cantab, where could one view Dimebag's ASX (& NZX) portfolio? I have read a number of his posts with interest being a buffett fan myself but have only seen DPC mentioned in any of his recent posts. Thanks in advance.

Dimebag's portfolio (please add):
ATR
OTI
ION
Gosh, is this the beginning of an DMB10 index? :)

Hi Quartspurple
I currently hold positions in the below ASX companies (ranked in the order of my preference, based on various factors):
Astron (ATR)
Oriential Technologies (OTI)
Credit Corp (CCP)
City Pacific (CIY)
Alliance Finance (AFC)
Fantastic Furniture (FAN)
Ion (ION)
I generally look for companies in their early to mid stages of development that are conservatively priced relative to their potential.
Also worth a look are (which I do not hold):
Flight Centre (FLT)
ARB Corporation (ARP)
SDI Corp (SDI)
Harvey Norman (HVN)
Canberra Investment (CNB)
These are all good long-term growth stocks but are more mature and/or more fully priced than my current holdings, which is why I don't currently hold them myself.
The exception in CNB which is still a young company but I don't hold currently as I saw better value elsewhere, and the impending property downturn is liable to impact short-term results. Still a good long-term stock in my view.
Cheers

Dimebag, many thanks for your post. Out of interest do you still hold anything in NZ?
With over 1,000 stocks to choose from in Aus what do you select or search on first in order to reduce it to a more managable number to investigate further? And how is this done using your own database, public website, charting package etc. Sometimes I find it very easy to become overwelmed by the huge choice of investments out there and all the information thats available. Currently working on a set of critieria to use for all my investments, then will have to find a way to search using the critieria.

I still own some DPC, but that's all.
There are some other stocks I quite like, like TUA, FTB, EBO, RYM, RPL, MHI, HBY, but I feel most of them offer inferior prospective returns than those listed above based on current prospects adn pricing.
Regarding how I screen stocks, I don't use any type of database. I simply go through stocks on a case by case basis. ie I look at stocks one at a time.
I mostly get my leads from stock forums, friends, and some news items. I'll then look at any stocks that seem interesting one by one.
This may seem somewhat inefficient, but I have quite clear criteria which I look for in a stock so I can discard most stocks pretty quickly.
Over time you come across more and more of the stocks and uncover more and more stocks you like and build up something of a list.
But I certainly couldn't state with absolute assurance that those ones listed above would be my most preferred stocks if I had looked through every single company on the ASX. It is very likely there are many promising opportunities I have overlooked or are unaware of.

Hi Dimebag
Any particular software you use for ratio analysis? Or good old Excel?
I noticed that a few minutes after your disclosure of interest, OTI and AFC shot up. Coincidence?
Cheers

Good idea Cantab.
I'd be very interested in tracking Dimebag's extreme value and investment leader (DEVIL) fund :D
Especially once he starts working for a living in the investing community [:p];)

Cantab, agree good idea!
You could call it the "DB Retire by 30" Fund (DBRB30).
Since it is virtually all ASX stocks would it be better to put it on the ASX site?

Great time to invest in ASX-;)-uptrending gold&silver price-402usd
-strong crude oil price
-rising nickel price
-favoured exchange rates for NZers
- for my ASX portfolio -i,ve invested likewise to bullish world trends-
-TTR-25.5c-now-30c nickel/gold
-OGD-70c gold
-WZA-25.5 oversold -21c huge resource base and exploration potential
gold/also significant nickel discovery;)
-MMN-15c-13.5 silver/gold
-LKO-4.5c oil
-BPT-27c-oil
-OSH-119-now 130 oil
holding long term-;)
OXR a good bet I feel now the price of Gold is finally looking like shifting upwards. They are now a big gold and copper producer with interests in a few different areas and well established resources. They were only about 25c a year or two ago but had a high of about 1.10 and look like good value around the current price of 85 cents.
Interesting because they made the move from a smallish and not very well known company into being a mid to large worldwide miner who are often mentioned.
ps. I have lots of them at average of 77 cents not counting earlier profit taking so my view could be slanted and/or overly optimistic
Cheers,

DPC is my biggest holding in NZ by some way, followed by PWC - both have been kind to me.
I wholeheartedly agree that the ASX is proving a more fruitful hunting ground for those of us seeking underpriced shares in small, growing, profitable companies with established track-records.

A question to fellow investors who invest in ASX. What news paper do you suggest prospective investors to read? Australian Financial Review?
thanks

I read the AFR and SMH but to be honest the best calls I've come across and profited well from are right here on our own ASX channel from the likes of dimebag, kd, cantab, halebop and alban.
I also quite like the new Oz sharechat site sharescene - see -
http://www.sharescene.com
It provides good discussion on resource & bio-tech companies & macro factors, as well as a really good tutorial section.
