Anyone know of a nice basic charting package that is not too pricey (covers NZX and ASX shares) AND runs on a Mac (without virtual PC/Bootcamp etc)? Thanks in advance.

Jess9, You might like to have a look at ProTA. (http://www.beesoft.net)

You can download a free demo or buy the basic version for US$130. (That's very cheap). If you want more functionality, you can then upgrade to their top version for another US$170. I have no personal knowledge of this software, but it looks really good - especially the "Gold" version, which adds scanning, system testing and optimisation functionality. This software was given top rating by the AAII (American Association of Individual Investors) here. (http://www.beesoft.net/reviews.html)

If I were a MAC user this is the one I would go for, buying the basic version with the intention of upgrading later. (You don't save any money by buying it all upfront.)

Go for it!

Software looks good, from a quick look over (more time needed now to have a good read and play). Thanks for the link.

Phaedrus, after briefly using web based charts I see that a third party data source is required for standalone charting software. Who are good providers of reliable price information (past and present) for NZX and ASX markets? Are any significantly better (or worse) than others?

Findata and Infoscan are roughly equivalent in my view.

Findata Aus and NZ EOD data :- $30/month
Findata Aus and NZ 10 yrs History :- $240.

Infoscan Aus and NZ EOD data :- $33/month
Infoscan NZ 18 yrs History :- $100.
Infoscan Aus 10 yrs History :- $100.
