A global leader in the development and application of microscopic imaging technologies for medical markets (Basically a very miniature microscope that can be used in an endoscope inside the body to be used in neurosurgery, ears, nose and throat surgery (ENT) and spinal surgery etc)

THis allows real time visualisation of tissue at a cellular level leading to improved, earlier, minimally invasive diagnosis and treatment.

A huge amount of research has been undertaken over the last 20 years to develop and commercialise this product.

Now, after 20 years huge amount of R&D, Optiscan is approaching commercial sales with its rigid endomicroscopy system.

FY13 saw the sale of OIL's first pre-production rigid neuro-endomicroscopy systems to Carl Zeiss Meditec (CZM), one of its key development partners and #1 player in the field, (OIL are also partnered with Pentax).

This marks one of the key steps in the path to fully fledged commercial sales in the rigid clinical endomicroscopy space.

As Optiscan sales to CZM grow, the revenue mix will change from the initial systems to be more heavily weighted to disposable and semi-disposable items, with gross margins in excess of 50%.

Current market cap = $11m. (VERSUS THE MORE THAN $95M INVESTED OVER THE LAST 15 YEARS)

As the company says, an opportunity in relation to the market's "Realisation of the distinct company valuation anomaly, lookingforward, not back"

On the verge of commercialisation, all signs suggest that this represents a good opportunity to buy a company that has the opportunity to quickly scale revenues and profits over the next few years, offering a product that has now been accepted by the market and is strong demand.

Hi NZS - To answer your questions:

Market size : Independently assessed annual addressable markets of >$1bn withinthe $7bn (5% CAGR) medical endoscopy market

Key competitors: Mauna Kea Technologies - refer page 16 of the attached presentation, which compares OIL's technology vs Mauna Kea (in almost all of the dozen or so KPI , Optiscan is superior /far superior)

Yeh does look like a great medical tool, some nice technology to get microscopic imaging without biopsies and a traditional microscope.

To verify; they have two products Pentax ics 1000 and optiscan Five 1. Is optiscan five 1 the the product CZM is going to be buying and selling?

Have you been holding for long Steve?

Been pretty tough going for OIL with limited news flow over the past 6 months.

However now up 100% over the week on the back of a new OEM supply deal

Pretty illiquid stock, so will have big moves in either direction, but hopefully has a bit of momentum now

Hi Steve, was thinking about taking a position. Some nervous holders on HC - which may be a good thing :pSeems like a fair few at the end of their patience.

Could be worth a gamble on Gus and co securing a commercial agreement. Liquidity is a problem though..

Yeah things with OIL move very very slowly

seems to be a superior product, but no point having a great product if no one wants to buy it!

its either going to be one of those stocks that the h/c crew jump on and it will triple overnight on news of a sales agreement, or it will die a slow death at the hands of dilutionary share issues

Another Steve call comes good, hope you were in for this well done. I had a few, missed the excitement of the last few days and only just seen the action now! Wish I'd realised 14c-18c, but definitely cannot complain....

I never pulled the trigger on this. to me it looks like another classic 'red heart' pump on HC. wouldn't be surprised to see it settle back to 5-6c over the next month or two as the pumpers move on and until some real news is released

Good call. I sold at 10c a week ago. Could buy them back on market at 5.8c today - If they had more funds and closer timelines (inferred - they don't have any real timelines) then I would... Back on the watchlist

been fairly quiet on the OIL front for awhile from when I just about bought in late '14. The SP had settled sub 5c.

Nice announcement today (IMO) as it enhances chances of commercialisation and provides some much needed revenue. It limits the downside and upside a little, but really promising and a long overdue step in the right direction, espec for a company with approx 10m market cap!
