View Full Version : Noob question: tax implications if I buy an ASX share

I have never directly owned an ASX listed shares before, all my direct shareholdings have been via the NZX and I haven't had to think about tax - those companies have sorted all that out.

We are thinking about getting into one of the ASX listed Vanguard ETF's. Does someone know of a good cheat sheet, or can easily summarize, what this means in terms of tax obligations on us. We're only thinking of investing around 5k so cannot really justify an annual accountants bill for doing our tax returns for such a small investment. Just in case it matters (which I doubt) the fund offers a dividend reinvestment plan.

All help appreciated.

Cheers
