Looks like peer to peer real estate mortgages. Basically instead of a bank (unlike when LC get security over a property when it could be a 2nd ranked mortgage, caveat?) so should provide pretty good security.

How do the mortgage interest rates compare to the banks' rates? Or is it borrowers who have been turned down by the banks?
