Hiya Vince.

I've just discovered the joys of RSS feeds.

Yes, I know I'm a couple of years behind the rest of the class.

I'd love to see some RSS feeds on the Sharetrader site... maybe for each thread... like my favourite Direct Broking thread? ;)

Alice,

Christmas is just around the corner, - always nice to have a few extra bottles of Red Wine to enjoy this time of year! ;)

I'll give you a call regarding the RSS.

Cheers,
Vince

So is this forum going to get RSS feeds?

Better still, would someone be able to give an easy to understand overview for the illiterate?

Try starting with something like this:

Thanks for that. So it's basically like receiving notification whenever something is updated on the website?

That is pretty much it. The bonus is that you can see what you have not looked at, and it is very easy to track many websites with it.

As a sharetrader I find it brilliant for keeping track of lot of different news sites. Instead of going to 20+ sites, I just look for the items I am interested in and go straight to them.

If you follow 20+ sites and only one has updated today, you can just look at that one. Saves you from going to 19+ other sites and finding out nothing has changed there.

Is RSS similar to Twitter then?

Not exactly. Twitter only shows what is on twitter. RSS can be from any site on the net.

Admin, Please could you turn this on. It is only a config setting on your existing server software (vBulletin).
Please see:
http://www.itamer.com/vbulletins-inbuilt-rss-feeds/248/
or
http://theos.in/internet/howto-add-vbulletin-rss-feed/

Apparently the admin could do this:

First of all log in to the Admin Control Panel. You’ll see on the left hand menu that right at the top there is “vBulletin Options”. Click on that and then on the options choice and it’ll show this panel. Scroll right down to the bottom and look for External Data Provider and select that. Click on Edit Settings.

Once that window is open you have a number of choices.

At a minimum you need the RSS feed checked. Personally I see no harm in having all 3 checked.
