I am not commenting on Container Co but the discussion in the linked article about inland ports.

I was chatting to tranport operators in the Canterbury area about Lytteltons inland port at Rolleston. Would they be using it to cut down time and and distance I inquired?

Their answer was "yeah nah". The extra fee charged by the Port Co to use this facility was either equal or greater than their cost of delivering containers directly to the wharf.

So what was the point of the inland terminal I asked? Response, shoulder shrug.
