CSR has been constantly falling now to its lowest level for 5 years why what is going wrong with this commodity stock when sugar as a commidity is rising and at present highs???

Basically it is a building company once owning Rinker in the US but still with big building material property development and aluminium interests and so exposed to the downturn in the building market. Also it is a sugar processor and this may be hit by rising input costs without the ability to fully pass them on.

Although mature Sugar is probably the more attractive business right now. The building / construction / property related fields (including finance) are neither pretty sectors nor low enough to be attractive.

As Kookaburra points out, the problem is that CSR as a refiner is not benefitting from the price of sugar as such but is merely receiving a refiner's toll, much the same as NZ Refining is with oil.

One thing this company does is make glass, lots of it. It's estimated double glazing homes/buildings would cut greenhouse gases in OZ by 30%. This is the sort of BIG picture greenhouse response that would appeal to Kevin 07. It's a response that's being seriously discussed. CSR have no local competitors of note.

Bad day today after the AGM ..... 14% and below 200

Painted a pretty bright picture .... earnings likely to be up but obviously punters dont believe what was said and take fright of words like 'Leading indicators for Australian housing starts weaker than three months ago. NZ already recorded substantial falls' .....

.......but the future has 'Substantial underlying demand for dwellings continues to build in
Australia, unlikely to be reflected in housing starts this YE'

Just need for these house to be built ... osmetime ..... and then CSR might be a good investment .... and the bosses are frustrated at the price as well

Just read the annual report and have put this on my watchlist.
Might be a good buy at aome point , result dosent look too disturbing from a long term perspective.

The current exchange rate beyween NZ and OZ is putting me off buying any ozzie stoocks at present

I've been watching for a while and think it is definitely worth a spot on the watchlist... :)

CSR share price...$1.40 here we come.

IPL trading today at less than their greatly discounted placement price of $2.50. NAB also got under its placement price of $20.00.

Don't like the sound of that HC as I am a CSR holder.

I think it might open at $1.55 though. Just remember that IPL went ex-dividend of nearly 20 cents per share today. Although you are correct with NAB and I am a dissapointing NAB holder as well. Won't be subscribing for NAB SPP but on-market, they look good between $18 and $19.

Bought in today at $1.405. Rudd stimulus package should help their building materials division. A big winner should be CSR's Bradford's insulation business, which should pick up a nice chunk of the $3b the Government plans to pump into roof insulation.
