Companies need to take me care with what they say …but then NZME are in media so should expect some slackness

Hmm, I was sure I read 5% in Q4 yesterday, must have been the brain doing an autocorrect.

Interesting how the original wrong guidance was price sensitive, but fixing the mistake isn't

Media Insider: NZME proposes closing 14 community newspapers, with the loss of about 30 jobs

Things must be tough in the Newspaper game

How much is the current times ? How much is the gophers in the outer hinterlands not following the leads to
connect the dots & keep the ads flowing in ?

Many of the still remaining publications appear to be a very poor shadow of their once former selves.

Everyone knows the story - deliver up a satisfying product to capture & keep your readership.
Fail to do so and things start sliding down the slippery slope.

There are the numerous stories of cancelled subscriptions

That wont be happening for no reason either

So here we have it - a further 14 Regional papers potentially being sent down the Bog by NZME

Probably more than that gone over the past year, if the quiet closure such as the part owned Wairoa Star is included, closed in May 2024 before the remaining bones and carcase of a proud Century old Publication were unceremoniously offloaded onto local Iwi interests

If NZME can't make a go of these publications, then demerge them & sell them off back to interests in the communities they service - problem solved. Many of these communities won't miss not having a NZME presence amongst them - once their loved papers are cut free and back in their own local hands

Look at that -- The competition - "We give you two Stuffs instead of one" on the quiet

New Zealand: Stuff ‘consciously uncouples’ into two separate digital and print businesses

But will One Stuff (the Ink & paper generating job) be sent stuffing off like NZME did ?
