Tragic news that John Clarke has died.

Brought Fred Dagg to life .....and showed Aussies what real satire is.

John and Murray Ball gone in a month - sad times

Warring my gumboots today

Brilliant comedian. The Games is one of my favourite TV comedies. I will wear my gumboots tomorrow and leave them by the front door.

There is Towel Day for Douglas Adams.

There should be Gumboot Day for John.

Sad day, gone but never forgotten.
I look at all the turmoil in so many places in the world and reflect on this http://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=fred+dagg+if+it+wern%27t&&view=detail&mid=D167A8117B5E6EA20BF2D167A8117B5E6EA20BF2&FORM=VRDGAR

Only 7 comments..shows you what the age demographic is on the forum:confused: Same age as me so feeling a bit fragile....probably not as fragile as John though..hopefully he would have laughed at that. A productive and enjoyable life is what we all aspire too..he over achieved and gave many people lots of laughs as well as moments of introspection. He'll be missed.

Classic kiwi humour and music from Fred Dagg
So if things are looking really bad and you're thinking of giving it away, just remember New Zealand's a cracker and I reckon come what may, if things get appallingly bad and we all get atrociously poor, if we stand in the queue with our hats on - we can borrow a few million more ! We don't know how lucky we are we don't know how lucky we are

I don't remember ever seeing him laugh, or smile even. That dead pan approach was so funny .And humour at no ones expense but an opp to see how irrational and pointless many processes are /were. I didn't always get it ,so it made me think.

Being such a clever man,he could make his humour so simple.
The Games about the Sydney Olympics organising committee was a classic masterpeice.
Bowie, two brother in laws, two of my school librarians, and now Fred Dagg, in just a few months is very hard to take.

My mother served in the war (2NZEF in Italy) with Neva Clarke, John's mother. My mother always said that John got his style of humour from his Mum, she was a delightful person with never a bad word for anyone. Neva wrote a book on her wartime experiences 'An Angel in Gods office', do read it if you can get a copy. She only died two years ago, her obits on Google make for interesting reading, particularly when you think of how John developed over his lifetime.

RIP John, a great loss.

I met Neva briefly 20 odd years ago, I think she was living at Coopers Beach. She featured in the documentary "War Stories Our Mothers Never Told Us" and attended a screening at the Cathay Cinema in Kerikeri. A very strong and resourceful woman.
