Good question, I 'll be interested in answer. Have looked at their websites and am impressed with direct.

I'm quite happy with ASB. If your trades are over $30K then just split up the trades into smaller trades below $30K threshold. It's only a small inconvenience.

At $24.95 (brokerage) + $4.50 (trade fee) per trade up to $30K, that's quite reasonable.

I am with Direct but have also thought of joining ASB-what is the problem with over $30k trades?

up to 30k its a flat fee
after that you pay a percentage in addition-i think its 0.1
Therefore less brokerage if you trade in parcels under 30k
Moved to asb after the access debacle
Trading is very efficient and i like the security of a bank plus able to instantly transfer funds on line between various asb bank accounts and the trading account

Tim-no problem with Direct but I bank with ASB so like the idea of being able to transfer funds on-line between various accounts.

Do all discount brokers have "stop loss" facility?

KJ: Certainly NBNZ does, ASB does and I would assume Direct does as well
