I have just joined today but have been reading this Forum for years, I am a 17 year old student from Wellington - I love share trading and have made a bit of money. Would like some advise for current sort term shares ? Thanks Guys for you time. Regards James Anderson.

No-one on this site will give you tips on any particular shares, but will offer advise on HOW to find good stocks and time you entry/exit. Have a look aroud in the "newbies" section, heaps of info there.

Do you mean short term? Just making sure?

So your more technical than fundamental?

Hey James,

Good on you for reaching out but as Wbosher says - you're probably not going to get share buy tips.

At 17, you have a lot more of something that many of us have less of - time. Use this to your advantage. What does the end game look like - financially independent with sustainable income to allow you to retire at a young age? Overseas travel, flash cars..... At this stage in your life - there's a risk that you'll mistake the share market as an easy way to make money and treat it like a casino. If that's that case - you'll win some & you'll lose some but I suspect the latter will be more the way it goes unless you start to become proficient at technical analysis. Even then there are no guarantees but at least you'll be better equipped to make buy/sell decisions. Apologies if that's not you - it was not intended to be a condescending comment.

My advice to you as someone 40+ years your senior is not to rush. Remember, time is your friend. By all means, have some fun but learn as you go - read, read, read. If you aren't already - start paying yourself 10% of what you earn before paying anyone else. Learn the power of compounding and the rule of 72. Read, Read, Read......(did I already say that?). Learn to ask good questions - there are some very knowledgeable people on here with a wealth of trading and investing experience who will likely share some of that with you.

You've already got some experience and mention that you've made some money. Analyse this. How did you pick the stocks you invested in? How did you know when to buy and then when to sell? If it was pure luck - then you're probably in the casino.

Happy trading/investing

James dateline says he wrote his post 6 years ago.....Yes, this could be a fairly drawn out process, Hoop.
Do we await a response from James in 2022 or just flag it away?:)

Yes they will! But they are probably pumping the share because they want to sell. ;)

I trust this is not an oblique reference to certain NZ companies that have been slow to develop.:)

You are either flushed with excitement at a certain company's prospects or you think its gone down the dunny. Could you be more specific--- or sensitive, I forget which.
Its been so long.
