Does anybody know anything about where the Apteryx Wealth platform is at? I notice their website (http://apteryxwealth.co.nz) now has a news item label of "Apteryx Launches Investor Direct Trading Portals - Q2 2015". However, there is still little information on this web-site and I haven't found anything in the news.

I like the idea of a single platform for small investors with direct access - i.e. offering purchase and sale of equities, bonds, managed funds (especially some specialist wholesale funds that are more difficult for retail investors to access directly) and term deposits. Apart from ease of access to some products, this has the advantage of consolidated reporting and the ability to easily ring-fence a portfolio from other personal assets. Of course, whether it works comes down to a few aspects like fees, speed, reliability and (crucially) some assurance that ownership of assets is protected should the platform provider become financially stressed.

However, not sure if Apteryx is heading down this path and would be interested to know?

Terrible name - how do you pronounce that?

Doesn't appear as if they are live yet? Or do they only do back end infrastructure for other advisers like : http://www.cleary.co.nz/services/portfolio-design-and-monitoring/

Apteryx - latin name for Kiwi. Used to be Amadeus until about nine months ago, maybe?

I think Apteryx must have a few adviser businesses they supply now from what I can find. However, obviously still early stage and not sure how it stacks up agains the other two established third-party platforms in NZ. Seems to be that NZ is probably under-served in this area c.f. Australia, but small population makes it hard to produce something specific to local tax and compliance legislation.

A platform where investors could transact directly - and more expansive offering than Rabodirect funds platform - could be a perfect solution for some.

Their web site looks like something straight out of the "Fake Startup Generator" http://tiffzhang.com/startup/

Well I guess that's one possibility I didn't consider! :)
