Tax on ETF

Hi all

Just curious here. With ETFs are tax payable on the capital as well? Just thinking if it might be seen as a managed fund. If so when is it paid, is it at the time you withdraw some out - assuming the provider does that on your behalf (like Smartshare NZX).
