    I think even consumer price inflation hasn't. Post WW2 we had about the same rate or lower. To go back centuries, we would need to go refer to The Mother Country. Accuracy of statistics and what is included in the basket of items would vary - and even varies in modern times of course. And the CPI is limited when even in recent times the price of residential RE - housing and residential land has rocketed. As "an asset" I think this has a limited impact on CPI.

    They need to review how the CPI is calculated. Get rid of vegetables, they just rarely go up from year to year except for seasonal shortages(poor market gardeners, never get a break). Bring plumbers charges, electricians charges, accountants fees, legal fees, roof installers, mechanics, house prices, rates, insurance etc. We will find real inflation is north of 10%, if not more. Interest rates should be north of 10% as well.
