thanks wiz - are you saying the "dividends" value in the final table of results per post #418 is not all of the dividends for the year? Instead you added the dividend values during the year to the returns of the underlying shares? Because I can't see how ~$1,000+ of FMG dividends plus 4 others equals $374. This is the part I was not getting given I thought you did a final fix up of ALL dividends at the end of the year - whereas maybe the fix up was for dividends declared but not yet paid.....is that right?

    YES for 1.
YES for 2 being a sum total of dividends as a sun check.
NO for 2. as these are the actual totals earned.

use the formula for the calculation [(total sum of final price + dividends + cash) - initial price] / initial price 100% (multiply by $10,000 if you need to see that % in dollars)

    I did as I said.
I have gathered ALL the dividends. Listed in post #436.
I have added ALL of the dividends to the final figure / ticker value as at 30th dec 2022 last day of trading
THEN I calculated the Profit as I have clearly explained in post # 438 with WDS

With respect to post #435, #436

FMG according to the ASX site information paid 2 dividends 86c and 121c = 207c
    FMG day 1 = $19.32
    FMG last day $20.51

    (($20.51 + $2.07) - $19.32) / 19.32 * 100% = 16.8737%

NOW you do the calculations and let me know where I have gone wrong.

ALL the dividends for 2022 as listed by ASX are displayed in post #436

Thanks for the clarification - Wiz

    1. From this the Dividends have all come into the % gain per each ticker on your calculations

    2. The dividends column is more of a check digit column of all the accumulated cps of the dividends
across the 5 tickers during the year, therefore bears no resemblance to the actual total dividends earned ?

    3. In Ferg's picks, rough back of the envelope dividend totals fully extended come out at approx
$2700 for the year, give or take a bit - and all have been taken into your line by line % gains or loss.

    Am I correct ?

    Cheers

I have now given two specific examples of : ticker FMG : Ticker WDS :
I have detailed exactly what the program does.
I cannot do any more than that.

    Look in post #442
you will see that the "dividends" column Div is a sum eg total of ALL the actual dividends paid out for ALL 5 tickers

I suggest you take your shares and work out for each ticker the resultant profit then average them as i have done

[(final price plus cash plus dividend) - initial price] / initial price * 100% for each ticker then average them

I can see where the confusion arose from. "374.76" is actually cents; we had (incorrectly) assumed it was $374 and 76c. The "374.76" represents the sum of dividends received on a single share from the 5 stock picks, expressed in cents. It does not represent the sum of all dividends received on the portfolio of $50,000, which is what I was orginally thinking.

    Thanks for clarifying.

    All good.
