Sorry to be negative but this new format lacks clarity. The previous set up was a lot easier to follow. It had big bold blue headings.

Agree bermuda, its a stock chat site, not a perfume discussion group :P
ps: And still as Slooowwww as ever.
I liked the old one! I hate having to come to terms with learning to navigate my way round again. Why do people have to change things, when they seem to be working perfectly well!
Ahh Colin, the way of the world mate.
I think if they reduced the size of those ICONS on the left side of each Threads main title and made the Font bigger and Bold in the thread title it would bring back the perspective.
I am finding it difficult to read the each threads Title.
The other thing which should also be looked at is the Guest Access, I dont like it. I feel there are "some" potential users out there whom can play against you with what information that gets posted.. Call me paranoid, but I have already lost enough to justify paranoia.
I love the new format - very crisp and clear. Don't let the Luddites rule!
I like perfume too...
LOL,
Old dogs eh?
Good on ya Vicky. The place needed a face lift. Navagation hasnt changed but I do now have to put sunglasses on before logging on. The glare off my screen had the neigbours banging on the door asking if there was a fire.
Font might be a tad small for a few of the old dogs too.
Everybody is rightfully entitled to their opinion there Cannibal and that includes you I guess. Question, what in the xx is a Luddites?
Back to business, and questions to the Webmaster.

Still quite a few hops form the Land of Oz, I think Dallas was not that many previously but had higher pings.
Now have you guys got Zend Optimizer switched on, there is something still lagging, the site is becoming faster than previous when it was in hosted in "The Planet", but something is still up, this should be faster comparably from the move.
Back to the design, I guess its something we need to get used to, but all forums should have SKINS so the user can choose his/her theme, be it dark, darker, light, ligher, Bright, Grey, White.
On that note, some Font/Icon balance would be much appreciated and thanks making the move, but get your Zend checked out will ya.
Cheers~!
:confused:Its obvious that some users of this site do not like change. There were a few problems that admin have addressed and as a result we now have a new fresher looking website. A big thumbs up from me.
"Everybody is rightfully entitled to their opinion there Cannibal and that includes you I guess. Question, what in the xx is a Luddites?"
Thank you for giving me permission to have an opinion. ;-)
Luddite - One who opposes technical or technological change.
Thanks Peat
Nothing wrong with change but I find the light blue headings a little hard to read
Don't worry folks - give it a week or two and you'll know the new forum like the back of your hand. I think this is way better than having virus warnings coming up. It should also be more secure.
It is often said "Change is good" A big thanks to the owners and site developer.
PS: I have noticed the site has sped up a lot from last night. :)
Thanks for the feedback drillfix.
There were a couple of speed issues last night straight after the changeover. By default apache had a low number of max connections set which were gobbled up by the masses of js and css that vbulletin requires! Some js is now being served from Yahoo, so that has also helped.
As for code optimisation I will probably install APC instead of Zend. Will wait for a day or two before I get more site performance stats in so I can measure the actual benefit. I think that the problem last night of low apache connections was the main cause of the slowdown you experienced last night.
As for the network, it should be quicker for the majority of us kiwis. Here are my pings and traceroutes (currently from Tauranga, NZ):

I think Ill get used to it but being an old luddite myself I will need retraining. I have always used search function by entering ticker i.e RDR and then viewing by posts. Today I enter tickers and "no results found" is all I get. I even searched "PRC" same result. Can someone help me here.
Hi whirly,
Yes I can see this is a bit of a problem. The new version of the board has changed the way the search works. I'll look into it.

New Look has a fresh feel to it. However, the light blue heads in the threads are too hard to read easily if you are wanting to quickly skim down the list looking for tickers etc. that you are interested in. Searching a forum for ticker codes isn't working yet, but I guess you know that.
Nice fresh look - well done, but have to agree with Novitlate re the headings.
Aslo note (or is it just me) that the last page icons are not all working - seems mainly where there is an attchment icon, anything after it does not work.
I know you can go to the last post by clicking on the little arrow by the thread tittle
Won't keep me logged on in internet explorer - haven't ried in other browsers yet..
And how do we get to 'tody's posts' which was a useful feature of the last format?
We use the same V-Bulletin site at work, and upgraded recently, used a consultant to do it. It wasn't easy for him, still not quite right, especially the location of the signup area.
I still think the overall look is a bit pasty and washed out, a bit hard on the eyes. It's the current trend I know. Why have full colour when it can be faded? so much more sophisticated..
Glad to see the old icons are back on the RHS :D:), I didn't like some of the new character set that was provided, you can't tell some from others...what's the point?
Yes, I'm probably an old f..t, I'm sure I'll get the hang of the new look. Bit like Trademe I suppose.
Just three comments from me:
1. Light blue font is a bit hard to read when wanting to do a quick skim though the latest posts.
2. I'd like to see greater constrast in the colour between read and unread posts.
3. Also like to see the page numbers, e.g. 123...9 (last) a bit bolder. I keep hitting the thread name instead of the last page..
YOTT
As it would appear fashionable to post the trace route to the new site I thought that for once I would be a dedicated follower and also take the opportunity to highlight the dangers of drinking whilst routing:

Where's that from PT?
I am currently hiding in Singapore :D
Gotta start with a tiger beer before routing in Singapore surely?!
Where has the quick search fucntion gone?
I can't seem to find Today's Posts...is it in the new format or not?
Feels crowded.
IMO the thread listing bit it really doesn't need 'Started by Shrewd Crude, 02-01-2010 08:27 PM' just having the creators user name in that space would be more than enough.
And in the main index the
"Threads: 1,783
Posts: 100,861"
text is disproportionately large relative to its importance.
I'm sure that I can get used to the changes - at least I can log in without warnings now... :)
I still can't figure out how to access today's posts. Looks like that option might be a thing of the past.
Vicky, your a champion, thanks for taking the time to address the "wide" communities needs.
A little extra feedback: Fonts, Its good the fonts are now bigger though need to get away from the Tahoma or which ever one you have. Maybe a Bold Arial or something, but the current ones are a bit too wide"ish~!
For those who say get over it, bare in mind, some of us here contribute as much as we can to help others and this site. We are no complainers for the sake of it. There are folks here that also need to feel settled after being here for years and even more years than what I have been here.
I look forward to the gradual work in progress and no doubt the site will be fine tuned greatly for performance and Eye Candy.
Again, to have theme's for users to choose would be a bonus.
Good work to the Dev people and Vicky along with the mods.
Cheers :)
Hi,
Is there any way to get the layout 'crisper'? It is quite difficult to differentiate the sections for those of us with less than optimal eyesight.
The colours are all quite similar now - probably most of you don't notice, but it is all 'wishy washy' for me now.
Thanks,
Alan.
I unfortunately have to agree with most of the negative comments. I am finding it very hard to concentrate when reading some threads. Its almost like all the colours are to similar and there is too much going on.
Also agree with negative comments. Before I could use my old Navigator browser to speed up things but that doesn't work with new format so forced to use MSExplorer and it is SLOW. Why change what was working???????? May vote with my feet and take this site off my bookmarks, aussie forum is still the old format.:confused:
Thanks, but I'm not talking about new posts. The previous format used to provide for' today's posts' (under quick links, I think) New posts shows new posts since last visist, whereas today's posts used to display all posts for that day even if they had been read.
Sorry...thumbs down from me.
Everything seems really wishy washy, bland and indistinctive.
New smilies are rubbish!
To Many similar tones makes it very hard to select what you want very bland & indistincive.
also I like to look for the posts that I haven't read in a thread. The current differentiation in colour, does make this easy.
By default the database only allowed search terms of 4 chars or more! I've just changed this to 3 chars so it should work for stock symbols. This should start working tomorrow, as I will have to rebuild the search index in the wee hours so as not to kill the server...
Lovely, thank you.
W.
Hey Vicky,
Loving the new layout as a whole.. These things always take some time to get used to.. The Web 2.0 color scheme is all good, but the contrasts between the colors could be a bit greater I think as it starts to blur a bit (darker headings maybe, as bull.. suggests?)
One other thing.. I personally keep quite a few tabs open so its nice to know which one is sharetrader; that appears to be gone now, with the page title just the name of the sub-forum. Can be hard to work out at a glance; maybe it could just have sharetrader at the end (i.e ASX - Sharetrader)?
aAARGH... i cant work it. Seems to me search only works on posts since the new format. I also cant show "users posts" or threads started by me or anyone else.
correct... as above:
"This should start working tomorrow, as I will have to rebuild the search index in the wee hours so as not to kill the server... "
doh! I also cannot retain information for more than 4 posts! As you were...
LMAO!! Just going to bed as I read that - I cracked up. So dry. I love it!
Maybe it's just me, but I quite like this new forum. Easy to navigate and easy to find new posts etc. No trouble. Maybe it's just because I'm younger... *Coughs* Errrm ok I'm off to bed now :D
PS: Gota admit the smileys are somewhat less distinct as everyone says.
Emoticons? Smileys? Icons? Mood Defining Symbols?
Anyway whatever these things [:p;):D:o:):(:mad::rolleyes::cool::eek:] are called it would be better if they were large enough to be able to distinguish your ;) from your :D or your :o from your :) without resorting to some sort of magnifying enhancement.
regards
Paper Tiger :p
The search index has been rebuilt so you should be able to search by stock symbol - give it a whirl, whirly :)
Also, I agree that these smilies suck.
I think someone fixed the smilies ;) :D :) :p (Just thought I'd try em out)
PS that last smiley should be a bracket. Hot keys might need to be changed ya? Or do we now use [ & ] as brackets?
I am getting pages of smilie faces s[amming my ST screen. Is this normal or just my computer?
No, It's happening for me too, every time you type a fullstop .. .. .. . .
You get a cool smiley
Can you turn smileys off?
Yea! Way to go Vicky. Smileys are looking good now. :D
Much better. :D
Thanks Vicky these smilies are much better.
also it looks like the contrast has been cranked up. Could it just my imagination or the drugs Im taking? :scared:
Just some things I've noticed while the changeover has been happening: the link to these pages is by search at the moment, because the what's new? icon has the same command as the last posts icon.
When starting a post, which icon/button do you choose? most of them are in fact quick reply, you have to also choose "advanced" to get a standard followon posting started.
If you insert a quote in the post, it now always seems to have a whole lot of air added above it, which makes scanning the posts a bit harder, and they're not as readable.
Trusting these are all quick fixes.. Like the new smilies.
Still slow, colors crap, as soneone said earlier why change. ST changed to common format few yrs back and other sites still retain that ie aussie forum, so they have changed this time on their own, but why? And everyone's happy because they've got smilies!!!
George is right....these muddy pastel colours ...pink/beige/grey/lavender, or whatever you call them, do not make the pages easier to read. There are plenty of other crisp, clear, legible, reader friendly colours.
How do I get the page with all the smilies on it?
here is a link to open the page with the smilies directly
http://www.sharetrader.co.nz/misc.ph...=vB_Editor_001
but the way to get that is through the advanced reply option and then the smilies are on the right and if you want even more of them then click on the [more] link below that.
it seems that forums are now routinely offereing quick reply as the default reply option with the ability to then move to an advanced option that offers links icons smilies embedding etc
I see what you mean peat
Just tried it myself:confused:
Thanks peat. You are a champ.
I would be out of a job if I had studied computers. :D
Previously when I read a post the blue highlight would disappear. Now it doesnt. Please correct. Thanks.
ROTFLMAO! Some people I know would actually do that. :D
Has anyone else noticed that sometimes you have a perfect perfect edit screen but by the time you post post it, some words are doubled up: Something to do with RHS justification. If you edit your original to change the word to a shorter one, it's then all OK. Always the top line?
This didn't happen with the old format....
Hi Yall .
Is Share Trader on a go slow this morning or is it just my end?
It seems to always be a random thing Strat.
If and when EVERYBODY logs in or loads up Sharetrader the next time, look at the bottom of your browsers status bard.
I ALWAYS seem to get this message displaying: Waiting for tams.tarawera.co.nz
Whats up with that? I tell ya what, its a piss off half the time, perhaps firewalls or badly coded Banners which you get revenue from slowing your site down.
Its gotta be something.
Who is optimising the database, do you check the database or run a Cron Job on it to check tables, errors and Optimise the ST DB ??
Lets put the food on the table and get this sorted out, crikey its 12AM in the evening and the site should not be running like how it does.
Thats my rant for the night anyway.
goodnight!
Drillfix - Have now put the ads in an iframe so should not be holding you up anymore. Seem better for you?
I cannot get "Reply with quote" working when I click on it, it displays far right outside the normal view frame (terminology?). Do I need to change some settings??
Can the daylight saving be fixed now please? I'm an hour ahead all the time. GMT+12 is the correct setting? Mine says GMT+13.
The threads in my ST have gone all wonky and out of place. Is this my computer or the ST site?
Getting super pissed with new site everytime my post gets to long it stops me writing an keeps throwing my cursor up the page arrrrrrrrrggggg
Yes seems to load fine now (I am using FireFox Poratable)
But now, as posted by others, the ASX thread along with any other Thread on the forum are formatting wrong, there seems to be huge spaces between posts and its like the overall template is not applied, as its like the main TABLE is broken, displaying threads to run loose on their on. (un-contained).
ps: or should I say, the Table inside the Table is broken
This software is very buggy, now you can't edit a post without it impying you're trying to delete it, previous parts of screens not being wiped off the front, funny characters appearing over the top of our names, extra spaces on top of all quotes, etc etc.
V-Bulletin have thousands of sites using this software, they'd better be fixing it. It shouldn't matter what type of browser you use, I'm using Explorer, not Firefox. Programmers like Firefox, and make sure it works with that, but we need it to work for all of us.
I've noted that the GMT stuff hasn't been fixed, is anyone reading this thread anyway???
My thread on ST are still all wonky and out of place. Any suggestions to fix this? I use Google Chrome.
