Default Another Sad Day For New Zealand

Don Brash was to speak at Massey University. Vice Chancellor Jan Thomas has closed the event down which was to be run by the Students Politics Club. She is worried about student, staff and public safety.

I totally agree that we dont want another Kent State event. But allowing a threat by an unknown vocal minority should not hinder students ability to hear potentially alternative views.

We had Goff and his cohorts banning council premises from being rented out to that canadian pair (havent followed that too closely) and now this.

Seems to me that free speech is fine as long as it is in line with a certain groups thinking.

Yeah, a bad mark for free speech.

VC Jan Thomas now makes it all about safety. Her original statement was nearly all about hate speech, Maori wards and Maori staff hurt feelings.

Backtracked. She must have realised that she would be vilified.

Yeah - as if that is ever going to run. Don Brash the inciter of riots and mayhem. At best he can rustle up some placard waving rent-a-mob.

Sems to me we have in Jan Thomas an example of a public servant being promoted to her highest level of incompetence.

Where is Julie Ann Genter? This is what happens in hate speech where you want to see the demise of old stale pale males. You get white females popping up.

Where is the boss / board of Massey University - silence can only be interpreted as endorsing your subordinates position.

Where is the Minister of Tertiary Education. Your silence can only be interpreted as supporting public money being spent on people like this.

Where is the Prime Minster "its an over reaction" - well what are you doing about this undermining of one of the foundation principles of a democratic country. Not very much by all accounts.

It is amazing how much power the Maori have quite behind the scene. No body wants to upset them. Reverse racism.

Still no apology from Massey to Brash. Appaling. Shoudl have theri public funding removed. Simply not fit to call themselves a university. If students cant hear a range of views at a university then that is pretty much the end of free thought. Just trot along to the sausage factory and come out with the sanitised "approved" messages the university allows to be delivered

No doubt most saw the classic piece of Theatre, at the recent Protest at Parliament.

'Judge' Rick Southey sat aloft in his throne and found the govt guilty of crimes against humanity.

Todays NZ Herald reports he has been stood down from his job at a health authority.

    Political interference?

    What's happened to tolerance?

    Being kind?

    Freedom of speech?

Will he get a fair 'trial'?

Judge not lest ye be judged?
