These events are organised from the NZSA South Island for its (paying) members, but non members are normally welcome. If you want to make sure you learn about these talks at your earliest convenience, than I recommend to support the good work of the NZSA for all shareholders and join them: http://www.nzshareholders.co.nz/members.cfm; South Island Members are informed about these talks through a monthly newsletter.

If you join you could even volunteer to make these social media releases and do a much better job than I do.

You could even join the committee and organise them - this would give you still more notice ; Send me a PM if you are interested ...

Default Christchurch - November 19th: A presentation by Sam Stubbs (proprietor of Simplicity)

An Evening with Sam Stubbs, Founding Director of Simplicity Fund Manager organised by NZSA South Island Branch.

    From their members info:

Date: Tuesday the 19th November 2019
    Time: 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Venue: The Papanui Club, Sawyers Arms Road, Christchurch
Facilities: Ample parking. The Bistro is open until 8.30 pm

Note the earlier time of 5 p.m. This is so we can fit in with Sam's busy schedule, and enable him to make his departing flight from Christchurch.

Sam Stubbs founded Simplicity- a not for profit fund manager, offering Kiwi Saver and other investments funds. Sam has a big vision and believes that New Zealand is poised to be “the Singapore” of the Pacific. He also has a unique perspective on Public Private Partnerships.

“When investing, the cockroach theory says, there is rarely just one under the
fridge”, says Sam Stubbs. He is not afraid to call out questionable governance and recently wrote a “please explain” letter to Sir John Key, the Chairperson of the Board of the ANZ Bank (NZ) asking for transparency around a recent land transaction by his ex-CEO.

In early October Sam announced that Simplicity will be entering the mortgage market by offering first home loans to its members at a rate well below the bank.

Expect this presentation to be both thought provoking and informative.

    All welcome.

Default Christchurch 18. Feb 2020: Presentation - NZ Superfund decision making

Mike Frith (Chief Economist) and Alice Mew from the NZ Superannuation Fund will be presenting to the Branch on Tuesday 18th February at 7pm at the Papanui Club.

Date: Tuesday the 18th February 2020
    Time: 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Venue: The Papanui Club, 310 Sawyers Arms Road, Christchurch

The NZ Superannuation Fund is a sovereign wealth fund with about $46 billion, (46 thousand million NZ dollars), invested. The purpose of the Fund is to partially pre-fund the future cost of NZ Superannuation, which is expected to increase as a result of NZ’s ageing population.

The Superannuation Fund was created by the NZ Superannuation and Retirement Act 2001 under the fifth Labour Government, and is colloquially known as the "Cullen Fund".

It will be interesting to hear about the Fund’s investment decision making. If you have any question for Mike Frith or Alice Mew, or issues that you would like addressed send me a PM and I will forward to the organiser
