Interesting. Very Interesting.

Source?? Insider or someone in the investment community?

They hired a CFO last year and from memory, the job description did mention a possible listing.

I think its in the NBR print version

I think its in the NBR print versionIt does annoy me that an online sub doesn't get you all the news.

Online version only states:

In today’s National Business Review print edition, business editor Duncan Bridgeman lays out his top listing candidates, including a travel software company, a point-of-sale software maker and New Zealand’s largest private software exporter.
Sticking to the tech theme, editor-in-chief Nevil Gibson, in Margin Call, details how high growth stocks, led by Xero and Wynyard Group, are driving the NZX50 – and how investor caution on such opportunities can mean missing out on easy pickings.I do wonder if it is just wild speculation or justified. Assume they are referring to Serko, Vend and Orion?

Sam Morgan tweeted this yesterday. Not sure which ones he meant though:

I'm worried that 2014 in NZ portends too many new tech IPOs of dubious quality. Be careful out there.

If its Serko, Vend and Orion, they are decent businesses with revenues.

It's brilliant that arguably our foremost financial newspaper says things like ...Wynyard driving the NZX50... when it's not even in the NZX50 nor is it in the next 2 off the rank.

Quality.

And to top it all off, it's taking a nosedive.

I know a little about Serko and they are a good business.

Rumour is that they will list...Not sure if it makes it more or less likely but they just raised another $20m, in part from Thiels Valar Ventures - He is also an early investor in Facebook and Xero

In the Nat Programme early this morning that they are cashed up with todays placement which should last them 12 months and at that stage they will consider a listing. Hmmmmm !

Hmmmmm !That said that last time too. They raised $3m a couple of years ago and $8m last year, some of which was still in the bank. They seem to be following XRO playbook of raising larger amounts of funds before they need it to give themselves plenty of runway.

The capital raising builds on $NZ11 million raised in previous rounds. Vend founder and chief executive Vaughan Rowsell (http://www.brw.com.au/p/leadership/ceo_vend_founder_and_chief_executive_dl4BN04HZbZaC B5NmL5WTM) says the investment implies a company valuation higher than $NZ100 million, while the round 12 months ago valued the firm at $NZ30 million. He still owns about a quarter of the business.http://brw.com.au/p/investing/software_start_square_vend_completes_GLzNO7h71POjd TAcBQyWKJ

A quick skim of the companies office website suggests they raised the US$20m on a post money US$90m valuation which at current exchange rates, puts it just over $1m.

That's twice GEO current market cap, which at $1.95 is just under twice its pre IPO round which suggests Vend is clearly big enough to list in NZ.

Really nice to see this company do well. I think Lance Wiggs is involved with this company. He deserves a better 2014 after the disappointment over his Punakaki fund last year.

Looks like he cashed out a portion of his Vend investment in the latest round. He still holds alot though.

http://www.wired.com/2014/05/square-wants-to-give-your-business-money-before-you-even-ask-for-it/Yip. More so for Xero in my opinion. Xero have referred to big data before but haven't indicated how they would monetise all the aggregated information they hold.

It is a delicate issue as in theory, it isn't their data, but in the future, one click bank applications, or debt factoring seems to be obvious option (since it is customer initiated, not forced like a (say) insurance ad).

I also wonder if the P2P lenders good get access via an API to make the risk assessment instant.

Vend is different to Square in that Square does the transaction processing which they are taking advantage in this scheme to withhold a portion as loan payment. Vend is just a set monthly fee.

But yes, anywhere there is Big Data, there is potential.

Our business has been running this software for years. Great product.Tehy got a lot of cash at the start of this year which suggests they have enough cash at the moment. Will be interesitng to see if the next round is more VC or IPO. I would guess VC if the grow is still still there - why would VC share the investment with the common people.

Potential listing in 2015 may be.....Not sure about that - I think that is just a line for the media. If they think they can get to $100m in revenue, they will be able to get continued VC backing until such time as they can do a NASDAQ listing. Why bother with the NZX when you have VC willing to back you.
