Does anyone know if there is a web address for the Assn?

What about any thoughts on what they are acheiving?

Here's the URL...

www.nzshareholders.co.nz

I don't really have a view on them though.

1. There's not much money in it for the association
2. I also think that historically the level of shareholder interest in corporate activities, compliance, corp. governance etc have been low.

At times, it seems more of a personal conflict between ICANZ, NZX, auditing / consulting firms.

The assocoation has vigorously persued a number of things that are important to investors. They have obtained results and have made some company officials, contemptuous of shareholders, improve their ways.

In contrast, the new boss of the stock exchange has done comparatively little for ordinary shareholders, except, perhaps, pushing up the price of buying and selling. On the other hand, practically everything he has done has been good for the brokers.

They - mainly from Bruce Sheppard's work - get good publicity.

I think many papers are too lazy to do the kind of diligence and investigation that Shep does and they cop out by reporting his views rather than dong some work themselves.

Thanks for your thoughts, guys. I note that they are primarily a North Island organisation?!

The shareholders assn attacks the biz practices of the big companies, but for some reason its members still invest in them.
We don't need a shareholders association. If you don't like the practices of management, invest in a different company. Quite simple really.

What a load of bollocks >87!!! They don't attack the business of big companies at all but target governence and board / senior management practices that may be benefitting themselves and not share holders.

Your like it or lump it attitude is perverse. Surely it is better to try and improve a mostly good thing?

The assn aint perfect but they highlight a lot of sub-optimal practices.
