Just thinking...looking at RYM....over the past 5 years its SP has been generally up .. $1 to $5+.....and I believe just prior to this period RYM had a split 1 for 5...so what im curious about ...is this unprecendented....excluding of course the madness of the 80's....forgetting RYM for a moment ...has any other company performed similarily...and most importantly has it ended in tears ????.....

DIL ....accepted sorry

Yes you will be pleased to know you are not correct, as RYM's share price was not $1 but $1.62 the week of 7th April 2008 according to Yahoo charts.
Sorry did not see you were only referring to a 5 year period.

Share prices always catch up with value, as St Warren Buffett tells us.

Ryman will eventually morph from a growth company to that of a dividend cash cow. Of course, should Australia prove to be fertile grounds for expansion, then that cash cow phase is many years out into the future. Perhaps 20 years. Which means Ryman could keep on growing for another decade yet.

In that case we find ourselves "well positioned."
4 years ago the low was $1.24 on week Feb 23rd 2009.So it had fallen from the $1.62 a year earlier.[2008]

XRO around $1 in early 2009, recently traded at $11.60. Not sure how to factor in the 5 for 1 split but gaining $10.60 in 4 odd years would put it as one of the best growth companies on the NZX.

If Xero cannot return a profit it will end in tears I'd imagine.
(DISC I do not hold XRO)

Without looking at the charts, IFT has down well, at least until recent years.

Didn't PowerCo (PWC) do very very well in their day?,.... till we ('We' being the New Plymouth District Council and Egmont Electricity) sold this Golden Goose for a song to Aussie. I haven't backtracked to look at the exact figures, sorry.
