And which country aggressively invaded other countries on false pretext, colonised them and slaughtered millions of innocent civilians in the past?

Russia! In the recent past and the present...Afghanistan, Chechnya, Syria and now Ukraine for starters...let alone all the past wars of conquest and occupation and subjugation...

Britain? The Netherlands? France? Belgium? Germany? Spain? Portugal? Japan? China? Russia? US? Poland (used to invade Ukraine)? Lithuania (used to invade the Ukraine)? Ukraine (used to invade Poland)? Austria (Habsberger Empire)? Turkey (incl Ottoman Empire)? Italy? Greece? Mongolia (Dshingis Khan)? ... and so many other countries ...

Shh - this is tough, there are so many countries which invaded and colonized other countries under false pretence and slaughtered lots of innocent civilians (O.K., not always but often millions). Actually - this is what people used to do.

Which one of these countries are you referring to, and why?

The idea though, was that humanity got a bit more civilised over time and agreed on peaceful conflict resolution. It just appears that Russia, China and unfortunately in a lesser way as well the US (war crimes tribunal and international court) only care about international law if it is in their favor.

One country - Japan stands out, does it not?

And the US stands out as the most blatant violator of international laws there ever was. WOMD.

Not really. Pretty sure that Britain (and many other countries) killed and enslaved over the centuries many more people than Japan did ... and they certainly have been ways more hypocritic about their doing than Japan was.

Well, US is as bad and hypocritic as anybody else. They did break plenty of international laws, they happily destroyed a number of democracies and replaced them with brutal dictatorships (e.g. Chile, Indonesia) to please the sick world view of a bunch of Republicans and they allowed that way the brutal killing of hundreds of thousands (possible millions if we add them all up) of peasants. Disgusting bunch the Americans (as a people, of course are there as many nice people individually under them as everywhere else), we agree on that, however - not sure what gauge you use to call them the "most blatant violator". I would think that there are a lot more promising contentants for this title unless you wear quite significant blinkers.
