I've bought a holding of MNY - reasons;

Low PE and good div + GROWING EPS, fundamentally very sound business and on very undemanding multiples + plenty of cash.
Downtrend broken now in Uptrend.
This businesses has really niche (mainly car lending) and is competitive with other lenders in this category like banks.
Most of MNY's rev and profit comes from secured vehicle loans (approx 60%), while a small proportion come from unsecured personal loans.
The unsecured personal loans are where all the uncertainty is regarding regulation. (cf Cash converters where most of there rev/profit comes from unsecured personal loans - hence more uncertainty and a continued low SP - but one to watch once regulation announcement)
As one well respected person who has now left sharetrader mentioned; tighter regulation will push out small private operators leaving the big guys to pick up more market share, so there is possible growth re personal loans.

What I like - fundamentals, growth, solid long term prospects (unfortunately people will always need loans as not many can save), SP is uptrend.

Risk is regulation changes re personal loans - might take short term hit but long term it could actually gain greater market share.

I've looked into MNY a number of times but can't commit to buying. Mainly due to the industry- payday loans etc just don't sit well with me (morally and risk wise). Having said that, last time I looked they were pretty cheap and therefore an attractive investment if one is happy with the market they are in.

What are others thoughts on the nature of the lending they do? Both morally and from a risk point of view. When the financial world goes pear shaped (When not if IMO) will we see some serious defaulting in their loan book?

I have watched this sector via once holding CCV Cash Convertors.
Yes very serious defaults and changing government requlations,.At one stage MNY had defaults running at or near 25% of lending.
They also stated they do not make anything on a person's first loan.It is on ongoing loans they make their profits.
Compare this with Heartland Bank's "open for business" where they make money from day one.
Yes, people I respect are shareholders of MNY,but I am happy leaving MNY to them.
With me not holding MNY are sure to be a winner..lol.

ps.I do hold rather a lot of HBL and also a fair few TNR in NZ,so I am already "well positioned" in motor vehicle lending sector.

I must admit Percy - I did think - "should I just buy more hbl instead" before I took my position in Mny.

Yes they have an excellent record.
I think MNY presented at Pie presentations earlier this year.
Yet their buying of SDI has left me puzzled.

would be happy with closing at 1.4... break the resistance... just say a 1mil share transaction at 1.35 wondering who's that for..

looks good and i've tried to get in before, one thing bugs me at the moment is how a downturn would affect car loans.

struggling to work out where this is going. fundamentals look good, market spooked by possible bad debts in future?
