When I look at a specific company on the NZX Mainboard, under “Activity” - does “Volume” refer to the number of shares available to purchase or the number that has already changed hands?

While watching the daily market fluctuations I've noticed that for the last few months the NZX50 often changes direction at midday.
i.e. a pronounced downtrend in the morning is reversed in the afternoon, or vice versa.

The NZX will often react to the sentiment of the ASX open at 12 and the Asian markets through the afternoon.
