View Full Version : CHCH. National Convention success... next meeting 22nd November
Crypto Crude

IMO the chch national convention was a complete success...
firstly I'd like to thank footsie for coming out with the whole idea, and starting the "sharetrader meeting to talk shares thread"...
id also like to thank serpie for helping to organise the even last night...and everyone that turned up which put the event in a league of its own, and by doing that claiming the rights to the first national convention if there is ever one...:D
the Stock Xchange was good to us in giving us free food and also by giving us 15 free complimentry drink vouchers which I distributed amongst the thirsty pack....
I have a couple of things we could put in the pipeline, including going to the NZO annual general meeting this year as a crew, and going to upstream energy conference next year is Auzzie... but I willnot be calling the shots and it is up to the group to add other ideas because it is a two way street...
someone mentioned we could meet auckland STraders before or after the AGM...
others mentioned a meet in August, and one poster suggested a lunch in after Tuis producing... it is up to CHCH representals to follow up on your suggestions...
have a think about my input, and I will get back to yous lata...

I think that last night's turnout means that the ChCh / Rangiora / Oiler2 chapter warrants it's own thread, especially if it's to be the first of many. And already discussion of a few "field trips". Excellent.
It will be a busy week following up the contacts made and the prospects discussed.
I felt a bit left out by not holding NZ Oil and Gas. Might have to buy a handful so I know what everyones talking about. I heard somewhere that you need to hold a certain amount of shares to attend an AGM. Is there any truth to that?
Also, can someone please tell me the name of the book that Murph donated?

Lets party again

Hi all, yes a very generous gesture from Murph. The author is Matthew Simmons a Houston banker who who works in the oil industry.
Well done Serpie and Shrewd.
That dolphin didn't drink much despite the free drinks organised by Shrewdy.

chch representals...listen up....
following up on from Bermuda's kind gesture....
I to am going to stick my neck out...
If NZO doesnot HIT $1.30 on or before the end of July then I will buy everyone at the CHCH meeting a beer...this is a 24% target....
beers would be distributed at the proposed August meeting...
This gives the TUI program enough time to build up flow rates to the 50k target...
and allows for a week of stable flowrates....
and room for delays...
my necks going on the chopping board...

I'm sorry, but we will NOT be beaten for enthusiasm by the Wellington Chapter, who I see are starting to plan their next meeting.
I believe that Shrewd Crude was, this very day, negotiating with The Stock Exchange for an even better deal than last time.
All members of the ChCh / Rangiora / Oiler2 chapter please pencil in a meeting for around the second week of August to coincide with the next release of quarterlies.
Exact time and date (to suit the majority) to be confirmed.

We aren't in competition with you, in fact i'm here to extend an invitation to any Chch people interested in attending the next Wgtn event.
Will likely be at either St Johns Heineken Hotel or the Wellington Brewery, both on the harbour & have the NZX headquarters in between.
May make an effort to attend a Chch event later in the year ;)

Good on you for taking up the reins and driving this one. Let's see how much steel there is in the Canterbury contingent during these tough times.
If Grizz Wylie was a trader, would he give up now? NO!
If Fergie McCormick was on ST, would HE be at the meeting? YOU BET YA!

The Stock Exchange is a pub just back from the corner of Cashel and Manchester St.
We had about 15 or 16 there last time, and half filled the place. Just wander in and go up to any intelligent looking person and there's a fair chance that they will be a sharetrader.

It is interesting to see now after two meetings in Christchurch how people seem to open up more and more and to see very lively discussions going on in the various groups as people tended to move from group to group and add there 2 cents worth.
You better believe we will have another meeting ....... Nov? we need to let Shrewdy finish his study and get a pass before we have another one.

Cup day is a great day, quite correct... I missed Lindauer Lawn tickets last year, it wont happen again!
Sorry couldn't make it guys, came down with the flu quite badly - Work made me do four return trips to auckland in just over a week so someone on one of those planes has a lot to answer for! :(

I think that too many people (including myself) have their own Cup Day traditions that they would be hesitant to give up.
I was thinking more about avoiding Cup Day amd Show Day because of other commitments. It's a busy time of the year.
How about we pencil in Saturday 3rd November at 4pm. It's before the racing carnivals start, and tucks in neatly behind the next quarterly results.
The other option is increasing the frequency of meetings. Anyone keen for 6 a year rather than 4?
People have mentioned special guests / presentations etc. I'd like to suggest that Shrewd Crude does a presentation on "How To Upset Posters on HC".

3....the presentation would be over before it even started .. its quite amazing though, RRS has a big following over at HC, and posters here were the complete opposite...

Good day all,
As our friend Oiler has pointed out, we need to finalise a date for the next ChCh meeting, as it is a busy time of the year.
Key dates for the Canterbury region around this time are:
Labour Day - Monday 22/10/07
Cup Day - Tuesday 13/11/07
Show Day - Friday 16/11/07
So, how about Saturday November 2nd at 4pm?
Same place?
The Wellington and Auckland events are taking off, and looking to take our national crown, so let's get in behind this one.
How's that date for everyone?

oiler,
the story of RRS goes like this...
Redzone started a thread here called "Serious oil play"-... instantly I had to look at this new oil pick because of the title of the thread... Lizard came out and asked for my opinion on a $7 valuation of the company when The share was trading at 95cents...So I stood up and said the company sucked, and the valuation was foney...
Ive since had to standup for my beliefs on RRS ever since....
....
.... I kept on seeing RRS on top 10 postings over at HC, it was a hit stock over there... so I had a go at the company and have stood up for my views ever since over tat HC......
I told them that the SP would get dumped and it fell 50% in a short time.... Also, about 1-2weeks ago, I said the options (RRSO) would be worthless... and rrso has since capiculated, even though those posters with all the inside Info told me otherwise.......
.... Over at HC it was something like 1 vs 100...me vs the pack... And I stood up and gunned them all down... Theres some special email group called RUM that have been looking to dig up Dirt on me, and snooping because they think im a paid downramper... so I disclosed RRS to be dump trucked on the bottom of my post here so that they would see it...:D....
.....
I actually bought my first parcel of shares during the week... Bought some CUE....

After personally touring the other events, Ive come to my unbiased opinion that we still hold the NC honours, but it could be taken off us if Auckland gets another meeting raging after the last one turned out rather successful...so make sure you turn up to the next NC event, regardless if yourve missed previous events or not... bring a mate if you like... first drink is free as per usual...

SC the Wellinton meeting was a bigger success than the last meeting, but CHC can relax for the moment, you still have the National Convention Title but you cannot afford to rest on your laurels or Auckland will take it off you :D:D

There is an online based meeting reminder system on the net called Meetup.com http://investing.meetup.com (http://investing.meetup.com) I am happy to set up and finance this service if anyone thinks there is any merit in it. It will remind those who don't go online regularly and may attract new members at the same time. I can see our group developing into regular meetings and this give us the ability to chop and change to our hearts content.

Rude Crude!
I haven't mate. I was thinking about having it a bit sooner in February. Maybe around the 9th. But I'm not sure when Waitangi Day is this year. We've also got to consider our out-of-town amigos.
As for a venue - I'm thinking that, if it's a Saturday arvo, then somewhere with an outside option would be the go. Somewhere central, where we could go inside if it's crap weather.
Any suggestions from others would be greatly appreciated. Failing that I'll post some options later in the week, and see what people think.
Looking forward to it as always.

How about the 16th or the 9th. I would prefer the 16th but will go with the majority.
I think having it outside is a great idea Serpie. How about the Dux delux they have quite a lot of space although Sat afternoon/evening gets busy over there. We could go to Pegasus Bay winery.....hahaha.
I will be there either day !!!

Hey rotweiller,
There are two things that are most important to me...
a) making positive returns, specifically beating market index returns...
b) Threads that I open/stocks that I pick and discuss performing as expected...
....
Share comp picks comes in 3rd....Sure I would have liked to have done better Last year.. It was My first year in any comp and I took on two U stocks after I'd seen U stocks explode in late 2006...
for the comp, one fell 80%, the other around 50%...
This year I have picked 4 oilers I feel strong about, and One of the U's again...
all the best for your 4 day duty, I know where Id rather be...

I'd encourage all to come along to these meetings. They're always friendly, and very casual, and there's a mix of ages, experience levels and interests.
It's great putting faces to names, and discovering that even the gurus are just normal, enthusiastic people.
And please don't be concerned if you haven't mad it to any of the previous get-togethers. I've been to a couple and still haven't got to talk to everyone. There's new faces each time.

Great to see that the Chch ST gathering has had some positive feedback.
I know how good it is to meet up with people of like minds (Sharemarket stuff, I mean). We all have extreme levels of knowledge of the Sharemarket, from knowing buggar all to the masters of the trade. And everyone is always made to feel so welcome, no matter where across the spectrum you fit.
So, for those who have never been to one of these gatherings, I say, (I steal this from Nike) JUST DO IT!!!!

Aucks..... we have to start planning the next one.....

Hey NC'ers
Our past CHCH national convention meeting venue encountered an incident with Cricketing hero Jesse Ryder on Saturday night... He was quoted as saying (from An undisclosed newspaper today) " I became aware of The Stock Exchange after local CHCH sharetraders threw raging parties there" unquote...he went on further but did go on to say, "this place goes off"... the reporter replied, "what do you mean?, are you talking about your finger"

Good evening Mainlanders,
I was speaking to a couple of the attendees at the Auckland meeting last night and we may have some special guests for the next ChCh meet. Oiler's always keen of course, but Mattyroo may also be floating around mid-May, so we need to get our dates sorted to give them the best chance of attending.
I think Matty's away later in May, so how is Saturday the 17th of May? Specifically for you Bermuda, since it's at your house!

Yes this looks okay. We can stay on at my place and finish the oysters and keg and watch the game on my new big screen. No problem. Should be fun.
I was going to go to the game but I think we could have a good time watching it at home
together. And then the younger ones can hit the town! ( with me of course!! )
So let's go for May 17th 4.00pm at 99 Puriri Street Riccarton Christchurch.

I'll be there of course Shrewdy / Super B.
You should be watching your back in the ASX comp - I'm up 40 places this month, and that was before INL jumped 40% on Friday.
We'll get a bit more organised closer to the time with regard to who brings what to the National Convention, otherwise the lovely Mrs Super B will be up all night baking sausage rolls.
BYO drinks of course, and I'll organise the ice. How much ice does your swimming pool hold B?
Id love to make this one to, I've missed the last two due to stupidity. Hopefully that doesn't rub off on any future stock selections etc! lol..
Will be good to see you guys again, and would you believe Serpie. Am in another flat now, dog allowed, got a settlement payout out of our old flat. The landlords got things wrong would you believe, heh. Things going ok.
Cheers

I'm glad you didn't move into one of my rentals AJ - sounds like you're nothing but trouble!
Just kidding cobber, and it will be great to see you at Bermuda's place.
I was speaking with Shrewd yesterday, and he says he's not joking about bringing a keg, so we'll need a few young fellas to make a dent in it.
What have you let yourself in for Bermuda!
