I've found a distinct lack of applications (stock tickers in short), that will work with the New Zealand or Australian share markets. I use some of the online sites but I'm looking for an application that I can run on the desktop. Idealy that communicates with NZX realtime.

Is anyone aware of a free NZX stock ticker?

funny you should ask that, because I noticed today that the front page of http:\\www.nzx.com seems to have a ticker at the top.
I dont know if this is delayed or not (but I suspect its probably 20 minutes?)

you can reach it directly at http://www.nzx.com/ticker/tickerdata.html
and resize it manually or write some javascript to open it in a small window.

It's not a stock ticker but Yahoo Messenger displays 20 minute delayed data and updates itself automatically. You have to set up a watchlist of candidates to display though. As I normally operate a heavily concentrated portfolio this suits me fine.

Risk, noticed that a couple of days ago, it's quite useful :)

That's essentially what I'm after but in an application.

Not able to find one that works on the NZX I've decided to write my own. The fundamentals work, it scans the NZX All indexs page, picks out the stock code, and the bid, offer, move, etc. I've now got this scrolling and the next step is to implement a watchlist so it only displays the stocks I'm interested in.

You see I'm after something I can run at work in the system tray which will notify me when a specific stock reaches a pre determined high/low. This is much more passive then bringing up a web browser every 30 or so minutes, but just as effective.

I have plans to include a feature that will download the news or at least link to it from a specific stock too.

If anyone's interested I can make it available when complete.

Due to work conditions I've been unable to make the rapid progress with this project as I had first anticipated. However for those that are interested I've included a screen shot of the app in it's current stage...

It's fairly easy to see what's going on here, blue highlighted stocks are in my dummy portfolio and blue are on my watchlist. Using the list box on the left hand side you can choose to view just those stocks in the selected index from the NZX.

Scrolling the table to the right will reveal all the details you see when viewing a particular stock on the NZX.

The bottom of course is still a work in progress, but you'll note the stock symbols and price that is part of the ticker along the bottom.

If anyone has any suggestions that would improve the app I'm very interested in hearing what feedback you might have.

Can I ask what you are using to create this application?

TIA

If anyone is interested, Iguana2.com provide a product called stockscape which has a live ticker with a variety of other stock specific data avaialble. The only problem is you need to pay for it. The beauty about the ticker is that it shows trades as they arrive as on an NZX Faster trading screen. So if nothing happens, irrelevant data does not tick by.

Its bloody interesting to see it on the open, I can tell you that.

NZX.com provides this but I think the cost is around $1000 a month.

Smeagol, you will get it a lot cheaper through Iguana.

Last I heard, (a year or so ago) it was still $36 per month.

Not bad considering what you get for it.

Much easier to buy an application that does this for you. I use TradeTrakker, it's low cost shareware that can access a number of international exchanges in real time (20 minute delay).

TRENDY: Is it usable for NZX or ASX

Oldrider.
I use TradeTrakker as well.

One small problem is that it has not updated to the NZX50 and the NZSE40 does not show now that Mr Weldon has retired it.:)

I emailed them and they said it will be fixed in the next update, don't know when that is though as one only came out a few months or so ago.
The ticker bar can show the indexes you have selected as well as the option to show the stocks you have in your portfolio of Aus and NZ shares, but as trendy said ,with a 20 minute delay.
The ticker bar sits at the top of the screen (always on top, no matter what programme you are using. as long as the Tradetrakker is still open.

I've just downloaded Tradetrakker after reading this thread. It looks great and I'll probably pay for it (US$19.95) after the 30 day free period.
Thanks for the recommendation!
