Not that it matter much but position wise, I have gone from being in 20th position to 22nd, to 17th, to now 55th spot.

i bought ser a couple of weeks ago at 17ish i think and was stopped out at 13.5 on a spikedown. i was really annoyed at that because i had a well protected stop loss.
i havn't bought in again but it is cheap. how low will it go?
japan up 5% as i type today, asx200 up .9%. i get this off of stockmaster.ind, they give out live quotes for somee of the indicies, commodities etc.

LOL classic Liz and who better to know this theory being true other than you :)

I wouldn't mind this style except the periods with very little movement and holding such stocks for long periods of time without any or little movement would slowly kill me. (or make rich or potentially unaffected)

rules are the same as last year with exception of end date for entries because i remember being late with my entry last year and it was accepted about 1/2 way through january and i was so way not the last. i will make the deadline the end of jan 2011 no exceptions. late is any time in jan, too late is after jan 31 2011. on time is any time before the first trading day on the asx.

i have copied last years rules:

no stocks under 1c will be accepted..
Dividends will not be added to return...
takeovers will result in a new pick to the contestant, at the adjusted rate with new picks made quarterly...
5 stock picks only...
no options etc...
each stock pick will have a weighting of $10,000 (20% of portfolio)... ($50,000 in total for portfolio)...
so performance can be posted in percentage returns, and/or $ returns...
As I do not follow all stocks, Competitiors will be required to notify me of any change to specific stock selections, shall they change...(takeovers,stock spilts etc)...

the basic deal-Argent shareholders on the record date of 1 April 2011 will participate in the inspecie distribution of
US Nickel shares at a ratio of approximately 0.53 US Nickel shares for each Argent share held
I just did a rough .50 or for every 2 ARD shares I would recieve 1 USN share
As of the start of the comp for 10k I would have 57143 ARD @ 17.5c

So I guess from the latest numbers I didn't get my inspecie distribution of 28,500 USN shares added to my pick of 57,143 ARD has lost a major asset (which dropped the SP from 22c down to 15c) As I setup a watchlist with the 5 shares I picked and now added the free USN shares as of today I'm up at 44.15%
I do understand from day one that dividends cannot be added(so no-one picks yeild plays) but this is a company that swaped a major asset for shares if not included it doesn't give a true account of my 5 picks.

AYN & MLA are both up over 200%, others are negative & expect more from them, esp DGR come Armour Energy IPO time, OEL if the BHP deal goes ahead should double, & ACB got smashed in the Japan/Uranium fallout, might take til 2012 for Uranium to recover the spot price is falling

On the Silver thread i posted 12/12/10 -what i thought silver would do during 2011 & thats why i choose AYN, i reminded Skol who thought it was "luck".

Correct. Assumption [mine] that 'if this were year end' then this would be the result. I am sure you will be flying higher [at -5.109% 68th position] if the assumption that the 36.9% increase by ZYL at last reported return on 19th April were taken into account.

I think that it is interesting Birmanboy. My simple answer is that a lot of competitors in the ASX have micro and small caps with far greater volatility than the competitors choices in the NZX. NZX is limited in the number of shares whereas the ASX is almost unlimited. I have not checked last years results but I am guessing that the average performance of the ASX competitors v. NZX competitors was greater as the small caps had a reasonable rally...could be way off the mark though.

Agreed that life cycle is important re risk apetite. The ASX comp is run a little different to the NZX - for example, I see the NZX includes dividends in total return but te ASX does not. No excuses though.

What is also interesting is that Seagull is heading up the ASX comp with +38% or something and I see he is 86th or so at -4% in the NZX comp. Not sure what it tells us but it is interesting.

It really is amazing to see how badly our bluechips have stacked up. Take a 10 year look at the likes of Mac Bank, Brambles, Lend lease, Amcor, Toll, Qantas, QBE, IAG, AMP etc. All very, very depressing.

I really wonder if Australia has more than half a dozen true blue chips. True blue chips are companies the likes of McDonalds, Dow Chemicals, Apple, Microsoft, Colgate Palmolive etc...and we don't have anything like them.

dont be silly. why would i buy into any, i might be in danger of making some money lol.

i actually did make a wee bit on trh but i sold way too early. i have waited for a pull back since. it has turned so my wait shouldnt be for too long. they start drilling this month.
cgm is another one that is a wee bit like cvr in that they are starting producing gold. they are in brazil and the gold is narrow vein/high grade, a different sort of goldfield. cgm and cvr should do well over the next 6 months.
i was put off cvr earlier in the year when they did that humungus dilution at 3.5c. all that should have worked through by now. today might be a good day to buy in after friday nights fiasco(dow).

what a completely rubbishy market. i think the yanks have found a new worry to supplant the greece worry which is a downturn in average wages/salary of american workers which, in turn means less demand for goods and services.
this is the smart money driving markets down to get real bargains. they are able to do this because they can pump the sentiment thus exaggerating any negativity around. it feeds on itself.
you get to the bottom when they can not do this any more. when that will be, who knows. they have to run out of worries.

Jenny, 53% of the comp entrants are > (greater than) a -20% so no doubt there is a bunch of sad people on this thread.

If we rewind the playback of the year, we will see the Greek Crisis and Middle Eastern up-rises bring risk to many stocks which have been dumped. Plus some sectors also being shaken so there are some sectors which are in the dark atm which may take longer, but that is the funny thing about comps, things could suddenly or drastically change without much warning and then its another shakeup in the rankings.
