Summary of article. Current market cap of $30m on rev of 18m. Profitable (but may want to push for growth? Hence the need for more capital).

Solid business, similar to Wynyard. Reliant on people to some extent (lots of customisation needed) so not sure about scaleability but a good product. Excellent customer base and already well established in the US.

What is more important with this company is to figure out if they still have an advantage over the competition. This is important because they are in data storage and moving towards the analytics space which is one of the hottest ICT fields.

SurferSteve will no doubt advise that their product is unsecure and that he has developed something much better in his spare time which he is currently testing. Plus it talks to him.

Well its interesting because I like Serko too although Wherescape is interesting and I might have a bob each way.

They are probably working through the finer points with their advisors. I would expect both to be full IPO's... so we should receive a prospectus to review.

They look interesting, but has anyone taken the time yet to compare Wherescape vs other Big Data/Data Warehouse software suppliers?

I only have peripheral knowledge of this sort of thing, but I feel this space is quite crowded.
A few examples that google told me about:
http://www.informatica.com/
http://www.tableausoftware.com/
http://www.teradata.com.au/ (not sure about how they fit, as Wherescape advertise support for their database)
http://www.paraccel.com/

My concern here is similar to what Schrodinger expressed - that they will struggle overseas, especially if they don't have some really special, protected and hard-to-copy IP.
I haven't yet (subject to maybe doing some more digging) spotted any compelling points-of-difference. Can anyone familiar with this explain what they have that other firms in this space lack?

On a slightly more light-hearted note, I reckon they need to start by spending a few dollars on a new set of videos (https://www.wherescape.com/video/) with a professional actor and an icon that looks less like Wikipedia!

Also just noticed Wherescape are a sponsor of this Big Analytics roadshow thing: http://www.biganalytics2013.com/

I've worked with a few companies now that use WhereScape RED (https://www.wherescape.com/products/wherescape-red/) and they absolutely swear by it. The software is database-agnostic and adds a lot of functionality that isn't typically available from Microsoft's/Oracle's own tools.

The providers you've linked are more analytics-focused, whereas WhereScape is focused on the tools to help develop and maintain a company's data warehouse.

Interesting, thanks ATN - will be interesting to re-visit their website to learn a bit more, with that in mind.
