    Default Tracking shares

Long time lurker, so firstly thank you for all the information that gets posted here.

I was wondering how you guys track the prices of your shares. A newspaper and pen seams a little antiquated these days. The NZX site always takes me ages to get through. I have been using Yahoo finance for a while, but it does not seem to be very NZ focused and lacks much news.

Today I stumbled across the findata site http://www.findata.co.nz/ it seemed good however the forum was empty which gave me the impression that perhaps people were not using it. I also came across another site http://www.shareprice.co.nz I love the interface but it doesn't seem to have a portfolio tool (although you can bookmark a page of your stocks).

So am I missing something. Perhaps I should go back to my pen and paper, it might be less stressful that way. Anyway, what do you guys use?

For charts I find the following useful:

    http://marketdata.fatprophets.com.au/

Plenty of typed, comparisons, moving averages etc

FOR NZ shares you may need to put the ticker code followed by: .nz

I trade through ASB Securities which has a simple portfolio manager as part of their interface. That might be adequate if you're just trying to track your share prices.

If you have Gmail you can access Google Finance which allows you to enter shares and track progress (or lack thereof...). It also tracks news media which may mention the companies you hold, gives you basic info (Mkt Cap, Ratios), percentage changes. My mine set up in NZ$ so it quotes my ASX shares in A$ then converts of NZ$ when showing gains/losses. You can enter information regarding transaction costs/FX at time of purchase to more closely monitor what your actual paper value is.

Actually you can probably sign up it regardless of whether you have Gmail.

    Default Charting

Even a paid subscription to Incredible Charts is good value for ASX stocks at around NZ$20.00 per month. Doesn't do NZX stocks though.
Although someone recently posted info on getting the NZX data from Yahoo and patching it through to IC

Unfortunately, the data from yahoo is delayed by 2 days most of the time, even up to 3 days sometimes.

have you tried MSN Money. Used to work ok. There is also an excel add-in that you can use to direct access the website via DDE.

Dunno if it still works, but try this link:

Also, not sure if it works with nz stocks. But should think it will be fine.

AMR Something wrong with your Yahoo Link. Yahoo/7 in Australia is best as it shows australian times but NZ Canada & Great Britain all supply 20min delayed quotes of Australian & NZ shares have been using them for 5years.
