Insofar as “travellers” are from anywhere...I think the visitors are from Leicestershire, East Midlands.

I have visited cousins in Liverpool. It has a real mixture of people. It used to be thriving port with lots of rust belt industries. Many people of Irish and Welsh ancestry with long established Chinese and black communites. There’s Lots of quick wit if you can penetrate the accent!

Unruly tourists threaten to sue Auckland mayor Phil Goff for comments comparing them to pigs, calling them 'a***holes'.
The latest development comes after the family crashed the vehicle they were using - a dark murky green/grey Honda Odyssey - about midday on Thursday. It hit a curb on busy Massey Rd.
The family later told media that they became distracted when members of the public started yelling out to them - calling them "gypsy scum" - resulting in the driver getting distracted and scared before he crashed.
The car was left abandoned at the spot, in Māngere, and has since been vandalised and stripped of various features including its number plate.

Some 'unruly' groups in the UK cause just as much trouble as our recent visitors. I doubt they get the very amusing global media attention that our visitors got. Maybe other countries will follow NZ's lead.

Members of the British family who were thrown out of New Zealand after causing havoc around the North Island started more trouble upon their arrival home at Heathrow Airport.

If you were referring to me I do have a life. I am very proud of the New Zealanders who have spoken out and said unruly behaviour is not okay. I identify with the New Zealand businesses which have been ripped off. As far as child abuse the greatest abusers are the parents and family who are exposing the children to their own inappropriate behaviour.

It is never possible to know who JT is referring to. He just posts with no snip or reference. I assume he thinks other posters are mind-readers.

    Default Righteous indignation or racism

How much of the mass indignation directed towards the “unruly tourists” was tinged with racism?

Facebook bans unwanted description of ethnicity...https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/a...ectid=12200359

I never thought of gypsy as a derogatory word. For me the word gypsy describes someone who travels around with their home and possessions e.g gypsy lifestyle.
I agree that it was derogatory when used on Facebook because it was used in the sense of being thieves, vagabonds, scum.
However I did some research because I did not see it as racist and for the Romani people the word gypsy is like using derogatory words like nigger, chink, pom.

When not used by the ethnicity concerned, The N word is the most derogatory and has the greatest taboo against its use, followed by the C word.

These days Pom is the mildest term of those and is similar to Ocker, they can both be more derogatory than Brit and Aussie.

Help me out. I can't recall the joke, and I could do with a laugh.

Some people would say they're now getting the "hospitality" they deserve.
