So the Victorian State election has just been held resulting in a 6.7% swing against Labour.
There are 88 seats and no Independents or Greens so the party winning 45 seats is the winner.
After last night's vote count the Coalition (Liberals plus Nationals) held 44 seats according to the media, the ABC computer, election analysts and was ahead in the 45th seat and generally held to be going to win it.
Up prances Brumby, No, I'm not conceding, its definitely a hung Parliament, he says, we didn't lose the election, I did nothing wrong, weasel weasel weasel.
So, to clarify matters the Victorian Election Commission put on overtime today (Sunday) to establish which way the 45th seat goes so that everyone knows where they are without hanging around painfully for ages like the Federal result.
As expected the 45th seat goes to the Coalition.
Brumby's reaction? No, I'm not conceding, there's thousands of postal votes to count for the other seats, its definitely a hung Parliament, I've done nothing wrong, Labour is the caretaker Government, minority Government, we'll persuade a Coalition MP to defect, we'll ask the National Party to govern with us instead of the Liberals - weasel weasel weasel.
The media are pointing out that even senior Labour Party strategists are saying he's only delaying the inevitable and should concede gracefully (at which point he would be up for a leadership challenge no doubt heh heh).
Other points of interest, the Coalition parties asked their voters to give their preferences to Labour ahead of the Greens. Good move - it's totally frozen the Greens out of the Victorian Parliament!
Next up for slaughter; the NSW Labour Government in an election early next year expected to be a landslide to the coalition followed by the Queensland Labour Government ditto!
Why do I like watching Australian elections.... My most keenly anticipated pleasure now is to read Brumby's concession speech in full when it finally comes followed by what he has to say when he's dumped as Victorian Parliamentary Labour leader!
