Shasta .... found some Little Creatures at the Boulcott Bistro the other night ... tried the Pilsener and it was really drinkable ... and a Heineken fan with us had one as well ... and then another so it can't be too bad

Barman said not too many asked for it but said he will push it more .... he can't lose cause it costs a buck more than any other beer in the fridge

Looking forward to the visit to the Little Creatures Dining Hall in Melbourne next month

I looked at LWB before departing ST? For what it's worth I noticed that the capital expenses had increased dramaticaly from 07 (Possibly due to growth), but when I reduced capital expenses and depreciation to zero the picture looked a little brighter and the return on investment increased to 10.4%. I still think thats a little low but it's one I will be watching. Disregarding the PE I still think it's a little exy.

Also the long term debt is greater than the current assets, maybe this is something else to consider in this toxic environment?
cheers

Lion Nathan now owns just over 23m shares or ~39%

Off to Fritzroy on Sunday Shasta to try out the Little Creatures Dining Hall .... looking forward to it

Shareprice hanging in there in spite of the turmoil ....... but totally illiquid with hardly trades .... unlike the pub I hope

Really like the stuff .... but Martin Bosely's don't stock it ... the barman raved on how great the wine selection was for connoisoirs and didn't want to know about crafted beer ...... even though he had some Monteiths stuff there

I'm not fussy ..... anything from breakfast with Rodney Hide at the Backbencher to Rockpool in Sydney (as long as the boss pays)

When it comes down to the crunch though a decent burger with a nice cold lager (pref Little Creatures) is about all you want.

Burger at Arizona pretty good ..... used to like the burgers at the Brewery Bar with a Wicked Blonde but the last time i went there they only had lamb burgers on the menu.

Where you hang out

If you came along to one of the Wellington ST meetings, you'd find out...

We've had them at St Johns, & Mac's Brewery & even out at Montieths in Mana

I'm very flexible & whilst i don't head out as much as i used to*, i like Vivo Wine Bar, General Practioner, all depends who i'm with & what the occasion is...

You been to the new Malthouse on Courtney Place?

* Guilty of spending too much time/money at Mini Bar in the past :o

tried the little creatures beer (pale ale) very nice

my favourite beer of all time is

1. Leffe Blonde
2. James Squire (pilsner) from aussie - its brilliant!

you guys, please try the James Squire Pils, tell me your thoughts

I'll look it up, NZ has plenty of Aussie beers available, but boutique craft beers can be hard to find...

Little Creatures Dining Hall in Fritzroy was a buzz on a late Sunday afternoon . Quite dramatic really being a converted warehouse with long dining tables. Plenty of space and very airy with its high roof.

Beer of course was great and food was OK for pub grub ... fish and chips pretty good but I think they were $18 which is quite pricey .... pizzas seemed pretty popular

Of course its pnly an advertisement for the beer and in that respect it does the job very well. Little Creatures is pretty widely available across melbourne which is good stuff.

Bloody expensive though .... one restaurant it cost A$8 a bottle ..... but prob merits the premium boutigue positioning they are pushing ... plenty of margin for the brewer as well as the outlet eh?

Went back to the dining hall on a Thursday lunch time and just after 12 we were the only ones there .... but the kanagaroo and tomato chutney was pretty good ... poor skippy ..... apparently lunches are the quiet time and all the action starts after work and goes on into the evenings

You must get there shasta .... i think you'd enjoy it .... a big version of the Brewery bar really

As an investment getting attractive .... I like premium things (hopefully with higher than normal margins) and the company seems to be a winner here with plenty of expenasion opportunities across ANZ

tried the James Squire pils yet anyone?
It is a good Australian pilsner, I quite like the simple refreshing taste and would quite happily accept a bottle. However I buy their Porter as I prefer the more complex character if offers. [I generally prefer darker heavier beers, stouts and Guinness]

The Little Creatures range is also good and would be happy enough if your offering.

Meanwhile LWB as an investment? To be honest even at $1.27 I think the price is a little too high for me.

Little Creature [and James Squire] are becoming/have become 'main stream boutique' these days, you can buy the stuff from Woolworths for heavens sake!

LWB shareprice back up to 160 again but hardly a very liquid share

Things apparently still chugging along quite well with this company and continue to sreadily expand etc

Be interesting to see whether Kirin full takeover of Lion will have any impact on future shareholding ..... Lion still steadily increasing shareholding ... even if it is 10,000 shares at a time

Over $2 now Shasta but hardly any trades but that don't matter as in for the long haul with this one .... or at least until Kirrin decide to take over the minorities

Bit peeved last week when had 3 days in Melbourne and couldn't get out to Fitzroy to support the cause at the Little Creatures Dining Hall

Never mind next time

tried the James Squire pils yet anyone?

Went to the James Squire Bar down in Docklands in Melbourne a few weeks ago .... mind you it was a Sunday evening but they begrudgingly kept the bar open at 8ish for an hour or so for few of us ... and the cook had gone home so no meals

They had been busy a bit earlier ... the local churchgoers have their service in a room in the place every Sunday evening .... no church down Docklands way yet

Barman said probably only pays it way when there is something on down at Ettiad

Completely opposite at Little Creatures in Fitzroy a few nights later .... place really humming

Go Little Creatures .... go LWB ..... cmon Kirrin ... pay the $3 and take over the rest of it

Doing so well the last profit announcement only went for a couple of paragraphs ..... and price now over 250

Pity few on sale for you guys but you should start accumulating

Shareholders can't go wrong .... Lion / Kirrin will see to that

Went to Shed 5 the other night .... Little Creatures Pale Ale on the drinks list .... $11.50 a bottle ... yep $11.50 a bottle .... and the barman said he gets through a bit of the stuff

Hope LWB make a decent cut at that price ... ha ha

$11.50 sounds a tad steep, regardless of how good the beer is

LWB still going OK ... going ahead with a $60m bewery in Geelong is a big step

Still patiently waiting for Lion/Kirrin to offer $5 plus to take out the minorities.

Soemtimes these little boutigue breweries grow into big brands ... and sometimes they then lose some of their magic and personality and all that sort of stuff.

Still great beer though but found an even better one in Melbourne the other night .... the waiter at Gingerboy talked us into trying a Doss Blockos ... great stuff and the story behind it is even more magical. Would even sell my LWB to take a decent interest in this company .... on the agenda next trip to try to catch up with the operators

Who would have thought of serving bottles of beers in a paper bag at a posh restaurant ... thats the essence of this brand ... and the product better than OK as well

Had to be patient though .... Lion (presumably) were always wiling to buy mine at market But one had to wait for the big premium

Good luck to them ....... As long as they don't stuff up the beer.

Might need to sus out those guys in Melbourne with the bottles in a paper bag ... They might be keen on a new partner - Doss Blockos is good stuff and they might be the next real deal

LWB never to be seen on the bourse again .... last trade $5.28 and the $5.30 comes in a few weeks

Japanese got it for a steal .... maybe .... but like FPA the big payday is when somebody with big pockets sees some value in a company that the the company itself would never have been able to extract themselves

Thats the way that markets operate .... and well done they guys who took the risk years ago and started brewing stuff they had no idea whether punters would like or not .... but they had a vision and did things a new way and put some fun into it.

Still might sound out these Doss Blockos guys .... nice beer marketed in a different way which could take off big time
