Is it NZ's turn to be the new-age Norway?

Interesting to know what the commercial viability of this would be like - Extracting lithium from renewable geo-thermal sources on paper is a lot more sustainable and cost-effective than current mining methods used worldwide.
I hope they could get intellectual property rights for the methods used to extract the lithium.

Will be watching this company closely going forward.

Went to Argentina last year. Except from an email below for those interested.

Lot of mining up there, including salt and lithium from the salt flats on which Argentinia is placing some big bets. You may be interested in the links, chromatography to recover the Li, new process apparently much cleaner and more economical than traditional evaporation techniques.

Hmmmm...see the links don’t work.
Anyway, they are recovering a Li rich brine from below the salt flats. And are developing a chromatography method to purify the Li. Apparently a lot more ecologically friendly than standard evaporations systems which leave you with a lot of nasties to get rid of. I’ll try and find the documents, they were interesting.

Mercury mentions on page 6 of its 2020 interim report (http://nzx-prod-s7fsd7f98s.s3-website-ap-southeast-2.amazonaws.com/attachments/MCY/348888/317380.pdf):

Another initiative that Mercury looks forward to advancing is our application of geothermal science to the challenge of silica deposition. There is very promising in-house research underway with the potential to reduce geothermal generation maintenance costs, while at the same time reducing geothermal greenhouse gas emissions.
I guess this is Geo40, although they make it sound like it is something Mercuty is doing by itself?

May be worth looking at another constituent of the batteries - - https://www.benchmarkminerals.com/graphite-demand-from-lithium-ion-batteries-to-more-than-treble-in-4-years/ If China is still only supplier RNU on ASX looks to have promise.

Interesting , thanks guys. Re battery increase i have a good exposure to lithium (ORE) but none for medium flake spherical graphite if there is any outside China i havnt seen them but havnt looked very hard.
