Management Summary:

Entries close at midnight, Sunday 19th December

For the rest of us who read the detail:

Welcome to the NZX Share Investing Competition for 2011! Time to remind all NZer's that a healthy economy requires healthy capital markets and a healthy capital market requires interested participants. Supporting the NZ capital markets is not just a way to make money, it is your patriotic duty! :D

Okay, and now back to the making money part...

... this competition is the elite of the elite...you are required to hone your investment skills down to the study of a tiny pool of shares i.e. those listed on the NZSX or NZAX and with a market cap of greater than $10m at time of entry. You are required to select just the five creme de la creme of this limited pool, in the aim of achieving maximum financial return within the 2011 year.

As with 2010, entry prices will be at the first-traded price from the day following you posting your selection, so you can start entering at any time. End prices will be as determined as last traded price on Friday 16th December 2011.

Otherwise, rules are:
*Pick 5 shares with listing on the NZX and each will be given equal weighting
*No picks with market cap below $10m will be accepted. Nor shares in suspension.
*Cash can be selected and will be entered at the National Bank, 1yr term deposit rate (non-compounded, qtrly interest).
*Dividends and rights issues will be accounted for but not spp's.
* Takeovers and suspensions (and any other whims) handled at my discretion.

Entries close at midnight, Sunday 19th December

Queries and comments welcome.

As the most boring entrant, time to trot out some familiar tickers...

RBD, SCT, SKC, TEL, TUA

SNOOPY

p.s. Forced to drop PGW from my yield strategy five, because there is little chance of a dividend next year. I should clarify here the thinking behind my share investment strategy is that many share investors are very fixated on share price and underestimate the boost that dividends can give to their investment returns. Equally it is very unlikely that I will win this competition based on doing well via dividends. However, I think I can demonstrate that by using a low turnover strategy (that means changing no more than one portfolio entry per year on average) which means holding shares for on average 5 years, you can achieve an upper quartile investment return over 5 years and it would seem beat the index quite handsomely.

Thanx Liz for running the 2011 comp (not too mention the 2010 one)

My picks:

CAV - Looking to benefit from the Chch earthquake
FBU - Looking to benefit from the Chch earthquake & leaky homes
IFT - Energy/Utility play, full year of Shell results, & expect good results/growth from TPW, better overseas airport numbers?
NWC - Still trading well below NTA, & could rebound as the sector is currently in a down cycle (over supply, drought etc)
RBC - Exposure to the $US, & any corporate activity with Tenon

Cheers

HGD(market cap currently 9,963,042 ? so can i have it?)

Hi ScrappyO,

I imagine (based on last year) there will be a few who want to pick HGD. So I will accept it, but only at an entry price of 2.9cps or higher - if the entry price would normally have been lower based on the rules, you will be allocated 2.9cps starting point. :)

Hi Liz.
Why nothing under 10mil?

I would imagine most of those companies would be penny dreadfuls, & the share price is open to manipulation by buying a small parcels close to the end of the comp.

Hi Liz.
Why nothing under 10mil?

$10m is only a "mark in the sand", but aims to put the focus on stock-picking rather than gambling. It also helps to keep it more "real" in that many of the very small cap stocks could not actually be acquired in any useful amounts.

I'm going defensive if I've gotta hold for a whole year.

NPX - demand for resins from Auto market increasing. Will benefit from any upturn.
SKC - quite a few prospects including Convention Centre in Auckland.
SKT - online viewing is here and SKT are first of the post. TEL may uncap data for them and ditch Tivo.
WHS - xmas madness and back to school figures will be telling.
PLU - $11.8m market cap. my longshot. Customers switching to Pulse at increasing numbers. 20-25% more per month. http://www.ea.govt.nz/industry/market/statistics-reports/number-of-icps-per-retailer-per-nsp/

that sucks abit Liz,
By opening up the competition early you are allowing CUE's Artemis well to majorly factor in the outcome of this competition...
There will be two majorly different prices...
The price with Artemis, the price without...

If we get a December rally as some pundits are predicting it may pay to enter early. But on the other hand..........?

Here goes

BTU - on the strength of developments as the Buller project progresses.
CUE - because I like its diverse interests.
EBO - still a great performer.
GPG - light in that tunnel at last?
NPX - doing nicely despite a sluggish world economy.

Thanks again, Lizard.

Put me down for:
XRO - continued growth next year, and catching the eye of more institutions (attracting attention from NZ and offshore).
BLT - heading towards maiden profit next year, new products, new markets, Costco/RiteAid revenue now coming in.
PGW - big player in big sector, balance sheet sorted out in 2010; 2011 = year of recovery?
WDT - don't own this one, but surely it can't go much lower!! Should get back to 4 cents at least. Surely! (famous last words?).
FBU - solid performer, steady stream of sizeable projects.

Lizard
07-12-2010, 09:35 PM
...but for all of us that follow you every move...

Haha, percy. I would hope there aren't any!

I'm not feeling too confident this year. I am fairly frantic of late and my five were all picked from the shortlist of shares that my valuations were most up to date on. I'm hoping it is a "low risk" approach, having tried to find shares that seem to have a better than even chance of beating prior year during the next two reporting seasons. Also looked for lowish P/E and prefer not too much currency exposure - exception is TEN which is likely to be the most risky. TEN also has some risk around the CNIFP case - hoping not too much is built in for this if the recent decision gets reversed on appeal.

CCC was on my short-list, but I was worried about complexity of currency exposures and possible other project/capex/financing issues that make me feel less certain they won't decide to raise capital (though I actually think they should do an spp about now, but that wouldn't be so good for a pick!). FPA was passed over as think it is still risky and more of a 2012 story. TUR is probably more of a 2012 story, but there is a bit more of a buoyant feel to the stock of late (nothing concrete though) and they should still be heading the right direction - I did consider holding them via GPG and getting exposure to Capral, Coats and Tower at a discount, but felt less certain about that option.

Overall, I think I will probably be happy to achieve the same modest 10-20% as RRR is aiming for.

On a separate note, welcome to Under Surveillance. I hope you (and others with longer pen names), won't mind if I shorten your name for the results table... for some reason there seems to be a maximum number of characters before the whole results table formatting becomes skewed!

I will post the selections up once I have input them all soon after the 19th, so please make sure you all come back and check your entry has been recorded correctly!

Good to see some more entries. Some interesting choices and seems to be more variety in the picks than last year, as already, we have exceeded the number of different stocks chosen. Also good support for the NZX50 blue chips this year. It looks like the ST top 5 could be a vastly different mix to last year (probably a good thing given the dismal performance in 2010).

I note that anyone who wants to pick WDT may need to pick it soon... if it goes below 1.5cps, it is going to fall below the $10m limit. (This is not a recommendation - looking rather precarious if the rights issue fails!).

We have 45 entries so far by my tally, so keep them rolling and see if we can beat last years 67 :)

So far we have 56 entries and 75 different stock picks. This compares with last year where we had 67 entries and 67 stocks.

Keep those entries coming! Already some contestants have picked up some dramatic moves so we should be off to an interesting start.

Entries close midnight this Sunday (19th), so don't be late as I don't want to offend anyone (it is quite time-consuming to add in late-comers using my clunky spreadsheet method).

and no room for PPL

A bit like the DOGS OF THE NZX list .... common among them management who have no idea ow to be successful ... but at least they have aspirations

didn't perform too badly overall in 2010 so expect much the same in 2011 .... but you never know these might companies might perform miracles and see their misplaced dreams burst into reality

Bugger, it's been a good month and I've missed on a few gains already! :(

BTU - Interesting coal play which should either be a winner or a loser if they don't achieve what they set out to do. (I'm young - I can gamble :D :D)
MHI - I don't like their watches but they seem to do well. US may turn?
PPP - Basically cash backed to market cap and hoping for they will pull something off. Vietnam details too?
CUE - Exciting end to the fourth quarter 2011 'could' make this prime for BESBS again with Catarina-1 and Matariki-1 scheduled to be drilled.
WDT if you will take into account the issue given we already know it's going to happen? Otherwise...EBO - Well run and seems consistent performer?

Yes, U_U, I will take into account the rights issue - not ex-rights yet.

My approach is to presume "no new money", so enough shares can be sold on market the day after ex-rights to exercise rights and calculate accordingly.

Spp's are too difficult, as depends on presumed size of holding as to relative effect and therefore have to ignore.

I am not yet sure how I am going to handle PGC bank spin-off - but will attempt to keep it as fair as possible.

Here is the draft list! Please check your tickers and assigned entry prices.

Note that HGD will have been allocated at 2.9cps (as mentioned previously) as being the approx "$10m market cap" share price under which it is permitted. Those shares without an entry price have not yet traded post-submission and should be allocated a price soon.

Any errors, omissions or queries, please post or PM me!

For interest, it looks like the top 5 picks will be NZO, CUE, FBU, SKC, IFT ....

Seeing NZO there is not unusual... seeing the likes of FBU and SKC on there must be?!

...and so you can see if your timing helped or hindered, here is current "starting" positions based on today's closing prices. Fantastic work by Bohemian in picking up 8% already, with good gains on SCT and SKL. Nevl will also be happy with his low, low entry into WDT (1.7cps), giving him a good leg up so far.

Note that those with HGD will be affected by the "minimum start price" of 2.9cps that applied to this pick and therefore puts it considerably underwater at current last-traded price of 2.1cps.

For those picks not yet traded (other than HGD), the model currently presumes they entered at current "last traded" price. The entry price will update once the shares trade.

I picked WDT in the competition and thought the price was 22 cents when I entered but you have put it in at 28 cents. I see Belgarion has it at 22 cents and he entered the day after me.

Hi Rabcat,

Thanks for taking the time to check! :)

The price of WDT was falling quite quickly over those few days. Finding good historical data is not simple - Yahoo Finance rounds up, so doesn't help. However FT charts shows a close, open, high and low. According to this source, WDT traded in the range 2.6cps - 3.5cps on the day you picked it (the 6th Dec), closing at 2.6cps. As in the rules, you were giving the next opening price, being 2.8cps. WDT then continued falling to close at 2.1cps that day.

If you are able to find another data source that disagrees, then let me know and I will reconsider.

Nevl was able to gain a substantial advantage over other WDT entrants by picking up an entry at 1.7cps! However, all participants are likely to get the same rights issue adjustment - so that should even them out a little more.

There is only ever two important people in a competition: The winner and the loser; so therefore I am one of the important people.
I might just spit my dummy out, throw the toys from the cot and focus all of my energy on the real comp (the ASX one) Nah, just kidding, I can only go up.

Thanks for all of your efforts last year, I found it entertaining. Merry Christmas all

P.S. I will get you this year Yankiwi

Lizard.

Where do PGW holders stand if they are taken over ??

Can they re-invest ??

Not that I have them in my picks.. Will admit to a very very minor holding..

Below is an update on performance heading into Christmas - there will not be a December month end update.

Nevl will be very pleased with a spectacular sprint out of the blocks. Winner should be comfortable with his "dogs of the NZX". ShareTrader average is in positive territory although the Top 5 are laggards.

Everwood, I am sorry, but I am unable to add you into the competition at this stage. There is considerable time involved in back-adding additional contestants once the spreadsheet is completed and I have not had the time. I hope you are able to enter the ASX comp which continues to allow entrants to end of Jan :)

Janners, I think the offer for PGW will be a partial takeover and therefore it is likely the listed price will continue to be the price used. In the event of a full takeover for any share, the most likely scenario is that the takeover price becomes the final price. If a takeover reaches 90% compulsory acquisition mark prior to end of September, I may also add an approximate interest return, presuming that the proceeds were reinvested on term deposit until December. Confirmation of any details to be given at the time!

Yeah, I've been following these for the last few years and I'm not surprised with their cumulative result- they always seem to be the best of the brokers.

For the purposes of the competition, the WDT rights issue has resulted in adjustment gain of $0.0095 per share. This presumes that an equivalent number of shares are sold at first traded price ex-rights (i.e. 2.2 cps). As the issues is 1:1 and the rights can be taken up at 1.25cps, there is a gain of 0.95cps (treated equivalent to a dividend).

... and a quick mid-month update.

Good to see ST'er's managing to start the year in positive territory. Strong results for those punting on WDT so far and picking up the rights adjustment.

Have not had the time to add in the broker picks, though may be possible later.

That's a big call there whatsup!

Given the approx 70m of $1 shares they are planning to issue for the purchase of agricultural assets would have to double in value for the current shares to be worth 0.2cps ($2 post consolidation).

(and, sorry, am not adding anyone to the comp now.)

Time for the January update already! Nevl still looking strong there with his head start on WDT entry price, while Ponda has picked himself up from the bottom with a nice run on CHA.

Both BTU and WDT have provided some good returns. Other share performances worthy of mention include DIL, XRO, NZR, WTL, PGW and KMD.

Divs included this month are for TWR and ABA. Please advise if there are any others I've missed or capital reconstructions/issues other than WDT rights issue (already allowed for).

Did you include ABA's 1:4 share cancellation at $5.23?

No, I missed that - thanks DS!

Not sure of the most logical way to handle that, as if I just presume $5.23 was paid out, then have to also presume that the holder only has 3/4 of their original holding remaining, so less exposure to gains and losses. I think in this case I will work on the basis that the same number of shares as paid out were immediately repurchased on open on the 17 January at $4.88, so a one-off gain of 35c/4 or 8.75cps.

This will move ziggy up 2 places to no. 77.

(Sigh) I was there once Misty, but I have managed to crawl up five places. Trust me., there was so much less pressure to bear when you're at 100. As you say you can only go up from here yet I am at great risk of sleepless nights fearing declining AGAIN.

Hmmm, it appears airedale and myself have 3/5 of the same picks.
He has lower entry prices on two of them, which means it is difficult to catch up!
I kept my entry to the day of closing of the 2010 comp...I can then annualise the returns :t_up:
First month isn't looking too bad on a ST average front being in positive by 2.4%.

First month isn't looking too bad on a ST average front being in positive by 2.4%.

True, though I'd argue that the mean of 2.4% isn't a particularly good indicator of "average" performance (skewed as it is by some of the particularly strong results - yours included).

The median at 1.4% is probably a better guide (half did better; half did worse). The good news is that 70% of punters were in positive territory with their picks.

upside_umop

You could argue it either way Voltaire.

If you were to construct a 'sharetrader index' it would be based off average so you could compare to the applicable index 'nzx50.'

It is also difficult to determine the nzx50 start date for a benchmark given the entry dates vary.

Voltaire

Agreed, it was a quibble. I was really making the point that in a "competition", competitors tend to be interested in their relative performance against their peers and that the median is a useful benchmark for that.

The mean would be of great interest if, at the end of the year, we agreed to share out the proceeds of our collective efforts ... but I'm guessing that situation won't be arising this side of a blue moon

Anyway, I'm very grateful to Lizard for all the work running this and likewise for the efforts in collation and presentation ...

Sigh....I'm 42nd which is I suppose is better than average...but I hate average oh how I wish I could quit my selection of that horrible flea ridden dog NZO and install Cape Lambert CFE in Australia like I did in my real porfoliio. Still I suppose I should be happy, its better to have done it in real life, (up 36% in two months) than in the competition :)

Maybe a transtasman selection comp next year LIz or would the maths on that be too hard ?

Thanks again for the compiling Lizard. Looks like you missed the dividend of 1.935 CPU from GMT paid on 24 March. I can't afford to miss out on it with the woeful results so far :)

Oops, sorry - the divs for CAV and GMT are actually in there, but I missed writing them into my list. May be a few others as I did not get time to double check the list which was mostly written a few weeks ago... I appreciate any queries on divs and cap reconstructions, as the only way I can get these now days is to manually check the lists of all company announcements.

Thought I'd better slip in an Easter update as may miss month end next week if I can't find a handy wi-fi connection and a spare half hour up in the north.

I thought this might be a tough year for investors, so interesting to note that top places are already edging up towards the winning results of last year...

Also notice that the 2010 top 5 are performing pretty well again so far this year - up 24.7% and beating all but the top 3 posters... seems like a pretty good demo for "let your profits run" - at least for now.

Have a good Easter to all. :)

Thanks for the update.I am just so happy to be ahead of winner69's dogs. lol.

Winners dogs are doing OK .... remember drillie and others reckon that the market is going to tank soon .... and then as most stocks go down with the falling ride the dogs will do OK as they can swim against the tide.

I take inspiration from that dog they found floating on the debris of the wreckage many days after the Japanese tsunami

Your inspirational dogs have me greatly worried.I was just starting to think they were looking in such bad shape, the only humane thing to do was get the Vet to put them down.I can see more restless nights for me,fear of very loud barking from your dogs as they come back to life, and go onto great things. The only way out or hope I have to stop your dogs may require me using the shootgun . !!!!!

Nearly to month end and I know you're all champing at the bit to see how it goes... here's a preview, though we've yet to see PGC go ex-in-specie. Not many common elements in the top 10 this year - which is making this a real competition to watch!

Have added in the SPY consolidation and most of the divs (KIP still to go ex I think). Will update later in the week if I'm not hibernating.

Picked what I thought were five dogs (one of which I actually owned at the time!) and I am sitting in the middle on a 4.0% gain.

Admittedly I would have done better picking the 4 property trusts I have a paw in (5.8% gain plus dividends)

My real life holdings (FBU, IFT, MFT, NZX, RYM) would see me in the top 5, but I did not enter them. :mad ;:

I never win first division either, even when I buy a ticket ! :p

best wishes

Go on janner make some comment.. I can take it ... it was a bit of a misunderstanding with Lizard at the time ... I thought it it was all about who could pick the worst portfolio

I have complete confidence that the dogs of the NZX will come right when things get tough for the high fliers .... my only regret is that I left I had to toss up between FPA and PPL and FPA won .... as it has turned out Pumpkin patch has been a real dog ... bugger

Won't speak for Belg though .... he may had the same imisunderstanding

Okay, final placings for May, including PGC in-specie distribution of BSH and recap of SPY. In the case of PGC, the comp will presume that holders continue to hold both PGC and BSH in new ratios.

Interesting to see that simply picking last years best performers in the comp would have achieved 3rd place!

Why are you expecting the next few months to be hard on WDT? I'm expecting WDT to be my saviour, since RBC dropped me down the list. Looking forward to an update at the annual meeting, which should later this month. Interesting to see that Under S. is leading the competition with five sensible picks. ie- no pennydreadfuls, no speculative stocks and no resource stocks.

How do the indexes compare? Does this explain the discrepancy?
Sorry, I don't follow the ASX at all. Nor do I know the going deposit rates :)

But perhaps my general cluelessness explains my boundless success in this competition.

I just found it interesting that the participants in the NZX competition were (at this point in time) doing much better than the participants in the ASX. Why? Who knows. Could be any number of factors which will probably differ from person to person. If one was to draw any conclusions it would be that most people cant pick a winner(s) to save themselves..especially regards ASX stocks. With a 1 year bank deposit rate of approx 4.6% they would have been better off sticking it in the bank. I realize that this a SHARE TRADER forum not a bank deposit forum, but I hope that real life performances are better than the "play " performance. Yes I know its easy to "criticise" ...but not really criticising more interested in what do people ACTUALLY make/lose share trading. Anyone care to share? Ps Dark sentinel..someones got to be last and I'm sure that will inspire you to climb out of your "cluelessness". When you start getting it youre growth curve will look spectacular.

Yes I know its easy to "criticise" ...but not really criticising more interested in what do people ACTUALLY make/lose share trading. Anyone care to share?

Personally I don't trade and do hold all of those shares I have entered in the competition. So my competition result is a pretty good measure of how I am really doing. Of course I do own other NZX shares and if I take all of those into account I may drop a percentage point or so on my competition result. But generally WYSIWYG (or more correctly what I get) with me.

Thanks for sharing...very satisfactory results and I would be very pleased to be getting them myself....is it "time in the market" or "timing in the market" do you suppose? As a buyer and holder are you buying for consistant dividends or are you buying for fundamental reasons or both? And of course the BIG question over your "career" how has your percentage fared overall. I am happy to accept your kind offer of WYSIWYG. :-)

Basically I am looking for companies that can pay a consistent dividend return, and I invest from a 'value investment' perspective.

The longer you hold shares the more it becomes 'time in the market' rather than timing the market. However what re-balancing I do, I think has added to my returns. I have already sold down my SCT shares by about 25% in anticipation of the upcoming cash issue. My average sale price was about $1.45. So with the new shares being sold for $1.20 it should work out well for me, even though that little bonus won't show up in my competition results. However I have probably undone that good deed by topping up my CEN holding at around $5.90. So this is a case of timing 'swings and roundabouts' . The problem with traders is that they usually only tell you about their successes. They don't mention their losses! Of course taking a multi year perspective I still think those CEN shares that I bought at $5.90 will prove a good buy.

Because I have a multiyear investment return horizon, I have imposed an extra rule on myself when taking part in this competition. I am not allowed to change more than one share per year in my competition entry. (Last year PGW went out and SCT came in). That means my average holding time from this competition perspective is five years. So any leakage of my results into broker commissions is minimized.

Over the previous five years I have averaged a 6% return after tax. That doesn't sound so great until you realise that the market has declined on average 2% per year over the last five years. So my outperformance had been 8% per year which I was very happy with.

My 3-4 years before that were not so good compared to the market. I think I was trailing the index by a couple of percentage points per year. But that was when the market was so called booming, so my actual return was still O.K.. Since the booming stopped I have in relative terms done much better. But that is to be expected when you invest from a 'value investment' perspective.

Bit lost with that one Liz. Does this mean that HNZ movements are included in PGC?

Yes. Sorry, all holders will be showing the PGC ticker still, but this reflects both PGC and HNZ prices now.

Thanks Snoopy, as a new entrant into the world of shares and bonds, its great for me to see people people with some success showing that conservative and carefull investing can be and still is a viable method. Looking at all the threads for gold, oil and gas and minerals its easy lose sight of the value of a considered approach. I will be looking forward to entering the competition when its time.

I'd love to shed TEN! The forex rate doesn't seem likely to ever make this one stack up and the attempt at a break-out has well and truly failed...I'm somewhat relieved they've re-negotiated their debt facility, as was starting to worry that it might crash and burn altogether...

Have to agree Liz. Just an idea for next year's comp, maybe allow the flexibility to shed one and acquire another, or maybe double down on an existing winner at the half way point ? (One change and only on 30 June). Perhaps reflects the minimum of what most people would do in their portfolio. To hard to administer or maybe a possibility ?

Hey, well Roger, I think that will have to be an idea for someone else... I give advance warning that I don't intend to run this comp again next year. :)

My IT skills are confined to mid-range Excel skills, so the set-up on this comp takes the best part of a day and changing picks during the course of the year would probably more than triple the time I spend on running it after that. But, yes, nice idea.

yes thanks for this years efforts Liz I certainly don't have the IT skills hopefully someone steps up...

I'm not sure round the legal side of things but would back it if the ASX NZX comps were set-up by ST admin to have a entry fee with prizes to the top 3 etc
Now I'm not talking much $5 etc to enter with a part going to the running costs ,the prizes could well be not cash etc
Geez if JBMTrading has another good year I be even keen to sponsor some funds towards it

Hey,
My 2c: not sure I approve of this, simply because some people (I think Snoopy admitted to this) hold some, or a lot, of the shares they used for their entry. So for those people, if their portfolio takes a hit, they're also not going to win, or, vice-versa, if they win the competition then they might also have reaped a handsome profit as well.

This of course has nothing to do with the fact that I clearly suck at picking stocks. Nothing at all *whistles and strolls off*.

yeah I hold 4-5 of my ASX picks an If I was too invest in the NZX I'd be buying at least 4 of the shares I have picked for the NZX comp...
-I don't understand why anyone would only pick stocks they don't hold or know much about...It's all about walking the talk IMHO
-just an idea or we may well not have a comp as like Liz has stated it's a bit work involved
-Ones that don't approve don't have to join in of course just like if we didn't have a comp.
-I'm sure if you are a share investor/trader $5 wouldn't break the bank geez to trade a share costs me $19aud on E*trade
-when I mean win we'll talking $100-$150 value voucher ,paper plus voucher etc not thousands or should we be utra NZ PC and the worst picks win

I was thinking of it more in terms of a state of mind thing, rather than actually breaking the bank.

Could try putting up a poll at the end of the year, although either way need to find someone to run the thing.
Maybe we can somehow divide the workload across multiple people?

Thanks for being so patient! Here are the July results... amazingly, the ShareTrader average is exactly 0% for the year to date... oh dear. I'm afraid most of us are going to have to stick to the day jobs for a while longer! (And for some of you, let's hope your day job is not in Financial Advice!)

Nevl is back in the lead, despite WDT doing it's best to let him down... CHA has been a big push for 3 of our top 5.

And Troy... did I miss a share split somewhere?? http://www.aussiestockforums.com/forums/images/smilies/headshake2.gif

Only div I have for this month is ZIN. The rights issue for SCT is allowed for with a bonus of 2.5cps which I calculated was the gain per share if rights/equivalent shares were sold at open once allocated.

Yep. If you feel inclined. Liking the excitement. At least this time I have a pile of cash. Just got to keep off the buy button. Nearly achieved that today. Just couldn't help myself with the Aussie market recovering from 4% down to .7% up.

Okay, here's the update. Another 2.7% off the average today...pretty much in line with the move on the NZX of -2.75%

There are quite a few where the last-trade price was outside the bid-offer spread, so you should know that where that is the case, I use either the bid or offer price, depending on which is closest to last trade.

Hoping the finish on the ASX will make this the low point for the NZX as well - at least for now.

Phew, bit of a bounce back from earlier in the month. :)

Good result from evander, moving into number 2 spot.

For CHA holders, you have now been assigned the compulsory acquisition price. As the takeover has succeeded with more than 3 months to run, you will be assigned one quarter of interest income from term deposit at 4%... however, this is adjusted for the fact that holdings have typically risen by 150%, so you will get allocated 2.5cps interest income in December.

Dividends for this month are:

Any other divs or capital adjustments, please advise.

Troy, what are you doing down there? Just a bit below me at 89, but we are in fairly esteemed company, Belgarion et al..
Do not fear, OGC will get us back to the correct half of the table by the end of the year?

Thanks for the update Liz.
