Thieves disguised as police officers rob tertiary students in Auckland

Armed robbers disguised as police officers have targeted three students in Auckland, taking their personal belongings including cash and car keys.

A police spokesperson said a group of men entered the student’s home in Birkenhead, threatened them and took a number of items on April 13.

University student Ivan, who requested only his first name be used, returned home just after midnight to find his flat turned upside down and his two flatmates fearing for their lives after a confrontation with the fake cops.

“[My flatmate] just told me, we’ve been robbed.

“Three guys... they just knocked on our door and they were wearing all the police uniform, they had [a lot] of gear and they showed my roommates a search warrant,” Ivan said.

Two of the fake officers searched the home while one of the thieves stayed with the students, pretending to question them.”

“They said that somebody said there are some illegal firearms in our home, so they have to search,” Ivan said.

A range of high-value items were stolen, including $15,000 in cash that was supposed to pay for one of the student’s university fees and two airsoft guns.

Watch: West Auckland liquor store owners fight off five weapon-wielding youths after attempted robbery

Owners of a West Auckland liquor store took matters into their own hands today when five youths targeted their store allegedly armed with a bat and pocket knife.

A witness, who wished not to be named, caught the brawl on Henderson Valley Rd on video moments after the young offenders were chased out of the store. She said watching the event unfold was “frightening”.

“We were going to our local liquor store to grab some drinks and then all of a sudden we saw a big group of males punching and huddled up, then we realise it was our local liquor store owners that were fighting off five people with help from the community,” the witness said.

City leaders are demanding urgent action against violent crime in Auckland’s downtown after a group was caught on camera kicking, punching and stomping a person in a busy tourist and commuter area.

Heart of the City chief executive and former mayoral candidate Viv Beck also told the Herald it would be “concerning if longstanding requests” for crime prevention measures weren’t reflected in tomorrow’s Budget.

Deaf Ear approach - Viv - you know from this Govt's Beehive ignoramus in Election Year .. as per previously ;)

The Salvation Army’s State of the Nation 2023 report stated the number of victimisations for violent crime nationwide has increased by 33.4 per cent since 2017.

Meanwhile, retail crime, according to police statistics, has increased by 39 per cent in 2022 compared to 2021. There were 292 retail crime incidents every day in 2022, up from 140 per day in 2018.

Police have previously said some of the increase in reports of retail crime can be attributed to better reporting and recording methods.

Central Auckland has also been hit hard by the spike in ram raids during the past two years. Ram raids have increased nationwide by more than 500 per cent since 2018.

Papakura High School burglaries: Police arrest and charge 18-year-old

An 18-year-old man has been arrested and charged in relation to a series of burglaries at Papakura High School in the past six months.

The man was bailed to appear in the Papakura District Court yesterday.

The Counties Manukau South Tactical Crime Unit had been investigating several burglaries which occurred between December 2022 and May 2023, a police spokesperson said.

Detective Sergeant Allan Nixon said an 18-year-old man was arrested and charged in relation to the burglaries.

“It’s always disappointing when important institutions such as schools are targeted in this way.”

Items stolen included 65 Chromebooks, televisions, tablets, food and phones, Nixon said.

It's disappointing people like yourself have such a poor grasp of basic civics, & must be so frustrating for the police who are doing a tough thankless job, when you criticise the Minister of Police & by association the entire Police force, about Court sentencing issues which they have absolutely zero control over.

The Police can only catch, arrest & charge criminals, then hand them over to the Courts for Judges to decide what to do with them.
Your beef is with the Judicial system & of course as most people know, Judges act independently of the Police or MP's or Ministers who must not influence their sentencing in individual cases.

Suggesting the Minister of Police will issue these culprits a "wet bus ticket" shows a complete lack of understanding of how our judicial system works & is ridiculous. All the police can do is present people who have committed crimes to the Courts & press charges.

I know judges want to keep these young adults out of prison if possible as once they get into that institution they are virtually certain to become career criminals & at some stage they have to be let out back into society.
It's not easy but sometimes if you give people second chances & even 3rd chances like current National MP Sam Uffindale, they are much more likely to turn their life around.

So the #4 Labour Police Minister in 1 year concedes that increases in crimes are not because of more reporting as she asserted to try and divert attention away from what a dismal failure this government has made of law & order in NZ.

But first, this is what the dumb Ginny tried to spin and BS NZers :

That crime isn’t up apparently, it’s just being reported more she says; and we feel safer because there are (almost) 1800 more cops on the beat.

Facts :

"Data analysed by Newshub shows recorded crimes in Auckland lept from 87,971 in the year to March 2022, to almost 110,000 this year.

In Wellington city, they're up from 9800 to 12,290, and in Christchurch city from 25,547 to 35,941."

"Of those arrested, more than half never got to court. Of those who did, barely a third got a sentence … and you wonder why they go back for more. We all know the story about the Government’s approach to prison - that’s why the numbers are down 20 per cent; they’ve been let out, they’ve got ankle bracelets, and the absconding on bracelets is up 90 per cent."

Northland small business owner at wits’ end over theft

A small business owner in Northland is at the end of his tether after falling victim to crime despite closing down a dairy and opening a coffee shop in order to avoid being robbed.

Himanshu Sharma, co-owner of the Columbus Coffee cafe situated in the Mitre 10 building in Porowini Ave, Whangārei, is seriously contemplating shutting up shop and working somewhere as an employee rather than suffering at the hands of criminals.

A cash register in his cafe containing an undisclosed amount of cash was ripped out and taken away just before midnight on Friday together with a number of coffee cards and keys, but no damage was done.

The theft was discovered when a cash sale came through on Saturday morning.

“For five minutes after the discovery, I was pacing between the front counter and the kitchen, not knowing what to do. I had to change the keys and four locks. All up, I lost between $2000 and $3000,” Sharma said.

It’s not the first time he’s suffered losses while running a business.

Convenience stores he ran in central Whangārei prior to opening the Columbus Cafe about three years ago had been targeted on a number of occasions over the past six years.

Sharma said nothing has changed in terms of crime against businesses in these tough times. He employs 12 people.

“How long before I decide it’s better for me to leave the business and work elsewhere? I am close to reaching that point. My main aim of opening up a business was to give locals jobs, rather than get a job. But there’s nothing safe now. If they can steal from a cafe at night, tomorrow they’ll come in and steal during the day.

“Then they’ll go into clothes shops, barbershops, cookie shops.”

The theft is the latest in a string of Northland businesses being targeted by criminals.

‘Despicable behaviour’: Thieves use crane to steal 205-year-old Crimean War cannon from Auckland waterfront

A 205-year-old decommissioned war cannon has been stolen from Auckland’s waterfront by thieves using a crane to lift it onto a truck.

The Crimean War weapon, which has been in Auckland for 163 years and situated at Ōkahu Bay for 71 years, was gifted to New Zealand in the mid-1800s.

CCTV footage shows the cannon being uplifted by a crane at 3.15am on June 1 onto a blue flatbed truck while in storage from Ōrākei Marina near Ōkahu Bay.

Supermarket crime: Pak’nSave staff fitted with bodycams to ‘prevent crime and disorderly behaviour’

Some supermarket workers are wearing body cameras in the fight against the “sad reality” of rising crime.

The technology - used by prison officers and sometimes hospital staff - is being employed by at least one Pak’nSave to deter shoplifters and “manage disorderly behaviour”.

Other supermarkets are considering the move as crime shapes as a major election issue - but bodycams are sparking concerns from privacy watchdogs.

Pak’nSave in Tauranga has started using the technology, with staff being fitted with front-facing cameras “in addition to other security technologies”. A sign at the door of the Cameron Rd store advises customers staff are using the high-tech equipment.

The body-worn cameras are “for the purposes of preventing crime and managing disorderly behaviour”, the sign states.

Emma Wooster, spokeswoman for Foodstuffs, which owns Pak’nSave as well as New World supermarkets, said it was “a sad reality that retail crime is on the rise”.

Three youths steal two vehicles in Auckland and hit another during car chase

Three youths have been arrested after a car chase through Auckland this evening, in which they stole two cars and crashed into another, injuring themselves.

A police spokesperson said the police were first notified of someone driving a stolen vehicle on Beach Rd at 4.25pm today.

The police helicopter was used to track the movements of the car and followed the car to Ruskin St, Parnell.

The offenders then exited the vehicle and stole another car before taking off again towards Broadway, Newmarket. Police attempted to signal the vehicle to stop but it continued on, the spokesperson said.

Police did not attempt to pursue the vehicle with patrol cars due to the dangerous manner in which the car was being driven.

A short time later, the car crashed into another vehicle on Pah Rd, Epsom, causing all three of the offenders to sustain moderate injuries.

The three youths were all taken into custody. Pah Rd was closed for a period following the crash but has since reopened.

So the district police commissioner believes the police handled the Ōpōtiki gang gathering very well and kept the community there ‘safe’.

If safe is closing roads for a short time (2.5 hours is short), we now have an idea of why police now take hours to respond to robberies and crime under this useless Labour government.

If safe is the police supporting school closures to allow the gangs to roam freely in the town, then the answer to crime must surely be for businesses to be closed as the police cannot control the gangs and criminals.

What a damning indictment on were the 4 ministers of police in 1 year (Chris Hipkins to be the fixer after the hapless Poto Williams, remember? ) has allowed law & order to break down in NZ.

Hamilton robbery: Police arrest three youths accused of stealing car, assaulting woman

Police have arrested three youths who allegedly stole a car and assaulted a woman in her Hamilton home.

The trio went into a Newell Rd home in Tamahere just after midnight last Friday to allegedly steal a station wagon parked in the driveway but were soon confronted by the occupant.

Hamilton City area commander Inspector Andrea McBeth said the offenders tried to push their way inside the house, stealing the woman’s handbag.

They assaulted her before fleeing the address.

Whakatāne ram raid: Vape store building structure shifts while $8000 worth of products stolen

Dramatic footage shows three masked thieves ramming their way into a Bay of Plenty vape store before stealing $8000 worth of products.

Boom Vape Shop in Whakatāne has been forced to close temporarily due to the damage caused by the burglary early this morning.

CCTV footage shows a car pulling up to the kerb before getting in position and ramming the shop’s storefront and bollard twice.

The door can be seen falling and the front of the car falls off.

Two masked people jump out of the car while a third person runs in from a car parked on the street.

The mall was evacuated as a precaution, police said.

Meade said a worker activated the alarm after a man entered the store armed with a knife before the fog cannon was activated.

Police are hunting for a woman who threatened shoppers with a hockey stick outside an Auckland supermarket on Sunday afternoon before driving away down the footpath.

Video of the bizarre attack shows the woman striking the click-and-collect entrance at Pukekohe Pak’nSave, while her male accomplice watched, his identity obscured by a balaclava.

Appearing to have different intentions, the man in the video can be seen casually talking to an unrelated person, while the woman frantically runs to a nearby getaway car.

A police spokesperson said the late 90s brown Honda station wagon, is being sought in relation to several retail thefts in Pukekohe.

Attempted iPhone robbery goes wrong after seller pursues thief on foot

An attempted robbery during a Facebook Marketplace meet-up went terribly wrong for one thief after the seller decided to take matters into his own hands.

Auckland resident Joker Lim listed his iPhone on the trading platform before setting a time and place to meet up with who he thought was a legitimate buyer.

During the exchange, Lim said he was asked about a charger, which wasn’t part of the deal.

That’s when things took a turn.

“I say I don’t have a charger when I turn around, he [ran away],” Lim told the Focus. “So I just chased him.

“I didn’t think about the safety or anything. I just run. I [didn’t] want to lose my money.”

Wearing only slippers on his feet, Lim took off on a five-minute foot chase down the road and through a park before catching the robber and taking back his phone.

He started to record his exchange with the man in which he questioned him over his identity and why he had run off.

The offender claimed to be a 17-year-old school student who wanted to steal the iPhone “for his family”.

In the video, he apologised and said he “learned his lesson”, claiming it was the first time he had done anything like it.

Lim filed a police report shortly after the incident, attaching screenshots from the video as evidence.

Christchurch police tell tradies to let robber go after citizen’s arrest

A Christchurch business owner and tradies who performed a citizen’s arrest, tackling a thief to the ground after he allegedly stole motorcycle parts, are disappointed at the police response.

When Mike Creedy stopped to visit the motorcycle store about 3pm Monday, four men were running after an alleged thief. Creedy tackled him to the ground and phoned police.

“The guy was running down the middle of the street with an armload of stuff. I took a couple more steps and stopped him,” Creedy told the Herald.

“He put up a big fight. I just had enough. I put him in a headlock, sort of tripped him backwards and put him on the ground on his back. That was enough for the four guys, one on each arm and one on each leg to actually hold him down,” Creedy said.

“He kept yelling, ‘if the police come I’m going to go back to prison’.”

Whangārei car vandal took photos of young victims after robbing them

A car thief spotted trying to steal vehicles turned on two young teenagers by coming at them with a screwdriver, robbing them of their phones and taking photos of them.

On the afternoon of December 12, 2022, Para Cameron, 21, was in the Spotlight car park on Tarewa Rd in Whangārei where he tried to steal cars using a screwdriver.

He smashed the windows of two Mazdas and one Toyota Wish but was unsuccessful in starting them.

A 14-year-old and a 15-year-old noticed what Cameron was doing and when he realised he had been spotted, he came at them with the screwdriver.

After demanding their cell phones, he managed to unlock the phones and began taking photos of the youngsters as they fled in fear.

Cameron followed them along Lower Tarewa Rd before throwing one of the phones off a bridge and unsuccessfully trying to steal another parked Mazda.

Cameron’s trail of vehicle thefts eventually came to an end after he left his fingerprints on the smashed ignitions of two more cars.

Bay of Plenty jewellers repeatedly targeted by thieves say crime has cost them more than $200k

Jewellers whose two stores have been targeted by thieves eight times in 18 months say crime has cost them more than $200,000 and their sense of safety - but they will not give up on their businesses.

They say the latest attempted break-in at their Te Puke store yesterday was “another kick in the ass”, with “horrific” footage showing a group’s violent attempt to smash through their front window, despite it displaying nothing “worth stealing”.

Rod Pearce and his wife Jannine Pearce, who own Te Puke Jewellers and Rotorua Jewellers, were woken around 3.30am by their security company who said the alarm had been activated by broken glass.

Rod said footage showed a car drive on to the footpath in what he believed was an attempt to ram-raid the store that was stopped by a bollard in the way.

“Four of them laid into the front window with glass-break hammers, full on, and then shoulder charged the window... luckily they didn’t get in,” Rod said.

He said at least four offenders ran off when the store’s alarm went off. The security team saw people flee in a vehicle that was later found dumped on Quarry Rd. They took off in another stolen vehicle. Police confirmed this.

Police hunt set for bail ‘absconding’ Mongols associate arrested in $5.9m Remuera mansion with firearms, warrant to be issued

A warrant for the arrest of a 32-year-old Mongols gang associate will be issued later today for failing to turn up to a sentencing hearing, after being found in a $5.9m Remuera mansion with an assortment of high-powered firearms and ammunition.

The gang associate was due for sentencing at 10am today in Auckland District Court after being convicted of two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of a restricted magazine.

However, the court heard that the gang member’s lawyer, Bridget Lawler, did not know where her client was this morning, despite having messaged them several times.

Judge Debra Bell issued a warrant for the arrest of the gang associate that would take effect at 5pm today. Bell said she wanted to make sure the gang associate was fully aware they were due to appear in court today for sentencing before the warrant took effect.

The Mongols gang associate was found in September 2022 inside a mansion on Shore Rd in the affluent Auckland suburb of Remuera where police found an AR-15 firearm, a rifle, and a shotgun, along with various quantities of ammunition.

Remember that this Labour government promoted the premise, and continues to push the narrative, that criminals are also victims - victims of society, especially the community of ugly, racist, colonial minded and prejudiced entitled pakeha. Hence criminals should be pitied and given a lot of aroha rather than punishment to reform their ways.

Did you know that there was a proposal under consideration to automatically reduce prison sentences for criminals (including substituting home detention for jail sentences) if they are Maoris before the fear of publicity caused this woke government to scrap it last year?

Free Wiki: Judge says young burglar should not stay in jail - home detention imposed

A young man who stole $15,000 worth of clothing from a store, attacked a person with gardening pruners and smashed a windscreen has been released from jail - and put on home detention instead.

The judge who re-sentenced him says that Free Usher Dani Wiki, who was 21 at the time of his most recent offending, is a young and vulnerable man, having regard to his personal background.

High Court Justice Jonathan Eaton said care needed to be taken to reduce the chance of Wiki coming out of prison a “more hardened criminal” than before.

Kidnap victim was forced to dig her own grave during ‘horrific’ three-week ordeal, Nomads gang member hands himself in to police

A woman was allegedly forced to dig her own grave during a “horrific ordeal” spanning three weeks after she was kidnapped from a house on Auckland’s North Shore.

It is also alleged she was repeatedly beaten and it’s believed she was restrained and locked in a car boot for days.

The revelations come as a patched member of the Nomads gang handed himself in to police overnight in connection with the incident.

Carlos Harris appeared in the Waitakere District Court this afternoon charged with kidnapping.

A Community Magistrate said no plea had been entered and Harris would remain in custody until a bail hearing on July 13.

Retail crime: Almost 400 ram raids in six months, judge tells young offender the public have had enough

Ram raids have climbed to an average of more than two a day, prompting an Auckland judge to say the public and the police “are fed up with it”.

Police figures released yesterday show there were at least 388 “ram-raid style events” in a six-month period to the end of May, including 99 which remained unsolved.

During the six-month period, police said there were 218 prosecutions for ram raids, while 86 young people were referred to Police Youth Services.

Last year, police recorded 516 ram raids around the country.

Just a few hours after police released the latest data, a District Court judge in West Auckland told a convicted teenage ram raider; “The public are fed up with it, the police are fed up with it … and people want tougher penalties for this type of crime.”

Auckland police have taken five people into custody following two separate incidents involving stolen vehicles overnight.

A police spokesperson said at around 11pm last night a man and a woman were robbed on Karangahape Rd and four offenders fled in a stolen BMW.

The Police Eagle helicopter observed the vehicle from above along State Highway 16.

“The BMW drove the wrong way down Putiki St in Grey Lynn, before two people jumped out and were taken into custody by Police. The vehicle continued on the motorway before exiting at Lincoln Rd, where road spikes were successfully deployed.”

Police said two offenders then fled on foot before they were taken into custody.

Matariki celebrations in Shannon, Horowhenua, canceled after stolen car ploughs into vehicle, cop injured

A police officer suffered a head injury after a stolen car ploughed into another vehicle right in the middle of a community’s Matariki event.

The driver of a stolen car was spotted by police in Foxton shortly before 12.30pm.

The man evaded road spikes but came a cropper when hitting a number of parked cars. It then collided with a car on Grey Street in the town of Shannon, about 16km from Foxton, in the Horowhenua District.

“He then collided with a stationary vehicle... where community were together at an event celebrating Matariki,” police said.

A young woman pushing a pram was among those who narrowly escaped tragedy when a driver fleeing police in a stolen vehicle barrelled through a residential street, crashing into a parked car as hundreds queued to pick up free hangi for Matariki celebrations in Shannon, Horowhenua, this afternoon.

The driver tried to run from the scene on Grey St but was quickly surrounded by 30 to 50 incensed people from among the crowd of about 300, some kicking and punching him before a policeman driving behind the man ran to the man’s aid, witness Richard Smith said.

“Everybody was really angry with him … he tried to run away, but there were just too many people there and they just grabbed him, and they were really angry and upset.

“It was lucky the cop ran straight in because he was getting a hiding, this young fella, because the community were not happy with what happened. He could have easily killed a lot of people.”

A senior police boss says investigators have all but shelved attempts to solve international scam crimes due to complexities in identifying offshore offenders and their use of “money mules” to mask the trail of stolen cash.

Offshore scammers are estimated to be draining hundreds of millions of dollars from Kiwi victims every year, with cases surging in recent months.

Detective Inspector Chris Barry oversees Auckland City CIB investigations and the police district’s 19-man financial crime unit.

In a blunt admission, Barry said while scams were becoming more innovative and victims were suffering significant financial harm, it was nearly impossible for police to trace funds sent offshore or identify the criminal masterminds due to their remote locations and ability to hide identities online.

No job and no house insurance - burglar learns the hard way about the consequences of crime

A burglar who stole building materials from an orchard learned that crime has consequences the hard way – it ruined his chance of getting a job and he was turned down for house insurance.

Brodie Lewis then went back to court trying to have his conviction overturned, but a judge turned him down.

The High Court at Whanganui was told that Lewis, accompanied by a female associate, drove his Toyota vehicle with a trailer through an open gate onto a commercial kiwifruit orchard on the evening of June 26, 2022, to where a shed was being built.

They took $1520 worth of building materials and drove away.

The pair were stopped by police with the stolen materials at 3.15am, but Lewis was able to bluff his way through their questions, and was allowed to go on his way.

When the goods were later reported stolen, police gained a warrant to search Lewis’ property and found the materials in his backyard.

Lewis later pleaded guilty to burglary.

The female associate was given police diversion, meaning she did not have to face charges in court, but Lewis was sentenced to five months and two weeks of home detention, after Judge Jonathan Krebs turned down his application for a discharge without conviction.

Lewis then appealed the sentence and sought a discharge without conviction in the High Court.

Retail Crime

Reported Incidents 2022 vs 2018 - 106,566 vs 52,356 up 104%

Convictions 2022 vs 2018 - 6,424 vs 7,011 down 8.4%

Result of Labour's pro-crime & pro-gang policies as well as the policy of reducing the prison population.

Speechless. So terribly sad that this sort of crime - actually a horrifying one, the woman woke up to find an intruder in her home - is treated as almost inconsequential. The terror this person would have felt is indescribable; fear for her life, fear for the life of her unborn child. In the event she was sexually violated by an intruder. She would have passed that trauma through to her unborn child. It’s a wonder she didn’t miscarry.

And then we read that the home invader and sex offender ‘thanked the Judge’ and crowed that he’d “cracked it”. He’s actually jubilant. No remorse. Serious criminals are laughing at our justice system and the farce that is ‘home detention’.

Remember, the ideology of the Left is that he’s the real victim, while the middle class that gets predated on by criminal scum are routinely described as ‘wealthy’, ‘privileged’, or ‘selfish’.
There is a lot of sinister subtext in the language used by the Left, language that gives a tacit signal to low-lifes that they can attack those ‘privileged’ people who - through personal effort and the assuming of societal obligations - are living decent and purposeful lives.
In the event scumbag criminal offenders are caught, they are often treated with kid gloves & given all sorts of sentence ‘discounts’ for mainly spurious reasons.

Totally in tune and in line with Labour's pledge to reduce prison population by 25% - by increasing the number of criminals on home detention and releasing criminals early from prisons.

The fact that innocent members of the public are subject to increased incidences of violent crimes is totally ignored by Labour & the Greens.

So yesterday NZ saw a scumbag violent offender, on home detention and allowed to work, committed murder - killed 2 and injured 10 courtesy of Labour's pro-crims policies.

Can you imagine anything as ridiculous as a criminal on home detention being allowed to work? How was he monitored and who was monitoring him to make sure he went home after work and he was not interacting with other criminals, or committing crimes?

Yet more bailed scum out on the loose under Labour's Go Lightly on Crime approach ;)

Where was the "Promoting safer Communities" seen on the wall behind in a recent Police TV Media release ?

Between a clueless mob of Govt Front Benchers, a lame Judiciary, a Muppet making excuses for youth crime, the Chumpkins Clown only waking up now to potentially being give the boot in October and Police charged with keeping the shambles under control - collectively how much faith should Joe Public have in this lot where it seems best effort resembles the ambulance broken down at the bottom of the hill ? ;)

Ramraid capital crime wave by the numbers: Top cop on Waikato's crime explosion

An “explosion” in youth offending has forced crime stats up by almost a quarter in Waikato in the last year, according to the region’s top cop.

Waikato District Commander Superintendent Bruce Bird spoke exclusively to the Waikato Times candidly saying “Waikato has had an explosion in the top end offending”

And the numbers bear him out:

Crime shot up 22% nationwide in the past 12 months, police say.

In the Waikato, the increase in crime over that year is a whisker higher, at 23%.

320 - The number of charges Waikato police have laid after dealing with 30 ramraids and 59 smash-and-grabs in the past six months.

41 – The number of people arrested in relation to the above ramraids and smash-and-grabs. Bird says Waikato arrests this year are “probably heading this year for some pretty big numbers”.

69 – Stolen vehicle crimes have increased 69% in the Waikato in the past year. That’s the biggest jump of the four crime categories Bird gave figures for.

34 – Waikato robbery figures have climbed 34% in the past year.

43 – Maybe you’ve been thinking about a steering wheel lock? Thefts from cars rose 43% in the Waikato over the past 12 months.

57 – And non-residential burglaries in the Waikato went up 57% over the same period.

Hamilton resident's groups on social media are awash with daily reports of hooded criminals breaking into their homes and cars.

This is what the Govt Beehive incompetents regard as Labour's safer communiities - folks ;)

In case you missed it:

Wheel locks are mandatory in Hamilton if you want to keep your car.

Rest home carer tried to swindle $10k from resident, spent $2k on victims’ debit cards

Phillipa Ngamokopuna preyed on the elderly rest home residents she was employed to care for.

She gained the trust of three 89-year-olds to access their debit cards and steal from them, all the while making them believe she was a dutiful caregiver.

Now the pensioners say they no longer feel they can trust anyone at the rest home.

Ngamokopuna had built up so much trust with one of the victims that he bought a gift to thank her for helping him with his online shopping.

The 34-year-old also stole a bank card from another victim after the elderly woman was admitted to Waikato Hospital, racking up nearly $500 in spending.

She had worked at the rest home from June 2021 but resigned once her offending came to light earlier this year.

The solo mother was in the Hamilton District Court yesterday where she applied for a discharge without conviction on five dishonesty charges.

Counsel Joshua de Vries said his client admitted her offending was driven by greed and alcohol use, which “took her focus from where her work should have been”.

“Ms Ngamokopuna has instructed me that the charges represent a particularly shameful period of her life, not one that she wishes to repeat.”

She had since undertaken counselling for her alcohol use and was prepared to pay reparation but due to her low income as a cleaner, and child care costs, could only afford to pay each victim $10 a week.

He submitted the convictions would affect her standing in the community and affect her future employment.

Police opposed her application for discharge without conviction.

Filthy thieving scumbag trying to swindle the vulnerable elderly :)

“You point out that you are a Cook Islander, but you do not live on the islands.

Looks like the excuses did not wash down very well :)

“In my view, it is in the public interest that future employers know you have in the past acted dishonestly so that any future employer can make up his or her own mind about whether they should give you an opportunity.

Wonder if any of the victims will ever see the repayment of all of what she stole @ $10 pw each ? ;)

Well you’ve hit the nail on the head: if you are National voter who happens to believe - as is your right - in ‘personal responsibility’ (which the Left have somehow managed to term into a loaded term), then the subtext is that its actually you that let this gunman down. Because you live and work in the current system, obey the law, look after your family…your are ‘privileged’, ‘selfish’, ‘wealthy’ etc etc etc. You should get with the programme and get ‘progressive’ - or you’ll be demonised!

Hey, but what if you have a job, obey the system, look after your family…but your parents died in a car accident when you were 3? What if your mum killed herself when you were 15? What if you are neurodiverse? What if you suffer from chronic back pain? Because you have crosses to bear, crosses you may bear alone and in silence, shouldn’t you be a desperate criminal?
What if you are battling depression and anxiety, but still manage to get out of bed on time, have a shower, get dressed, have breakfast, get to work after battling through rush hour traffic, put in an 8 hour day at a desk, and do that 5 days a week for decades…shouldn’t you be ‘angry at the system’? Perhaps a ‘desperate criminal’? Or are you ‘privileged’, ‘selfish’, ‘wealthy’ ‘a silver spooner’?

What is you are battling cancer, are still going to work, are still looking after your family (paying bills, putting food on the table). Are you really some sort of selfish privileged mongrel?

It seems society was giving Matiu Reid every chance and more. He choked his partner half to death, and society ‘punished’ him by letting him get a job and earn money. How ‘tough’! How ‘cruel’!

Post of the week.

Long overdue that this reverse guilt mentality of Labour, Greens, Te Pati was called out and overthrown!

They are actually killing our society mate, they are actually saying up is down & forward is reverse. If you knuckle down, buck up, pay your taxes, obey the laws, and allow a workplace to consume the bulk of your adult life you are guilt-tripped and gas lit until your head is spinning. You are the bad person. You are the selfish person. And if dare to take a risk, start a business & employ people you are an ‘evil selfish capitalist’ - doubly so if you have the temerity to vote National and ACT.

The are people out there battling horrendous difficulties every day to keep going, keep going through the mill of the rat race to try and do right by their nearest and dearest. If they happen to believe in personal responsibility they are being harangued that they are wrong, selfish, stupid. They carry on in silence, and they will go to their graves largely anonymous and unheralded. And now we will get the Ballad of Matiu Reid, a tale of woe and deprivation about a person who was treated with kid gloves by the state, who was not jailed after committing violent crimes, who was allowed to take on a job, and who shot and killed two men who came from a minority ethnic group but had pulled themselves up and were trying to do right by their families and society. It is all so warped and sick.

In order to do so, they have to get past the weight of guilt and the constant inference that they are morally wrong for doing anything other than voting for Labour (or one of Labours proxies). Imagine it: you abide by the law, look after your family, hold down a job….and you are the one who is ‘morally wrong’.

If you vote for one of the ‘good’ parties of the Left, say you vote Green - then apparently you’ll sleep the sound sleep of the righteous and just, knowing the media and state is telling you you are “saving the planet” (you aren’t). Then you wake up one day and find you actually voted for Marama Davidson to ‘give Aotearoa back to its rightful owners’, and global temperatures are still rising. “Ah well, I am the descendent of a filthy exploiting colonialist anyway, so alls well that ends well”.

You capture and express the mindset that has been foisted onto NZ people extremely well.

Its the left politicians who have done so much harm to this country with their divisive and woke doctrine and policies, who should be feeling the guilt.

Somehow, and with assistance of media as you say, they have hijacked and deflected much public thinking away from their agendas.

Wake up NZ, and tip those who rely on your apathy to work against you, out on their bums!

Released prisoner hits Rebel Sport three times, takes cars, burgles and splashes on stolen credit cards

A woman on a 7-month crime spree came face-to-face with a home owner’s daughter after jumping out the window to avoid being caught.

Still holding the stolen goods, she told the girl, “Sorry, it’s for me and my boyfriend” before running off down the street.

The incident was just one out of 25 that resulted in Roma Lady Te Aho being jailed for three years - a sentence she’s now successfully appealed.

But none of these were considered her most serious offence when Te Aho ended up in the Napier District Court after pleading guilty to 25 charges, plus a further shoplifting charge from 2021.

udge Collins jailed Te Aho for three years for the raft of offending, which also involved other shoplifting incidents and unlawfully entering or taking cars – once by lifting a staff member’s keys from behind the counter of a restaurant.

However, Te Aho has now managed to get four months taken off that prison sentence by appealing to the High Court over the calculations Judge Collins used in sentencing her.

At the age of 27, she had a criminal record which ran for 17 pages, mostly for dishonesty offences - shoplifting and theft, burglary and using a document for pecuniary advantage.

She had committed more than 100 crimes while on bail for other offences, and when she offended last year, was on release conditions after being freed from prison in March 2022.

In first sentencing Te Aho, Judge Collins made no order for reparations and remitted her outstanding fines of $15,273 because she would not have been able to pay them.

Let the scum out & look what happens.. this thing should be put on hard labour to repay all her victims and pay for her keep; then only released on a hefty good behavour & employment bond ;)

And you might wonder whether this is an isolated case? It's not, it's happening everywhere. It's because crime does pay under this government, they can literally get away with anything.

You must know that for a crim to get to the high court, their legal fees along that journey are being paid by you, the taxpayer, and this is the leniency they can expect! A wet bus ticket after 100's of crimes and the judge waiving recompense because 'she can't pay for it'.

Well get a job you useless piece of ____ and pay those people back what you stole from them, after you've done time in prison. Once upon a time, when my beloved immaculate original MKIII Zephyr was stolen, and torched, by a couple of dumb fecking useless teenagers, they got convictions and had to pay recompense, to me, for decades, albeit at some paltry amount weekly. They still had to pay me back though. And they did.

What has become of our justice system that a low-life rip off merchant gets her recompense wiped and avoids any serious consequences? It just promotes ongoing misbehaviour as there is no consequence for her.

And, she is not the only one, oh no, not by a long shot. These crims know that there is no consequence and they can be recidivist offenders even under court imposed constraints (like bail, parole etc), and nothing, zero, nada, ever comes from it.

Appalling. This government has truely screwed the pooch with law and order. And it's us, the law abiding who are getting shafted as these people steal our stuff and screw the system to get leniency. Bloody beggars belief really.

Five young teens are set to appear in court after raiding a Waikato liquor store armed with a pistol, shotgun and axe.

Police say the group aged between 13 and 15 years was involved in a police chase on State Highway 1 and tracked from the air and by dogs to a property some 11km away after stealing alcohol from a Pōkeno bottle shop.

Counties Manukau South Area Commander Inspector Joe Hunter said the group of masked robbers were carrying a number of weapons including a pistol, shotgun and an axe when they entered the Market Rd store.

He said police responded to the robbery after 6pm but the offenders had already fled in a nearby vehicle.

“The five masked offenders initially fled in a vehicle which they abandoned nearby.

“As our staff arrived into the area, they sited another vehicle driving at high speed and continuing south on State Highway One.”

Are you a recent immigrant as you seem to have little understanding of how anything works ?
In NZ we don't allow Ministers of the Crown to have any influence on individual cases hence NZ's being one of the least corrupt countries in the world.

The police have caught, arrested, charged & brought before the Courts the 5 offenders.
As a rule they don't bash or recklessly shoot or knee & suffocate random potentially innocent/terrified/suspicious victims here like we see so often in some US states.

You sound keen for our Minister of Police to be like some unaccountable small town Southern County Sheriff, meting out justice as he/she sees fit!

It's over to the Courts now to deal with the offenders & sentencing parameters are set by Parliament & none have been changed, they are exactly the same now as under the previous National govt.

Ginny Anderson has zero say in how these offenders are dealt with.

Watching Ginny Andersen, new minister of justice, on TV3 on Saturday - so Ardern. Anything but answer the questions.

Good to see that she is not allowed to get away from her clueless and deflective answers by Rebecca Wright.

Asked about rank & file police expressing frustrations with the woke and ineffective ‘policing by consent’, she tried first not to answer, then she denied that there’s such an issue.

So as far as Hipkins and this government is concerned, nothing is going to change - woke policing is here to stay with all the associated breakdown in law and order under this clueless and racist government.

White middle class NZers need to vote in a new government to being sanity and common sense back to policing - give support to the frustrated rank and file police ranks to effectively enforce the law.

Roll on October 2023.

Women caught stealing groceries nabbed in police crackdown on retail crime

Three women caught stealing groceries have been apprehended as part of a wider police crackdown on retail crime.

The arrests come as retail crime rates skyrocket.

A 39-year-old south Auckland woman is facing a total of 24 charges of shoplifting from a grocery store as well as trespassing, she will appear in the Pukekohe District Court on September 26.

Police also apprehended a 28-year-old woman for attempting to leave a supermarket with a trolley full of groceries without paying on July 25. She will appear in the Papakura District Court on August 3.

Sorry Boys & Girl's - Labour's turn a blind eye to Free Grocery Shopping is over until after October .. assuming the clueless and incompetent manning the Labour Front bench actually by some miracle manage to come back for another term of dreaming & sleepwalking at the helm ;)

It only took until a few months before the election for the sleeping beauties to wake up that they might be shortly goneburger if they didn't show a few late & limp signs of moving a finger :)

Time to reprint another batch of Home-D passes for all these poor unfortunate light fingered shoplifters

This is really unfortunate & important, the phrase 'Policing by Consent' has absolutely nothing to do with consent of offenders & nether is it 'Woke'.
It's been deliberately & regrettably successfully conflated by those working to destroy trust in govt & our institutions, to mean something completely different from what it actually means, & now being thrown about by those who don't know better.

'Policing by Consent' refers to the Peelian principals, designed by Sir Robert Peel to define an ethical police force.
"The legitimacy of Policing in the eyes of the public is based on support derived from transparency about their powers, their integrity in exercising those powers & their accountability for doing so."

Transparency, Integrity & Accountability, thats what Policing by Consent is !

Remuera gun case: Young Mongols gang associate Brandon Tangi has AK-47 sentence reduced

An imprisoned Mongols gang associate who was caught in a car park of an upscale Auckland neighbourhood with a loaded AK-47-style semi-automatic rifle - capable of discharging 40 rounds “within a matter of seconds” - has had his sentence reduced on appeal.

But although Brandon Vincent Tangi’s new sentence is now less than two years - the point at which custodial terms are often substituted with home detention - the appeal judge made it clear an ankle monitor is not in the 22-year-old’s immediate future.

“A sentencing such as this must draw a line in the sand regarding the carriage of loaded semi-automatic weapons in public, in circumstances which suggest a willingness to use them,” Justice Andrew Becroft wrote in an 18-page decision released to the Herald today.

Labour's Gun Register & Crack down looks just the Bee's Knees & working well ;)

Justice Becroft’s decision was issued to lawyers on Friday afternoon, one day after patched Head Hunters member Mikaere Puata-Chaney was sentenced in the same courthouse for the double-murder of his ex-girlfriend and her father - a shooting that occurred while he was supposed to be at home on electronically monitored bail, awaiting trial for the high-profile Sofitel hotel shooting.

The decision also came less than 10 days after the fatal downtown Auckland construction site shooting in which three people, including gunman Matu Reid, were killed. The 24-year-old had been serving a sentence of home detention for kicking and strangling a woman, leaving her with a broken bone in her neck, when he embarked on the rampage that caused international headlines.

Rotorua central ram-raiders drove vehicle through mall to target four stores

Ram raiders who smashed through the entrance of a Rotorua shopping centre drove a vehicle about 60m into the mall before targeting four stores inside.

The ram-raid happened early on Monday. Yesterday, black tyre marks could be seen on the floor where the ram-raiders drove the vehicle through the southern entrance, facing Victoria St, to one of the stores inside.

Patel said it showed retailers were not protected from ram raids if they were located in a mall.

“It’s happening everywhere. No mall is safe now. Bigger and better malls than us have been robbed. Daytime robberies and everything. We knew sooner or later it’s going to happen here as well. It’s a sign of the times.”

Rotorua ram raid: Chocolates, gum and an empty till stolen from Ngongotaha Books, Lotto & Postshop

Chocolate, gum and an empty till were stolen in a Rotorua ram raid that left a “massive mess” after five thieves couldn’t get into the cigarette cabinet.

Police were called to a business in Ngongotahā Rd at 1.11am after a vehicle was used to enter the building, a spokesman said.

He said nothing was taken. Police had found both vehicles used in the attempted burglary, but were still searching for the offenders.

Reneel Signh, the son of the owner of Ngongotaha Books, Lotto & Postshop, said there was “a massive mess” when he arrived at the shop this morning, including “quite a lot of damage” to the entrance.

He said the offenders drove a car into the building and through the windows before what appeared to be five people jumped out, based on CCTV footage.

“They tried to get into the cigarettes, couldn’t do it, and then they started running around trying to find anything of value,” he said.

Singh said the offenders “just pushed around shelves and smashed things up” making a “massive mess” before taking off with an empty till, some chocolate bars and gum.

He is charged with committing a dangerous act with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, reckless discharge of a firearm, threatening to kill and driving while suspended.

On Sunday police were called after multiple complaints about the way two vehicles were driving. The 22-year-old then allegedly fired a gun at a vehicle and the people inside in, who were known to him.

Detective Senior Sergeant Phillip Skoglund said it was lucky no one was hurt or killed during the incident.

This infuriates me, this area has always been a trouble hot spot with bars & Strip Clubs going way back & we can thank National for closing down the Police Community Station they had in Fort St to save money.

It's well researched, having a police presence deters crime & this would be a much safer area.

National closed down around 30 Community Police Stations & Kiosks, - they talk the big talk on crime but never walk the talk.

The Labour govt should have re-established them but perhaps once gone the cost of re-establishing them prohibitive.

You have defeated your own argument.
If the area was always a trouble spot, then having a Police station there was making no difference was it.

You and others believe high
crime in NZ is due to poverty and poor housing.

If that's true, how about closing ALL the Police stations, converting them to flash apartments for crims and gangsters, sack ALL the cops and distribute their salaries to the crooks?

Problem solved?

Win/Win?

Maybe that's what former minister of Justice Kiri was thinking in Wellington the other night, when instead of trying on the do you know who I am line, she just come clean with the Kelvin Davis line, let the crims go, and all will be sweet, and l will be sacking you guys in the morning!

The proposal of rationalising and closing down police community stations went back as far as when George Hawkins was Police Minister (Clark's government) - fact.

So you are writing garbage as usual to blame gun violence on Queen St on the closure of duplicate stations - how come they did not happen before and they are now happening under this government?

Can you handle the truth?

The truth is that this clueless and useless government is

soft on crime,

initiated woke policing by consent,

reduce prison numbers by early release of numerous criminals from prison

and

told NZers that criminals are 'victims' of the very crimes they commit!

Think about the recent Queen St double killings - a violent criminal wandering about, allowed to work & mingle outside while under home detention and was able to get a gun to kill & injured many.

Where were the police who are there to make NZers safe as there are more of them (refer Ginny Andersen)?

Nearly 6 years in government and all that Labour and you can do is moan about the previous governments and take zero responsibility for all the carnage happening out there on multiple fronts because of Labour’s failed & disastrous policies.

This is the sort of government you want to run NZ for another 3 years?

The secret 'red book' of judges' perks that officials don't want you to see

The Government is refusing to make public a suite of taxpayer-funded privileges for the country’s judges.

The judiciary has one of the most generous pensions in the public service, with their salaries padded by nearly 40%.

But they’re also entitled to things like chauffeurs, housing allowances, and even subsidised school uniforms.

The benefits are all laid out in what’s colloquially known as ‘the red book’ of judicial entitlements. The Sunday Star-Times asked for a copy – but the request was denied, with no explanation.

Judges’ retirement nest egg – which allows judges to contribute to a superannuation fund that is then topped up by $7.50 for each dollar they contribute – is part of their healthy compensation package. In contrast, MPs receive $2.50 from the public purse for every $1 they put in.

Judges’ remuneration and some of their allowances are revealed in the Sunday Star-Times today, but their full list of privileges – and the cost of these perks – remain under wraps.

Plenty of padding thrown around by the Taxpayer Gravy train for anyone but the victims of Crime it seems ;)

Police are continuing to investigate the burglary at Siso which occurred just before 3.30am on Wednesday, in a wealthy suburb about five kilometres east of downtown Auckland.

The ram raid has been slammed by Desley Simpson, Auckland deputy mayor and Ōrākei ward councillor.

“I am beyond angry that yet again we have yet another ram raid ... This sort of crime is happening more and more in my ward and adds a huge amount of unnecessary stress and cost to local businesses who are just trying to provide a service and make a living.”

Car ramming into group of people linked to gang-related Palmerston North homicide investigation

A car ramming into a group of people near a bar was part of a chain of events leading to a gang-related homicide in Palmerston North.

Police have confirmed the incident, which occurred on Main St on Friday night and was captured on video, is linked to a gang fight between members of the Mongrel Mob and Black Power outside the Castle 789 bar, and a homicide on Croydon Ave in the suburb of Highbury on Sunday.

The footage, provided to Stuff, shows a black car running up and over an island and into a group of people outside the bar.

One person was taken onto the hood of the car all the way over to the other side of the street before being flung to the ground. The vehicle appears to attempt to hit them again.

Auckland crime: Police arrest six children aged 12 and 13 for breaking into cars

Six children aged 12 and 13 years have been arrested overnight for breaking into cars in East Auckland.

A police spokesperson said officers received reports at 3.45am about the group of offenders and the Eagle helicopter was sent.

Counties Manukau East area prevention manager Inspector Rakana Cook said two vehicles were seen travelling together and one came to a stop in Ōtara after spikes were deployed on Ti Rakau Drive. Five young people were arrested.

“Eagle has continued to observe the movements of the second vehicle as it travelled around the Howick and Whitford area.”

Spikes were again successfully deployed on the Panmure Bridge, and the driver was taken into custody on the Ellerslie-Panmure Highway, Cook said.

All six were aged between 12 and 13 and would be referred to Youth Aid.

“I would like to acknowledge the community’s vigilance in reporting this suspicious activity to us, so we can respond,” Cook said.

“A good description was provided to the police, and this assisted the Eagle crew when they arrived in the area.”

Faith healer said massages were on God’s instruction, but jury told they were sexually motivated

A faith healer said he was acting on God’s instructions when he gave women massages to treat illness, but a prosecutor alleges his motivation was sexual rather than spiritual.

Nga Teiri, also known as Nga Teina, 67, is facing a jury trial in the Napier District Court on 16 charges of indecent assault.

Crown prosecutor Michael Blaschke said the charges, which date back to events in 2019, involved several Pasifika women in Hawke’s Bay and Waikato.

He said Teiri gave massages to people in the Cook Islands community in the North Island, saying he could cure sickness and that he was acting on God’s instructions.

However, the Crown case was that, when he massaged some of the women, he was sexually motivated, touching them on their breasts or inner thighs.

“A massage is not indecent on its own,” Blaschke said. “It is the sexual nature of the touching that cancelled out the consent of the complainants.”

The 16 charges involve several women, some of whom are connected to more than one charge. Some of the charges are representative, meaning they cover several alleged incidents within certain dates.

The women’s ages vary. One is in her 30s, but most are middle-aged or older.

The court was told that Teiri’s treatment involved an “unblocking” procedure which he claimed would restore circulation to treat illnesses such as cancer.

Teiri is representing himself but counsel Shannon Withers and Vernon Tava have been appointed by the court to assist in his defence.

Withers told the jury of eight women and four men that all the touching was consented to at the time it happened.

Former Warriors star Manu Vatuvei on how going to prison saved his life

By Joseph Los'e
21 Aug, 2023 05:02 AM

‘A former Warriors star who was sent to prison for importing hundreds of thousands of dollars of meth says “jail was probably the best thing that ever happened to me” and credits his stint behind bars with saving his life.

Manu Vatuvei has spoken exclusively, for the first time since his release from prison, about the dark spiral that saw him end up in jail, how his time inside helped him turn his life around, and his hopes for the future.

The 37-year-old, who was jailed last year for importing drugs, doesn’t want people to forgive or forget his stuff-ups. But he is hoping his lesson and his message can help others suffering from drug addiction or mental health issues.

Vatuvei was last year jailed for three years and seven months for importing around $200,000 of methamphetamine from India.

His fall from grace was a long way down but a short time coming. After spending 15 months in prison, Vatuvei was paroled in May.

He is adamant that had he not gone to jail last year, he would have been in a far worse predicament now.

“In prison, it gave me time to reflect on life and reflect on where I was and all my problems I was trying to run away from,” Vatuvei said.

“Being stuck in four walls on your own reminds you.

“Jail was probably the best thing that ever happened to me because I would have been in a worse position than what I am now.”

He said he met a lot of people in prison from all walks of life and had plenty of time to reflect.

“If I can overcome what I went through, I’m sure anyone can,” he said.

“In prison, I spoke to the psychologist and it was hard at the start to talk but now I feel more comfortable talking about my situation. It gets easier.

“I want to share my story and help people because of what I experienced. I can’t go back. I have to go forward.”’

Cultural violation’: Man who poached 4600 crayfish for ‘sprawling’ black market ring jailed

A man who abused the customary permit system to illegally harvest more than 4600 crayfish for a widespread black market ring has been sent to prison.

John Nohotima, 60, made nearly $64,000 from his commercial-scale poaching operation, but the value of the crayfish he took would have been $300,000 if it had been harvested and sold legally.

He appeared for sentencing in the Wairoa District Court on Wednesday - the latest of a dozen members of what the Crown called a “sprawling” black market operation to face the courts.

Nohotima harvested the crayfish at Māhia over 11 months between 2020 and 2021 using falsified customary permits and they were sold throughout Auckland, Kawerau, Tauranga, Gisborne, Wairoa, Māhia and Napier.

Repeat child sex offender who abused 16-month-old toddler has sentence overturned, now free

Edward Gay
05:00, Aug 26 2023

‘A repeat child sex offender who cut off his electronic tracking bracelet and sexually abused a 16-month-old toddler while on parole has had his prison sentence slashed on appeal.

Fabian Whati Moore was sentenced to preventive detention with a minimum non-parole period of five years when he appeared at the High Court in Auckland in October 2022.

The sentence meant Moore would not have been released from prison until he could prove he was no longer a threat to the community.

However, following a successful appeal to the Court of Appeal, Moore was eligible for release, on time already served, and was released from prison in July.

Moore has a criminal history that stretches back 30 years and includes convictions for sexually abusing five children and raping a woman.

Court documents released to Stuff show Moore’s most recent offending happened while he was subjected to a 10-year Extended Supervision Order (ESO).’

McDonald’s on Cavendish Drive robbed by group of four, police investigating

Police are seeking witnesses to an incident overnight where four males robbed an Auckland McDonald’s, assaulting a staff member and taking items.

Police were called to McDonald’s on Cavendish Drive, Papatoetoe about 3.10am after the group entered the store armed with tools.

In a statement, police said the staff member was not seriously injured but was understandably shaken by the incident.

The offenders then left the scene in a vehicle.

Former Mongrel Mob senior leader Mark Griffiths jailed for role as kingpin in meth ring

A former Sergeant of Arms of the Waikato Mongrel Mob has been jailed for 10 years for spearheading a commercial drug operation that saw methamphetamine distributed around the country.

Mark Griffiths, 53, will have to serve a minimum of five years in jail before qualifying for parole after being arrested as part of Operation Oakville, the police sting on Griffiths’ group of dealers selling class A and B drugs in Waikato, Auckland, and Wellington.

Teens charged with aggravated robbery of Palmerston North tavern

Two teens have been charged with the aggravated robbery of a tavern in Palmerston North.

The Willow Park Tavern on Tremaine Ave was targeted about 10.20pm on Friday by three males who allegedly presented a firearm and demanded cash.

A police spokesperson said on Monday two teens had been charged with possession of a firearm, unlawfully getting into a motor vehicle and aggravated robbery.

An 18-year-old appeared in the Wellington District Court on Monday morning, and was due to reappear in Palmerston North in September.

Youth who avoided jail for violent attack on 78-year-old faces new charges

A teen who avoided jail for the brutal beating of a 78-year-old man is back before the courts charged with aggravated robbery.

It hasn’t been three months since Judge Bridget Mackintosh addressed the teen in the Napier District Court, telling him there were “some kernels of hope” that he and his co-offender would go on to become “much, much better people”.

Media are only permitted to report on Youth Court matters with a judge’s approval. It was granted to Stuff on that occasion.

The youth and his older co-offender had violently assaulted the elderly man in his home and left him for dead in January 2022.

Nothing learned by either the Judiciary or the young Crim who probably still deserved something even stiffer instead

Man who burgled storm-damaged home in Nelson sentenced to two and a half years in prison

The “targeted” burglary of a storm-damaged home when Nelson was in a state of emergency has cost a young man his freedom.

Jackson Ormond was jailed today for three separate burglaries of the dress-circle Nelson home last August, in which he took about 280 items.

The owners lodged an insurance claim for more than $40,000, but far more than that was stolen, Judge Tony Zohrab said while sentencing Ormond, who appeared via video link in the Nelson District Court.

The 33-year-old from Motueka was arrested and charged last year with the repeated burglary of the yellow-stickered home, which was one of many badly damaged by heavy rain and landslides that struck the region a year ago.

Ormond entered guilty pleas to the charges after a sentencing indication in May, plus further charges of breaching community work, offering to sell cannabis and possession of methamphetamine and magic mushrooms.

Auckland crime: Puhinui liquor store ram raided, landlord says robbers becoming more creative

A South Auckland landlord who has spent thousands on retail security says ram raiders are now getting around any measures put in place to stop them after a liquor store was targeted overnight.

Four offenders ram raided a liquor store on Puhinui Rd in Manukau around 11.50pm, police said.

The offenders are believed to have taken cigarettes and alcohol before fleeing in a second vehicle.

Landlord Robin Atwal has spent almost $30,000 on security for his five shops.

“We installed bollards, roller shutters and security grates all at the same time.”

However, he fears offenders are finding more and more creative ways of breaking in

Crimes reported via the police to the media has always been an integral part of helping the public be aware of the crimes happening out there (so the public are on guard) as well as help solve crimes.

Here’s an aggravated robbery & car jacking crime against a doctor in Auckland last year which went unreported by the police to the public until colleagues of the doctor became incensed and went to the media.

Why? Why did the police not report and make the public aware of this particularly nasty crime?

Did it have anything to do with the police being told by this pro-crime Labour government (4 police ministers in a year) to keep quiet about the escalating lawlessness out there?

Begs the question, doesn’t it?

No wonder faith in the police is being eroded under the woke commissioner Foster and equally woke government.

A colleague of the doctor contacted the Herald last year to report the incident, incensed that the public hadn’t been yet made aware of it amid what appeared at the time to be an escalation in gun-related violence citywide.

She said she didn’t want to be identified but wanted the public to be aware such acts “can happen anywhere”.

“It’s terrifying,” she said. “This doesn’t feel like New Zealand anymore.”

Thieves arrested after filling trolleys in failed shoplifting spree at Botany Town Centre

An attempted shoplifting spree at a busy shopping centre has failed, with four arrests before the thieves even left the building.

Five people were caught allegedly loading up trolleys worth of goods at various stores in Botany Town Centre and walking off without paying.

Counties Manukau East Area Prevention Manager, Inspector Rakana Cook said the group was initially followed through the mall by a security guard who searched bags and located a number of stolen items.

“A machete and an axe were also recovered from the bag,” he said.

“The group was escorted off site and Police were quickly notified.

The group then returned to the shopping centre and went to another store where they proceeded to load up trolleys and leave the store without paying.

‘Two young women have allegedly stolen $40,000 worth of groceries, in a spate of supermarket thefts that span just two months.

According to police, the 22-year-old and 26-year-old are facing 29 charges of theft after targetting Auckland supermarkets.

The pair were caught after police noticed a car driving with smashed rear windscreen – and recognised the girls as the offenders wanted for numerous shoplifting incidents.’

Waikato robber dragged 20m as he forces woman to stop car

Atua Edwards knew he was about to be arrested for multiple burglaries so he fled a house he was in and ran into the middle of the street to where a woman was driving in her Hyundai stationwagon.

“Get out of the car, get out of the car,” Edwards yelled as he ran towards her vehicle as it travelled along Mutu St in Te Awamutu.

The woman tried to close her window but the 41-year-old was too quick and reached inside, grabbing her left shoulder before trying to pull her from the car as she drove along the street.

“Get the f*** out,” he yelled as the woman tried to accelerate away.

Edwards held fast for about 20m before the woman stopped, grabbed her handbag and ran.

This incident on February 17 this year was the culmination of a number of burglaries and vehicle thefts Edwards had been responsible for in the previous couple of months.

He broke into the Backyard Bar in Whatawhata during the early hours of December 16, last year, but injured himself on the glass of the window he had smashed while trying to climb through.

After unsuccessfully trying to jimmy open the ATM, gaming safe and a fridge in the wholesale area, he ended up leaving with just a rug off the floor.

On December 30, he drove his own car into Hauturu Primary School near Kawhia and stole the security camera, which sat about 2 metres off the ground.

The camera managed to snap his photo before it was disabled.

Between 1pm and 3pm on January 16, Edwards went to a property in Pukeatua. He filled the property owner’s car with electronics, a drone, lawn mower, child’s 4x4 ride on electronic toy vehicle, then drove off.

He then used the stolen Eftpos card at McDonald’s in Te Awamutu on two separate occasions, just minutes apart, spending more than $75.

Edwards also stole a Ford Ranger from Drive Auto Sales in Tauranga on January 31 before driving it to a Whatawhata property, and twice breaking in within half an hour, and stealing numerous items including a compressor, tools, computers, television, binoculars and other items and leaving.

Edwards was in the Hamilton District Court for sentencing on multiple burglary and vehicle theft charges this week.

Counsel Wayne Dollimore told Judge Brett Crowley the offending was driven by his client’s meth addiction which had crept back into his life.

“It’s the catalyst of the offending, not a defence,” he said.

However, he took exception to comments in a pre-sentence report that he lacked remorse.

Supreme Court rejects appeal from Vietnamese cannabis grower who wants to stay in New Zealand

A woman who was caught growing cannabis has failed in her final bid to appeal her conviction after claiming she wouldn’t have pleaded guilty if she’d known it would mean she could be kicked out of the country.

Ngoc Hong Truong took her fight to stay in New Zealand all the way to the Supreme Court after the Court of Appeal turned down her application to have her 2019 cultivation of cannabis charge quashed earlier this year.

She was sentenced to five months’ community detention and ordered to pay back $2500 worth of electricity she and her husband had stolen to power the operation, which saw them caught with 50 cannabis plants worth between $20,000 and $69,000.

Truong was originally from Vietnam and first came to New Zealand in 2010 as a student, and was living here as a permanent resident when she was arrested for her role in the cannabis-growing syndicate.

Under the Immigration Act, she then became liable for deportation because of her convictions.

However, Immigration NZ only sent her the deportation notice some three years later due to the stress the convictions caused Truong, along with the separation from her husband, who was sentenced to nine months’ home detention for his role in the offending and then deported.

Truong then filed for a discharge without conviction for her cultivation of cannabis charge on the basis that she wouldn’t have pleaded guilty if she’d known it would make her liable for deportation.

She also claims her lawyer did not tell her she could apply to be discharged without conviction, which would have better protected her residency status if successful.

And after 6 years in power, this pro-crim & woke government (criminals are also victims of crime) finally move to consider (yes, consider … not make) stalking a jailable offence!

Took a few serious assaults and deaths before they acted!

https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politics/300965552/labour-considering-new-stalking-offence-with-jail-time-attached

And what’s the excuse (from the government of excuses and shifting blame)?

“Asked why Labour is only doing this now and not during its six years in government, Anderson said, “it's a complex area and really difficult to prove in a court of law, so we want to make sure that we get that detail right, that we're not just creating an offence for the heck of it. We want something that's going to be utilised and to make sure it benefits victims.”

In other words, the victims’ rights come last as the criminals’ rights are #1 with Hipkins & Ardern.
