whatever started it, it seems to be picking up pace. NZ needs to wake up and stop flights coming in (Just in case). Being an Island in the middle of nowhere gives us a chance to escspe it should it turn out to be really bad. But no doubt we will let it in, due to inaction.

you are not allowed to bring a carrot in, but if you are chinese, welcome to the country, sir.
Same as the measles infected Islanders - welcome to NZ.

Same as the MER infected camel riders - welcome to NZ.

Then there’s the Ebola infected Africans.

    Anyone else, Ratkin?

Oh, there’s the flu carrying British and Aussies who infect and kill hundreds in NZ every year.

Mister Reddell reminds us that there's nothing new under the sun. The links in the Treasury papers are worth following, and can take you to all sorts of interesting places.

"A case report that showed the illness could spread before symptoms occurred turned out to be incorrect, although a top U.S. official has said he still believes it can spread without symptoms, based on discussions with Chinese experts."

And does the reported Chinese mortality rate match the rate reported for the rest of the world?

The cruise ship will be great for a scientific study, 132 cases now, small sample but will be interesting to see how many of hem die especially as they will probably have top notch treatment.

If the stereotypical profile of cruise-liner passengers is correct, it might give us a worst case estimate.. Generally older people, and contained in a floating Petri-dish.
