'm at 40% of my share limit. Only STX, AGS, & a third of my original ADY holding on the ASX. There is more bad news to come. The actions taken by governments to temporarily alleviate the problems will make things even worse in the medium term.

40% cash
did some bargain buying in small caps...... but they still go lower

also buying some small oilers

wont move to 100% invested until we back over 6,000 .....or the bear ends with a massive capitulation

I've been taking profit now and then...I'm one of those generation Y needing cash to buy their first over-valued NZ home soon :(.

Mostly just hold free carried oil, gas, coking coal, iron ore companies now...have not taken profit on gold explorers/producers just yet.

Holding the profits in AUD, just in case.

Any largish corrections or pull backs I might rotate cash back in again, if NZ houses are still too high..

I dipped my toes in yesterday. The water temperature was quite favourable so may look at getting in a little deeper today.

But I have decided to keep the shoreline clearly in sight in case I have to make a quick dash for dry land again.

I feel a bit left out when sitting watching everyone else enjoying the fun and games so decided to join in too.... :D

100% in and putting more in as funds allow.

Switching now to longer term prospects (12 to 24 months), so less worried about short term fluctuations. Will look at more BRT and IBA today.

The ASX is more interesting than a savings account.

I have been getting set in Aussie oilers and miners in the last few months or so. Long on Aussie play! Still only invested a small amount of the total cash I have in the bank. This market still concerns me. The high oil and commodity prices will hit the global economy hard if it continues to climb.

the high oil prices are a function of the US dollar slumping IMO.
its pretty much halved in 18 months. so oil is not at record highs in AUD terms.

Aussie market seems to have taken on a mind of its own last few days , small caps powering ahead , not before time.
Strong against kiwi dollar too , helping the outperformance

Ive really lucked out over the last month but still not buying any long term plays that dont come with a short term plan built in. Lets face it the Yanks are living in some sort of fantasy regarding their domestic situation and it has to end in tears sooner or later. If nothing else this year, Ive learned short term trading suites me best. If you wana see how well I do at picking longs just take a look at how Im doin in Sec's ASX competition :o
