Its clear that NZ needs to spend billions on defence equipment even though it doesnt have the personal.
Its going to take many years for NZ to have anything like the air lift options it needs to contribute to the alliances it doesnt want to be part of.
basically NZ defence force is not fit for any purpose except marshal law?
Its a shambles..
This is Finland ...

NZ could hire this guy and he might create an emergency training program for the new fighter pilot program.

Rocket labs could put some military tech into space for the new NZ space force....
Ok NZ space force might not be ready yet but you can get a look at how the US does it at Red Flag.

Vote Waltzing for PM or at the minimum Defence Minister, at least that's sorted!
The problem I have with Henare is that he seems to be acting merely as a placeholder in the Labour caucus - compared with Ron Mark who initiated and sustained billions in defence spending on new aircraft and frigate upgrades etc.
As a nation we should be furious that Defence spending wasn't increased in the last budget round, let alone upcoming announcements given the rapid deterioration in our strategic environment over the last decade or so.
In fact, given the long lead times with procurement we should be absolutely ashamed that we have NOT maintained FULL interoperability with our key ally Australia and our key partner the US - let alone not rejoined ANZUS and allowed ships with nuclear propulsion back into NZ ports. I remember a picture of the USS Enterprise aircraft carrier in Wellington harbour on my bunkroom wall in the late 60's / early 70's so it can be and should be done to signify both WHAT we stand for and WHO we stand with...
By the way - I'm quite sure Rocket Lab has slipped in some Defence related satellite launches, particularly in terms of surveillance satellites, together with technology concept testing payloads as noted by Rocket Lab itself And good on them!
There will be many more Defence related launches occuring in the US soon enough for US government and specifically defence contractor targetted purposes also - and that's what SHOULD BE HAPPENING and bugger the Greens!

To be fair ... Finland does have a longer boundary to the big aggressor Russia than we have ... but yes, our defence investment (and what we make out of it) is pathetic at best. I just hope we don't pay at some stage for this oversight with our freedom.

More moralizing from a naive NZ Labour government holding on to a "fiercely independent foreign policy" and of course nuclear free, naturally...As if our independent foreign policy is going to save us from the possible impending loss of our freedom...

But Where Does The Money Go?
So while everyone gets excited about Finland, the World Bank has some dodgy outdated figures about defence expenditure by country. Fascinating stuff!

DAVX: Time for the US to send f16's and anything else the UKE's need.
2014 was an obvious moment and the germans blew it. Some eastern european nations understood and move to get rid of Russian Gas.
They understood what was at stake.
Its bigger than the cold war as it gone hot and those who say there is not a new cold war like NZ leaders are deluding themselves and have their little kiwi heads in the bushes.
They obviously were not reading Russian new papers in 2010 to see the direction then New regime was taking the giant frozen land or watching nightly news in moscow.
The Uke's are the new greeks and the warriors of democracy.
Obviously on return one will visit the site of the heavenly 100 in Kiev lay a wreath and donate.
