Don't know how indicative this is of the overall situation but Oxiana announced last Friday that their Golden Grove mine, which had been affected, was " now sourcing power on the spot market and began restoring operations to full production this afternoon."

When I saw footage of the explosion on telly, my immediate thought was 'if we were at war, one well placed bomb would almost be a knock out blow to our industry in the west. The Navy patrols the North West Shelf, to safeguard the rigs from attack, but you could do considerable damage without resporting to suicide boats etc.

Moving away from such doom and gloom scenarios....

1. May be an increase in some of the spot prices in some commodities, such as Ni.

2. Government will look at increasing the duplication / redundency of essential infrastructure.

3. Looks for renewed impetus in securing domestic (WA) gas supplies from somewhere other than the NWS. Maybe Perth / Officer basins will be in focus more. Probably good for ARQ.

4. Thinking more laterally, someone might look to CSG....WA does have coal after all (eg Wesfarmers Premier Mine). The Premier Mine is one of 37 mines that have operated in the Collie Basin since coal was discovered in 1883. Not sure of its suitability for CGS production.

there might be some labour available to work in the surat basin...
