The NZSX share price tables are no longer being shown on Teletext. I found this by far the quickest and most convenient way of tracking prices and I would check it every day and several times a day. I'm surprised there has been no reaction here from others. What do you use to keep regular track of price movements?

Why not have a watchlist with an online broker? Was a user of teletext myself years ago but internet technology made teletext obsolete.

I don't want a watchlist. I want to see the whole market.
". . .internet technology has made teletext obsolete" You must be joking. In this instance teletext wins hands down.
to friedegg: I'm talking about movements through the day, not finding out next morning.

I am sorry you are missing out on your daily movements. You are not alone.Winston may be able to get it back on for you as I am sure a lot of his supporters in the foreign owned rest homes are also great teletext users.
They also have the whole market. But what do I care.

What about this: http://www.nzx.com/markets/all-securities. Does that meet your needs?

I agree with this ^ if you don't want to use a watchlist (I prefer a watchlist as there's just a lot of companies out there that don't interest me in the slightest)...
If you're slightly techo you can download an addon for your web browser that will auto-refresh that NZX (or any) page every x minutes

Another option is to install a share watching widget on your computers main screen if your running vista or above... this is possibly what trackers was refering too
or, get an iphone
NZX is good for an overall view of todays happenings.. click the link http://www.nzx.com/markets/all-securities for all the securities listed (about 200 of them). Only problem is that stupid not necessary 20 minute delay ...still there even when registered.
As a client of DB I use my online portfolio and watchlists to get up to the second prices and current depth.....+ refresh button
Well, I know my dear old Mum without a computer will miss the share info on teletext.
I wonder why they pulled it? Can't cost much, it's already set up, it's an automatic feed from NZX, you'd think.
Maybe the brokers want us to visit their own websites more often.
Or maybe they are really trying to kill equity investment by small traders.
I think I'll contact their webmaster@tvnz.co.nz to say I'd like it back.
I suggest others do the same too, altho I'm too cynical to think it will make any difference.

Thanks, Lion. I'll contacct webmaster as well, for what it's worth.
Thanks for other comments but I still say that for this particular purpose switching on to Teletext is a heck of a lot quicker and more convenient than logging on to nzx.com, Direct Broking, Sharechat or whatever. So does that make me some sort of Luddite?
Percy: My daily movements are just fine, thank you.

Each to their own, as it boils down to lifestyle and personal preferences. You'll find most people spend a lot of time on their computers, so opening up an NZX portfolio is only a single click away (I stay automatically logged in and have a shortcut button directly under the URL bar). I also use an iPhone app and some quick links for checking stuff on the go.
I can imagine that if you got used to using teletext for information then losing this could be quite inconvenient. My guess is that it was part of a cost-cutting exercise. I'd take it as an opportunity to investigate other (possibly better) alternatives and decide for yourself whether or not you are, in fact, a Luddite :).

Use stockness monster - has all the NZX & ASX announcements, price quotes, trading stats, simple chart etc - all free

Well, I know my dear old Mum without a computer will miss the share info on teletext. Get your mum an iPad. Add a quick link button to the relevant page and she wont be able to stop telling all her friends about this amazing interweb thingy.

Thank you I did not know about that link.Handy to see the whole market rather than just my watch list.
I got a nice email back from TVNZ saying this service was "run at a very high cost". NZX charge for the rights and IRESS charged to deliver it. There's no way they are going to re-instate it.
Does anyone have other ideas for those who don't have a computer? There used to be a free phone service in Christchurch about 10 years ago. Not sure if that's still going. You punched in a code for each top 50 company.
There was a small article about the loss of Teletext quotes in the printed Herald, but I can't find it on-line.

CNBC channel 95 on Sky TV. Ticker-tape across the bottom of the screen most of the day.

Yes, but I think it only shows a few NZX stocks - maybe the top 15. Shows a lot more from ASX.
I look at CNBC first thing every morning to check on Wall St. (An amazing turn-round this morning, by the way. From a low of 160 the Dow finished the day at, from memory, minus 24.) Also enjoy some of the chat about US markets, esp. from Maria, though some of the guys are too excitable, high-pressured and over the top.
To go back to the start of this thread, I'm now reconciled to using nzx.com All Securities but it's still less convenient than Teletext because unlike a lot of others I don't spend most of my day sitting in front of a computer screen. Anyway, I've enjoyed the chat.

Hmmm, well I use both the Internet and teletext and I have to say using teletext was far easier (how long does it take to fire the TV up compared to firing up the computer? that's no contest! TV wins hands down!)
And I'm not just talking about the shares I'm also talking about the news - International, National, Business and Sports!
Have a look at teletext in Australia and that's no contest also, Oz teletext is just a pathetic apology compared to NZ's.
The only thing I won't miss when teletext goes is the desperate and hysterical continual left wing and Greenie slant e.g.
Socialists Win Spanish Election! when the Socialists lost heaps of seats and barely remained the single largest Party in Spain. Or Merkel will lose German election when a rogue poll 2 days before the election showed the Social Democrats had gained a few per cent although still well behind the Christian Democrats.
With convergent technology I think the people who assume that a PC is automatically superior to TV or mobile phones have a bit of waking up to do to get themselves up to date. Besides, what would you rather watch a good movie on - surround big screens at the cinema, your TV in a comfortable armchair, or hunched up over your PC's little screen with restricted sound system?
I'd rather bring my PC to the TV than the TV to the PC!
Who turns their computer off? Just checked and mine has been running for 83 days.

TV's already come with access to youtube access etc built in but I dont think they have full internet browsers.

My old laptop has been running for 10 years - apart from when I'm out of town. I occasionally shut the lid which switches off the monitor.

Well ..this old dog Hoop learn't a new trick today:) ...it took a few hours though as very few people know so had to learn it all from scratch with the help from google.:(
What I did was ...Downloaded PS3Media server (http://ps3mediaserver.org/forum/) program onto my computer and now my computer + the USB attached 1 TB external hard drive "talks" to my PS3 and Samsung TV via my wireless internet modem/router home network.:) (Apparently works with the Xbox as well, so I'm told)
....still learning its huge and I suspect endless potential..
I've just scraped the surface today and so far... I've found out that...
..my PS3 has access to 1Terrabyte of memory via the external hard drive.
...A click of the source button (DLNA) on my Samsung TV remote and some streaming
internet TV programs I had on my computer is available....some problems with format issues
... record from my TV via router onto the same 1TB external drive....some problems with file format issues ....
Still figuring out the vast amount of other applications but what I have learn't today is ....marvelous:D.
So...Why isn't this available technology common knowledge to the masses?? probably because of the false belief that you can only get it with new TVs. In reality very limited built in applications exist in TV's so far such as Utube. The exciting feature in New TV's is the facility enabling it to network to other appliances. This is the media holy grail and I think with time this will become a definite threat to the "big boys"... Telecoms TIVO and soon I suspect it will be a SKY. As SKY has a monopoly in NZ this new media technology must be good news to SKY subscribers as SKY will have to "up its game" and compete once the masses become aware of this streaming media potential. Some more info here
(http://www.avforums.com/forums/ps3-media-streaming/1102004-ps3-media-guide.html) People with old TV's??? no problem if they have a computer + broad band internet + PS3 attached.
