Put this up on the NZX Stock Screening thread a few days ago, but it's really more suited to the ASX side. Came across the ASXIQ web-site... for those who like to find their own stocks from scratch.

Have been having a play amongst all the tabs and buttons. Reckon there is probably a strategy or two buried in there if you can combine the right couple of screens at the right time. Anyway, just deserves a thread... great resource.

Great Link there Liz, Thanks for sharing this :)

Would also be interested in what attributes amongst that site you look for or how you choose a criteria for making a selection towards narrowing down candidate stocks for either trading or investing. (actually meaning for the fundamental scans that is)

Thnx again, top post.

Hi Drillfix

Depends a bit which portfolio I'm wanting to find stocks for. The type of thing that usually works for me is small-cap, neglected, cash generating, cheaper, growing, dividend paying, with sound management and in an expanding sector without too much forex risk.

Can't tell much about the last three from the stats, but can screen or check for all of the first 6 at once on here using the custom screener. Probably wouldn't bother to screen for "neglected" (i.e. via maximum liquidity), as the other 5 screens will probably mean I'm more likely to end up looking at shares where too little liquidity is more of a concern.

Growth (i.e. via PEG) is only going to show up in an historical context, but some of the other screens like ROA and debt/equity will at least narrow it down to those that have the capacity to grow fast.

Just looking for a portfolio that requires returns split between income and capital gain, I've set market cap at <1000, avg vol >20k, div yield >4%, sales growth +ve, ROA > 15%, current ratio >1, debt/equity <0.5, payout ratio <75%.

Gives me SMX, AIR, LYL, NCK and SWL to look at for starters.

If I was looking for spec growth stocks, the fundamental screen would be tougher to use - maybe settings around Price/book and liquidity and sales growth for starters.

However, I note that not all the screens seem to be working (avg vol is one) and some screens don't have the most appropriate settings for ASX (e.g. price increments). As with most screeners, it won't always give you the best in category and it won't always be accurate, but it still looks like it is throwing up a few interesting shares.

Thanks again Liz, a Top Post indeed.

I never have thought about scanning like that, primarily as you know, I dont trade like that, however I love to hear about other peoples methods and how they go about their ways, and what works for them.

Any other people out there use this scanner as yet? C'mon people sound off, we know your out there :)

Cheers again Liz~!
