View Full Version : Wellington Meeting - 12 June, 4pm, 3C Bar
Lizard
20-05-2010, 08:23 PM
I have decided to start a new thread for this meeting, as it can get difficult to find the details for these events when buried in the middle of a long thread.
Intrigued by the apparent invisibility of Wellingtonians, a cohort of South Islanders (aided by the ever-roaming Oiler and at least one brave Aucklander) have come together to spark an event worth leaving the keyboard for. Although we already have sufficient numbers for a pleasant social gathering, we'd like to see it get a little bigger - the more ShareTraders that turn up to put faces to their names, the more benefit for all those who choose to attend.
Details are as follows:
Date: 12 June 2010
Time: 4pm onwards - possibly till late, since we have out-of-towners to entertain
Place: 3C Bar (http://www.3cbar.co.nz/), Upstairs.
3C Bar is on the cnr of Chews Lane and Victoria St. There is some street parking available in the vicinity (I think it is still free on a Saturday), or a few parking buildings around. Alternatively, it is still possible to walk from the railway station (perhaps 10-15 mins).
We have booked the upstairs area and aim to have it set-up to encourage a mix and mingle atmosphere. Stairs are at the right-hand end of the bar when you enter. There is a list of yummy Function Platters on their web-site and we aim to combine forces to provide a few for nibbles (Any willing sponsors??!)
We would like a reasonable idea of numbers, although casual arrivals still welcome!
So far, attendees include:
Probables / Confirmed:
Jaa
Oiler (International)
Serpie (ChCh)
AJ (ChCh)
Lizard
Corporate
Mr Needs
Cannibal
Toulouse Luzern
Mccollr
STRAT (Akld)
Lakeys
Possibles:
Upside Umop (ChCh)
Please help us out by posting on the thread if you intend to come and aren't on the above list (or PM me if you're shy) - it would be good to get enough numbers to get the whole upstairs bar area to ourselves.
For anyone nervous at the idea of coming, I can assure you from past experience that ShareTrader members are a pretty diverse bunch - all kinds of ages, stages, wealth, race and gender - but with a common interest in the Markets. The conversation level usually gets pretty frenetic. Coming along can also add a different perspective on the forum. Just do it. :t_up:

Oiler and Serpie,
What time is your flight home on Sunday and where will you be staying? Would be nice to do similar and stay in the same place. Im sure Oiler knows which Hotel would be best.
Liz, Im up for a platter or two. I usually have to drive home from these things. Guess I can get plastered this time if the mood leans in that direction:eek2:

I'm flying in on Friday morning and doing some work before heading up to Otaki for a feed and a few Canadian Clubs with my father in law. Staying up there for the night.
Back in to Wellington on Saturday, picking up AJ from the airport at 3pm, dropping off the car and heading to the meeting. Haven't booked a hotel yet so I'm open to suggestions.
Flying out at 10.30am Sunday.
Strat + plastered = scary.

STRAT, I am staying at the Holiday Inn, Featherston St. and have a flight back around 11 oclock. Will be an interesting meeting given the market we are in.
LIZ it looks like we will be pigging out on platters :eek2: GREAT selection of food.
Good to see some new faces and as Liz says we really are friendly bunch who look to have some relaxed informative chats.

I'll book in there too then.
If Oiler is staying then the Presidential Suite will be taken, so we'll just go for a rack room.

 LOL, Serpie market is down, so no Presidential suite for Oiler unless the "good check in people" feel sorry for me and give me an up grade.... I doubt it !!
Looks like we are going to have a good turn out. :D
Good work Lizard.

I'll try make it, I might have to get a Saturday flight in early afternoon, because I opted to fill in for some work that day (about a month back!) and forgot about it. Almost booked flights for Friday, so that was close. I'll find whether I can still make it and let you guys know.

Thanks for the invite. :)

Here's my excuse. I have a disability (MS) and that can make getting around a bit challenging. Not impossible though. Could you put me down as a keen maybe?

Hi wbosher,
Hope you can make it - my second turned up 4 weeks early (and before the midwife could get there), so I can understand the reticence! However, don't sweat the cash - remind me when you arrive and I will promise to buy your first drink!
Glendoonie - PM me if you want some help with transport and will see what we can organise.

Hope to see you there Glendoonie.

Have confirmed arrangements with the bar and they will have set up for us upstairs at 4pm.
Based on the list below, I've ordered 3 function platters for 5pm onwards. If we need more than that, we can order antipasto or cheeseboard from the bar menu.
Might be a good time to bring along any investing textbooks you'd like to swap too?

The Wellington meeting is looking it is going to be the "National Convention" winner. My fellow Amigo Shrewd Crude along with Serpie made all sorts of prognostications a couple of years back that it would be Christchurch, as the winner. Nahhhhh Shrewdie, looks like Wellington is going to pull it off.
All those Wellingtom closet viewers, come along. We talk about shares, yes but we also talk a lot of other crap after a few social drinks. The one to watch is my good friend STRAT. He plays a mean geetar and signs like a tui.
Looking forward to seeing you all in Wellington on Sat. night.
